Abstract:To solve the construction ventilation problem of super long (length greater than 10000 m) tunnel passing through discrete lenticular gas bag tunnel under complex working conditions in carbonaceous shale stratum, relying on the construction of Banzhulin tunnel of the new Xuyong-Bijie Railway (Sichuan-Yunnan). Using the finite element analysis software, the flow field distribution of the tunnel return air flow in the case of simultaneous excavation of multiple working faces is simulated, and the formation position and influence range of the vortex area which is easy to form gas accumulation are analyzed. On this basis, the technical team developed the PLC uninterruptible self starting ventilation power supply control program. By comparing the changes in the time required for ventilation power supply failure before and after the adoption of this technology, and the comparison of the gas concentration in the return air flow within a relatively short time of the failure, it is proved that this technology reduces the fault response time to 15.74% of the original time, and can well avoid gas accumulation within the failure time, It provides some reference for similar engineering construction.

Abstract:Abstract In view of the occurrence conditions of coal seam groups in most mining areas in China, the protective layer mining mode is mainly adopted to carry out gas treatment in regional coal seam. In this paper, based on the pressure relief mining of the protective layer, the principle, type and geological conditions of the co-mining mode of the protective layer coal and gas under the condition of coal seam group are analyzed. In Taoyuan Coal Mine, there are some problems such as frequent handling, low efficiency, difficult to control the drilling track, poor drainage effect, etc. The directional long drilling hole is used instead of bottom drainage roadway to reduce the moving time of drilling rig. According to the coal seam characteristics of Taoyuan Coal Mine, the directional drilling rig and other equipment suitable for Taoyuan Coal Mine are selected, and the directional long drilling technology is studied, A total of 13 directional long boreholes have been constructed in the inner section of II 8223 machine roadway, with a total length of 2336m, a lower screen pipe of 2249m, a cumulative coal slag discharge of 480.17t, and an equivalent diameter of 442mm. By January 14, 2020, 78577m3 has been pumped by directional long boreholes, with an average pumping concentration of 15% ~ 100%, and an average net pumping volume of 0.05m3/min ~ 0.40m3/min. It saves the construction of floor drainage roadway, reduces the amount of drilling work for gas control, saves 6 million yuan of gas control investment in the inner section of II 8223 machine roadway, shortens the time for reaching the standard of drainage for 2 ~ 3 months, effectively alleviates the tension of mine production replacement, and realizes safe, economic and efficient mining.

Abstract:This paper examines the engineering background of the main shaft of Ruihai Mining Group Company in Laizhou City, with a focus on the loose permeable stratum located in the frozen section of the shaft. Field measurements and data collection, including brine temperature and surface subsidence values, were conducted using temperature and hydrological boreholes. The distribution of the frozen wall temperature field was then numerically simulated using finite element analysis, and the results were compared and analyzed with field data. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to qualitatively describe the microstructure of the soft rock in the frozen section under different freezing schemes. Based on the formation of the frozen wall, a new construction scheme for freezing and excavating the internal and external circles of the vertical shaft in the loose permeable stratum is proposed. This involves the implementation of "inner and outer double-circles of freezing holes" and a comparison of the freezing effect of the temperature field before and after the improvement. The results indicate that the new freezing scheme can accelerate the freezing rate of the surrounding rock of the shaft, and reduce the time required for closure by more than 10 days. After applying the improved scheme for 60 days, the temperature is lowered by 4–5 °C compared to the original scheme, and the thickness of the frozen wall is approximately 4.8 m, significantly thicker than before. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of adding an inner circle of freezing holes in achieving the lowest temperature which contributes to subsequent shaft excavation. The new scheme holds significant implications for the safe construction of shaft excavation in complex hydrogeological areas.

Abstract:In order to make full use of the less humanized and intelligent features of the BMC counterbore drilling rig, and effectively improve the construction efficiency of the return wind river and the transmission rate of the steady straight guideway in coal mines, taking the Heng Sheng coal mine with different regional characteristics as an example, the field application of the BMC back hole drilling rig return wind riser was carried out at the designated location in the mine area, realizing the construction of the preset trajectory of the less personified return wind river and laying the foundation for the subsequent tunnel ventilation. At the same time, in response to the many problems in the drilling process, the solution of drilling a stable and straight pilot hole in the pre-process of the BMC counter shaft drilling rig was proposed, which effectively improved the construction efficiency of the return wind vertical shaft, reduced the construction danger of the construction personnel, and ensured the safe and orderly production of the mine.

Abstract:The Gaoligong Mountain Tunnel of Dali-Ruili Railway is located between the Nujiang River and the Longling County Town in the southeastern section of the Hengduan Mountains, China. In geological history, this area was affected by multiple tectonic movements, and the faulted structures are extremely developed. During the drilling inspection hole of No.2 vertical shaft, boring tool stuck and the hole collapse once happened. Its depth was 643.12 m, the outcropped strata were all granite or weathered granite (fracture zones). 7 fracture zones with thickness > 10 m were uncovered, the maximum thickness of which was 112.95 m; and 7 water bearing strata were uncovered, of which the buried depth of groundwater table was all less than 34m, the permeability coefficients(k) were 0.005~0.158 m/d. It was estimated that the water inflow of ④ ~ ⑦ aquifers of the main shaft and the auxiliary shaft of No. 2 shaft were all greater than 120 m3/d (5 m3/h), that normal water inflow of main shaft and auxiliary shaft of No.2 vertical shaft would be 125.92 m3/h and 90.08 m3/h respectively. In order to avoid water inrush and wall caving accidents during the construction of the two shafts, it was decided to adopt the surface pre-grouting method in the construction of the shafts to block off and reinforce the ④ aquifer and the strata under the aquifer. The "S" shaped directional drilling technology was used; the two sequences, segmented downward, multiple-times grouting mode was adopted; clay-cement slurry was selected as the grouting material. After grouting, pump yield water tests were carried out in two grouting holes of main shaft and auxiliary shaft. The remaining water inflow in grouting sections of two shafts was 5.02 m3/h and 5.70 m3/h respectively, and the rates of water blocking were all over 93%. The grouting effect was remarkable. The successful implementation of the surface pre-grouting project of No.2 vertical shaft in Gaoligong Mountain Tunnel of Dali-Ruili Railway has important guiding significance for the design and construction of tunnel and mine shafts in broken water-rich granite stratum.

Abstract:Over 100 mine shaft failures have occurred in coal mines of the Huang-Huai region of China over the last three decades. While traditional treatment measures are time-consuming and typically require re-application, the approach of maintaining the water level during mining is a promising technique, first employed in 2011 in the Jisan coal mine by injecting groundwater into the aquifer. In this study, this approach has been improved upon and applied to the Dongtan coal mine. The water level in the middle and lower lithological groups was maintained by replenishing water from the upper group. The water replenishment operation was implemented on November 22, 2012; monitoring indicated relief of compressive strain in the shaft wall, suggesting the efficacy of this treatment method. The number of coal mine shafts, either built or under construction, has reached several hundred in the Huang-Huai region, most of which have an alluvium structure similar to the Jisan and Dongtan coal mines. Therefore, the results of this study have the potential for common use in engineering methods to avoid potential shaft damage or failure, as well as the long-term treatment of already fractured shafts.

Abstract:The instability control of deep mining roadway is currently dominated by ejection and grouting, as well as floor support, which contradicts the economic and excavation efficiency of production. Taking the failure site of Xin'an Coal Mine in China as an example, this paper systematically analyzes the failure characteristics of supporting components, crack propagation, and surrounding rock deformation in situ, and the impact of failure on the rights and interests of staff, enterprise benefits, and low-carbon environmental protection. Then, a three-way continuous anchorage theory and the derived control technology are proposed based on the exploration of the instability mechanism. Besides, the UDEC Trigon model is adopted to reproduce the instability process and demonstrate the effect of the proposed control technology. According to the subsequent industrial test, the plastic deformation developing from shallow to deep parts leads to the bending, subsiding, swelling, and deformation of rock mass within 5.5 m of the roof, and the surrounding rock failure mainly features the shear failure in the middle of the tail of the supporting components and anchorage relaxation. Meanwhile, it wrecks huge havoc on the rights and interests of staff, enterprise benefits, and emission. Following the smooth application of the new technology to roadway excavation, the roof subsidence and two side displacements are reduced by 91.18% and 58.5%, respectively, compared with the original scheme, the rock mass fractures within 1.71 ~ 3.92 m of the roof is effectively sealed, the evolution depth of bed separation is down by 78.6%, and the excavation efficiency rises by 50% while ensuring the supporting cost. In addition, the defects of the new technology in engineering application are also discussed. Accordingly, the R&D and application of this new technology provide a positive reference for the efficiency control of deep mining roadway.

Abstract:When a tunnel boring machine (TBM) excavates in poor geological conditions like fracture zones, soft rock with high ground stress, hard rock with high ground stress, and water inrush ground, severe problems such as surrounding rock collapse, convergence, rock burst and water and mud outburst are usually encountered. These problems existed in the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel project in Xinjiang, China. Several methods and techniques were adopted to reduce construction risks and improve construction efficiency. The seismic wave reflection long-distance geological forecasting method was employed to forecast and predict these adverse geological conditions. The pre-reinforcement construction method was employed on the surrounding broken rocks in front of the tunnel face to lower the risks of tunnel collapse and machine jamming. A combined steel arch was applied to prevent tunnel arch collapse. An artificial cap method was applied to prevent the jamming caused by high-ground stress soft rock. Measures such as spraying water on the tunnel face and drilling stress holes were employed to prevent rock bursts caused by high-ground stress in hard rock. Implementing the advanced pipe shed method during water influx, sudden mud, and other working conditions reduced the risk of groundwater damage to equipment and lowered risks to personnel safety. The successful application of these techniques can provide a reference for TBM tunnel construction in similar ground conditions.
Research status and future trends on surface pre-grouting technology in reforming wall rock of vertical shafts in coal mines in China

Abstract:In the mine construction, the surface pre-grouting technology is an important method to prevent water blast in excavation process of vertical shaft when the shaft must pass through the thick, water-rich and high water-pressure bedrock aquifer. It has been nearly 60 years since the technology was used to reform wall rock of vertical shaft in coal mine in China for the first time, and the existing technology can basically meet the needs of constructing 1000m deep vertical shaft. Firstly, the article introduces that in view of Magg's spherical seepage theory and Karol's spherical seepage theory, Chinese scholars found that the diffusion of grout from borehole into the surrounding strata in horizontal direction is irregular through a lot of research and engineering practice of using the surface pre-grouting technology to reform wall rock of vertical shafts, and put forward the selecting principles of grout's effective diffusion radius in one grouting engineering; Secondly, according to the shape of the grouting boreholes, surface pre-grouting technology of vertical shaft is divided into two stages: vertical borehole stage and S-type borehole stage. Thirdly, the development status of grouting materials and grouting equipment for the technology is introduced. Fourthly, grouting mode, stage height and pressure of the technology are introduced. Finally, it points out that with the increasing depth of coal mining in China, the technology of reforming wall rock of 1000~2000m deep vertical shafts will face many problems, such as grouting theory, grouting equipment, grouting finishing standard, testing and evaluation of grouting effect, and so on. And it put forward a preliminary approach to solving these problems. This paper points out future research directions of the surface pre-grouting technology in China.

Abstract:Abstract The coal of group A in Zhangji Coal Mine is seriously threatened by limestone water damage. we use the directional drilling equipment to construct along the strata long drilling and explore the limestone aquifer of the working face bottom plate. According to the characteristics of the formation, the directional drilling casing hole section, rotary drilling hole section, directional bevel hole section, and directional stability The construction methods and key technology of the inclined hole section are analyzed and researched, and the 1414A working face is selected for directional exploration drilling for practical verification. The results show that the directional long drilling technology realizes the full coverage exploration of the working face bottom plate. The target layer has a high drilling encounter rate. The one-time exploration distance is long, which effectively solves the safety risk caused by the bottom plate limestone water damage to the working face safety production. Realizing the promotion of directional drilling equipment in the field of water prevention and control in Huainan Coalfield.
Precise application of grouting technology in underground coal mining: water inrush risk of floor elimination

Abstract:Many coal mines in China suffer from the Ordovician limestone (OL) and Carboniferous limestone (CL) containing water inrush frequently due to the complex geology condition; water inrush has become a serious disaster in coal mining. To prevent water-bursting disaster from the floor of mine and cutting down deaths and economic loss, a grouting method for limestone fracture aquifer has been widely adopted. In this paper, a time-dependent empirical grouting model considering (1) time-dependent behavior of the injected slurry, (2) response of the rock, and (3) interaction between the slurry and rock was proposed to describe the slurry diffusion mechanism in rock fracture. Aiming at the problem of water disaster prevention of a coal seam floor in 16,104 working face of Luxi coal mine, that was, the grouting failed to seal the water flow channel of aquifer, the causes of the failure of grouting for water sealing were analyzed. According to the aquifer parameters and model calculation results, a grouting scheme with a slurry diffusion radius of 20 m and grouting pressure of 8 MPa was proposed; 2 rounds of grouting were implemented, following the split spacing principle, to ensure that finer fractures can be sufficiently sealed. Finally, with the comparative analysis through the network parallel electrical method (NPEM) and the drilling exploration method for water-rich areas before and after grouting, it was verified that the grouting effect for floor limestone aquifer was good, and the grouting scheme proposed and the grouting pressure designed were reasonable. Results may provide reference to a karst fractured aquifer grouting project, as well as reduced the losing because of blindness and experience.

Abstract:Abstract In recent years, the regional grouting treatment technology for limestone aquifers of coal seam floor in North China type coalfield has been developed significantly. However, the detection and evaluation of water inrush risk(or treatment effect) after grouting for limestone aquifers has not yet formed a complete technical system. In view of the high cost and low amount of information of traditional grouting evaluation methods(such as water pressure test method, borehole television method, drilling core method, etc.), it is proposed to collect geoelectric data by two-roadways parallel electricity method, to process geoelectric data by the whole space three-dimensional resistivity inversion technology and to draw a three-dimensional resistivity distribution diagram. Combined with the geological structure, hydrogeological characteristics and grouting information of the detection area, the effect of grouting treatment in limestone aquifer of coal seam floor can be evaluated. This technology was applied to the detection and evaluation of the grouting treatment effectiveness to the L8 limestone aquifer of the 2-1 coal seam floor of the 11291 working face in Zhaogu No.1 Coal Mine, which effectively guided the safe production of the working face and achieved good practical effects.

Abstract:Filling mining is a main technology of mining coal resources under buildings, and it has a good effect on preventing ground subsidence. Taking Wangtaipu coal mine of the Shanxi Jincheng Anthracite Coal Mining Group as the engineering background, in order to solve the problem of traditional closed brick wall at the end of working face, which consumes a lot of manpower and material resources, and low efficiency, a technology of rapid-molding in-closed retaining-wall was proposed. Through theoretical analysis and engineering analogy, the overall structure and size of the mold bag were designed. Through the experiment of high-water bleeding rate and slurry expansion, it was determined that the best water-cement ratio was 0.85 : 1, and the best additive content was 25 kg/m3. Taking economic factors into consideration, it was determined that liquid sodium silicate was used as the admixture. The XV2308 working face was selected for on-site testing and the on-site monitoring of the roof pressure, the roadway deformation, and the stress of the coal body. The results showed that there was no large area roof pressure on the working face, the coal body was under stable force, the stress concentration coefficient was small, the coal pillar had no plastic failure, and the roadway deformation was small. Through on-site monitoring of ground subsidence, the results showed that the amount of ground movement and deformation were small. The maximum value of subsidence was 12 mm, which could meet the requirements of safety production and had significant economic benefits.
Pressure Relief and Bolt Grouting Reinforcement and Width Optimization of Narrow Coal Pillar for Goaf-Side Entry Driving in Deep Thick Coal Seam: A Case Study

Abstract:Goaf-side roadway driving with narrow coal pillars could obviously improve coal resource recovery rates compared with traditional large, wide pillars, and this is pivotal to the sustainable development of underground mines. However, it is very difficult to control the stability of goaf-side roadway driving, especially in deep, thick coal seams with large and high working faces. In order to control the stability of goaf-side entry driving in working face 210106 of the deep and thick coal seam in Xinji No.2 Coal Mine in Anhui Province of China, we carried out field investigations, theoretical calculations, numerical simulations, and an engineering practice to identify the main factors influencing the deformation of the surrounding rock in order to optimize the width of the narrow coal pillar and to propose countermeasures for goaf-side entry driving. Our results show that the main factors influencing deformation of the rock surrounding the roadways at working face 210106 in Xinji No.2 Coal Mine include high ground stress, large mining height, thick sandstone in the roof, and the residual abutment pressure of the adjacent goaf. The results obtained from theoretical calculations, the numerical simulations, and the engineering practice indicate that a 5 m-wide coal pillar is relatively appropriate and feasible. The countermeasures of pressure relief by blasting roof cutting and bolt grouting reinforcement were carried out to control the stability for goaf-side entry driving. Field measurements indicated that deformations of goaf-side entry driving in deep, thick coal seams could be efficiently controlled. The maximum deformations of sidewall-to-sidewall and roof-to-floor were 100 mm and 350 mm, respectively.

Case Studies in Thermal Engineering

Abstract:Freezing method is used in the main shaft slotting repair project in Chensilou Coal Mine in China. According to the actual conditions of Chensilou Coal Mine, this paper established a numerical calculation model which included the following influence factors: thermodynamic parameters, borehole layout, original formation temperature, groundwater seepage, hot water circulation protection. The calculation results show that the reasonable brine temperature for the freezing project in Chensilou Coal Mine should be controlled between -30 °C and -25 °C and the reasonable freezing time should be 160 days. When the freezing time extends to 80–120 days, the freezing front has developed to the temperature-control hole. In this case, the hot water circulation of the temperature-control hole needs to be started and the hot water temperature is not lower than 20 °C. The freezing construction was implemented in accordance with the optimized brine temperature and freezing time, and the freezing of tower foundation has been successfully avoided. The measured results show that the tower tilts to the northeast as a whole during formation freezing and the tilt values are all less than the allowable value.

Abstract:Many mines have introduced the tunnel boring machine (TBM) to improve the efficiency of rock tunneling because of its high propulsion capacity, safe working space, and intelligent equipment. In contrast, the operating environment of coal mines is often under complex geological conditions such as high ground stress, large depth of burial, high temperature, water damage, and large construction angles, making it difficult to apply traditional TBMs in coal mines. Taking the TBM of Gaojiapu Coal Mine of Zhengtong Coal Industry as an example, this paper introduces the coal mine adaptability transformation and construction technology optimization of the equipment, optimizes the design of the roadheader department of the equipment, increases the support operation space and reduces the empty roof distance, shortens the length of the whole machine and transforms the walking structure to enhance its maneuverability and convenience, and applies the monorail crane to the auxiliary transportation system of TBM. This paper proposes the theory of TBM tunneling disaster control in complex geology, research and discussion on TBM jamming, impact pressure, cooling prevention and control, and water damage in complex geological conditions. The results obtained were applied at the Zhengtong Coal Industry in engineering practice, resulting in an average monthly progress of more than 200 m, which is more than three times more efficient than full rock heaving, and also reduces the work intensity of tunneling personnel and promotes the development of coal mining. The final part of the article looks at the future application of TBMs in coal mining.

Abstract:As a new technology,the directional drilling for underground coal mine has been applied in fields such as gas drainage,water control,geological exploration and accurate drilling borehole engineering. By the popularization and application in more than 30 mines of China,the horizontal directional drilling technology and the equipments for underground coal mine have been gradually improved with new progress; ZDY12000 LD directional drilling rig,MWD by mud pulse transmission system,geosteering drilling device and compound directional drilling technology have been formed. 1881 m directional drilling borehole in coal seam and 1026 m directional drilling borehole in rock were completed in underground coalmine,which show the advantages of ZDY12000 LD rig in large power,high capability in drilling and accident processing and high measurement accuracy of MWD by mud pulse transmission system,by the combination of directional drilling with down-hole motor and rotary drilling technologies,the high drilling efficiency is achieved with smooth borehole wall,less cuttings and small borehole curvature.
