The Use of Film & TV Script Corpus in Teaching of Oral English: A Teacher-led DDL Approach

Abstract:Amidst the increasing advocacy of DDL in foreign language teaching,some scholars have cast doubt on this approach.This article attempts to demonstrate how the use of English film and TV script corpus helps learners to focus on,understand and master crucial spoken English features.The writer argues that all this embodies a teacher-led DDL approach integrated with multiple linguistic perspectives.It taps into the strengths of both film-aided qualitative teaching and corpus-based quantitative investigation.With an eye to addressing learners' autonomous learning capacity as well as their cognitive style in general,this vision strikes a balance among exploratory process,finite product rendering and further after-class confirmatory effort,hopefully bringing a fresh thinking on oral English instruction as well as DDL itself.
