Abstract:Pollen morphologies of 16 species of Angelica in southwest China were investigated under light microscope(LM) and scanning electron microscope(SEM).The pollen morphologies of 7 species were first reported here. The results showed that pollen grains of Angelica plants in southwest China were big and distinguishingly differentiated, with diverse types ranging from primitive ones to medium ones and advanced ones.Shapes of pollen grains were mainly sub-rhombus,oval,sub-rectangle and equatoriated constricted, with angul aperture or lateral aperture. The diversity of pollen morphologies indicated that Angelica in southwest China had an early origin and had been evolving all the while. The infrageneric system of Angelica was preliminarily discussed based on the pollen morphologies in order to provide evidences for the classification and phylogenetic studies of this genus.
