Abstract:Prof.Francois Jullien,the famous French scholar,puts forward the conception of "gap"in his lecture Gap and Relationship: How to think Otherness between China and Europe in Current Globalization,which was given in the international Summit Dialogue and Forum-"Ideas and Methods Possibilites of a Chinese-Western Dialogue in a Globalized Age",held in Beijing Normal University in December,2012.Based on this conception,he tries to reconstruct the possibility between the self and the other.As a new way to open eastern and western dialogue,the conception of"gap"goes beyond the original binary opposition between Chinese and Western thinking and emphases the independence for both sides in the dialogue,which gives an important enlightening significance for exploring the theory of comparative literature.Variation study,as one of the important theories of comparative literature,which is pointed out by the author confirms the validity of comparing between individual civilizations.Coincidently,the conception of"gap"and variation study in comparative literature share the similar position;they can be not only in "harmonious with diversity",but also in"creative with diversity".Moreover,faced on differences,they both find keys to open the door for Chinese and Western culture dialogue.
