Abstract:Insurance was one of the industries that opened thoroughly after China's entry into WTO. Although insurance experienced the financial crisis, the crisis has also influenced the insurance company. Insurance may be one ring of systemic risk transmission chain, therefore, insurance regulators need to change the prudent supervision way and establish a suitable macro prudent supervision framework of the insurance industry.Under this background, it is very necessary to get a relatively clear and accurate understanding about the present situation of China life insurance market structure. This paper has studied and found: In China, the quantity of life insurance companies are less, life insurance market's concentration is too high. Besides our life insurance market structure is oligopoly, but the features of market structure differs by area. After analyzing the reason of high market concentration we found that the main cause is the results of administrative resources allocation of insurance industry and high barriers for entry and the high barriers for bankrupcy of insurance industry. According to the prediction result of life insurance market concentration, in the period of 12th Five Year Plan, China life insurance market concentration continues to drop. We think, in the period of 12th Five Year Plan, life insurance market business development in China during the basic guiding thought is: adjusting the structure of products, increasing the proportion of health insurance and casualty insurancet and of protection-type products, Especially for developing insurance products related to endowment insurance.
