Abstract:In this paper we consider continuous-time and discrete-time waveform relaxation methods for general nonlinear integral-differential-algebraic equations. For the continuous-time case we derive the convergence condition of the iterative methods by invoking the spectral theory on the resulting iterative operators. By use of the implicit difference forms, namely the backward-differentiation formulae, we also yield the convergence condition of the discrete waveforms. Numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the theoretical work reported here.

Abstract:In this paper we derive the expressions of the spectra of waveform relaxation operators for linear differential-algebraic equations which stem from circuit simulation. These expressions suggest ways to split the matrices of the circuit equations such that waveform relaxation will converge. Numerical experimental results are given.

Abstract:The multisplitting technique introduced by D. P. O'Leary and R. E. White is applied to treat the waveform relaxation solutions for systems of linear integral-differential-algebraic equations in circuit simulation. The convergence condition of the multisplitting waveform relaxation method which can contain overlapping is established for the continuous-time case. The convergence rates of the relaxation-based method for different multisplittings are compared from the view-point of spectral radii of splitting matrices in systems. Numerical experiments are provided to confirm the new theoretical results.

Abstract:The waveform relaxation method has been successfully applied into solving fractional ordinary differential equations and fractional functional differential equations [11, 5]. In this paper, the waveform relaxation method is further used to solve fractional differential-algebraic equations, which often arise in integrated circuits with new memory materials. We give the iteration scheme of the waveform relaxation method and analyze the convergence of the method under linear and nonlinear conditions for the right-hand of the equations. Numerical examples illustrate the feasibility and efficiency of the method.

Abstract:We present theoretical results on the convergence of iterative methods for the solution of linear differential-algebraic equations arising from circuit simulation. The iterative methods considered include the continuous-time and discrete-time waveform relaxation methods and the Krylov subspace methods in function space. The waveform generalized minimal residual method for solving linear differential-algebraic equations in function space is developed, which is one of the waveform Krylov subspace methods. Some new criteria for convergence of these iterative methods are derived. Examples are given to verify the convergence conditions.

Abstract:We present a monotone waveform relaxation algorithm which produces very tight upper and lower bounds of the transient response of a class of systems described by nonlinear differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) that satisfy certain Lipschitz conditions. The choice of initial iteration is critical and we give two methods of finding it. We show that the class of systems in which monotone convergence of waveform relaxation is possible is actually larger than previously reported. Numerical experiments are given to confirm the monotonicity of convergence of the algorithm.

Abstract:In this paper we present an expression of the spectra and pseudospectra of the waveform relaxation operator in the solution of the steady, state response of linear circuits under periodic excitation. We show that the convergence of a relaxation-based algorithm can be safeguarded if the maximum value of the spectral radii for a series of matrices derived from the system is less than one. A numerical example is provided to show the spectra and pseudospectra of an iterative scheme applied to a linear circuit under periodic excitation.

Abstract:Waveform relaxation methods are decoupling or splitting methods for large scale ordinary differential equations. In this paper, we apply the methods directly to semi-linear parabolic partial functional differential equations. Taking into consideration of the complicated forms of these parabolic equations, we propose a kind of embedded waveform relaxation methods, which are in fact two-level waveform relaxation methods and which can also be applied to some other systems. We provide explicit iterative expressions of the embedded methods and exhibit the superlinear rate of convergence on finite time intervals. We also apply the two-level idea to the functional differential equations derived from semi-discretization of the original system. The windowing technique is employed for the situation of long time intervals. Finally, two numerical experiments are performed to confirm our theory.

Abstract:We propose an algorithm, which is based on the waveform relaxation (WR) approach, to compute the periodic solutions of a linear system described by differential-algebraic equations. For this kind of two-point boundary problems, we derive an analytic expression of the spectral set for the periodic WR operator. We show that the periodic WR algorithm is convergent if the supremum value of the spectral radii for a series of matrices derived from the system is less than 1. Numerical examples, where discrete waveforms are computed with a backward-difference formula, further illustrate the correctness of the theoretical work in this paper.

Abstract:In this paper, we use waveform relaxation method to solve fractional functional differential equations. Under suitable conditions imposed on the so-called splitting functions the convergence results of the waveform relaxation method are given. Delay dependent error estimates for the method are derived. Error bounds for some special cases are considered. Numerical examples illustrate the feasibility and efficiency of the method. It is the first time for applying the method in the fractional functional differential equations.

Abstract:We present a simple theorem to safeguard the convergence of waveform, relaxation (WR) solutions of a dynamic system described by nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with a periodic constraint. Namely, if a basic expression of certain constants issued from the system is less than one, the proposed WR algorithm is convergent to the exact solution. It is the first time that WR is used to treat periodic solutions of nonlinear dynamic systems. A numerical example is provided to confirm the theoretic work of the paper. Abstract:A new waveform bounding algorithm to obtain an upper and lower waveform bound of the time response of a class of RLC circuits is presented. The algorithm produces a sequence of waveforms which converge to the true solution monotonically from above and below. The key step is the choice of the initial guess in the relaxation process. A new method to obtain an initial guess that guarantees monotonic convergence is given. Numerical examples are included to confirm the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive and analyse waveform relaxation (WR) methods for solving differential equations evolving on a Lie-group. We present both continuous-time and discrete-time WR methods and study their convergence properties. In the discrete-time case, the novel methods are constructed by combining WR methods with Runge-KuttaMunthe-Kaas (RK-MK) methods. The obtained methods have both advantages of WR methods and RK-MK methods, which simplify the computation by decoupling strategy and preserve the numerical solution of Lie-group equations on a manifold. Three numerical experiments are given to illustrate the feasibility of the new WR methods.
