Abstract:An apparatus and method that can allow continuous and precise total collection of urine under normal conditions was developed. This apparatus and method satisfies the urine sampling requirement of balance studies and metabolic experiments of steers. The apparatus is comprised of a urine cup and collection barrel. The total and precise collection of urine can be achieved without leakage, fecal contamination and urethra infection. The apparatus has minimal negative effects on the steers and does not influence the steers normal physiological activities.

Abstract:Paroxysmal pollution of water resource is a kind of chaotic accidents, and will cause urgent and serious results. Therefore, it is of realistic importance to prevent paroxysmal pollution of the water resource and set up corresponding emergency mechanism for national property and people's safety and social development. Based on the analysis of the current situation of paroxysmal pollution of water resource, in this paper, researches is carried out to establish prevention and emergency mechanism for paroxysmal pollution of water resource in our country, the three limitations in current work is pointed out, and several measures are put forward to prevent paroxysmal pollution of water resource more quickly and establish corresponding emergency mechanism, including investigation of hidden trouble, evaluation of frangibility, prediction of water quality, dynamic inspection and emergency organization of paroxysmal pollution, which can be expected to provide certain theoretical analytical foundation for increasing paroxysmal pollution of water resource and its loss.

Abstract:Background: The results of urine tests are often affected by improper midstream urine collection time, urine spilling, and urine pollution, all of which can lead to an increase in the test error. Objective: To solve this problem, aiming at improving the toilet environment at the hospitals and public physical examination centers, this paper designs an automatic urine collection system. It can automatically adjust the position of the urine cup with an infrared remote controller, or manually, adjust the position of the urine cup in special situations according to the needs of the user. It also has an alarm function. Methods: The overall size and shape are designed based on the squatting pan, suitable for disposable plastic urine cups of different shapes and sizes. It can realize the automatic collection of midstream urine, manual collection in exceptional cases, emergency stops, and rescue calls. Results: Through the trial survey, there was a significant difference between the statistical results of using the device and not using the device (t= 13.937, P= 0.000). 96% of the subjects thought that the design of the system was reasonable, 22% thought that it was inconvenient to use, and 91.7% of the medical staff thought that the system met the sampling requirements. Conclusions: Therefore, the trial evaluation is satisfactory, and the proposed collection system is suitable for use in hospitals at all levels and public health examination centers with a large amount of inspection.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of modified method of replacing urine-collecting bags in urethral stricture patients with indwelling catheter.Methods One hundred and sixty patients were randomly assigned to experiment group and control group (80 patients in each group).Patients in experiment group were replaced urine-collecting bags by improved method. In control group,traditional method was used.The incidence of side-effect,awareness on indwelling catheter cautions,earlier recovery exercise of bladder function by correct pipe-griping method as well as the urine culture result were evaluated.Results None of patients in experiment group showed difficulty in decannulation,and there was statistical difference among two groups (0 vs 4,x2 =4.103,P ＜0.05).The positive rate of urine culture in experiment group was 7.50％ and it was significantly lower than that in control group (21.25％),and there was statistical difference among two groups (x2 =6.144,P ＜0.05 ).Awareness on indwelling catheter cautions in experiment group was superior to control group( P ＜ 0.05 ).Conclusions For patients indwelling catheter with complex urethral stricture,the application of improved method in replacing urine-collecting bags can reduce the incidence of side effects in indwelling catheter and alleviate patient' s discomfort. It makes the method of replacing urine-collecting bags more reasonable,and improves the quality of medical care and degree of patients' satisfaction.

Abstract:Objective:To explore the application effect of self-made urine specimen collector in the collection of urine specimens from patients with Parkinson's disease.Methods:Using the convenience sampling method, 150 patients with Parkinson's disease admitted from August 2018 to February 2020 of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China were selected as the experimental group, and 125 patients with Parkinson's disease admitted from August 2017 to July 2018 were selected as the control group. The experimental group used the self-made urine specimen collector to collect urine, and the control group used a disposable plastic urine cup to collect urine. The qualification rate, one-time retention success rate, retention time of urine specimens and patient satisfaction between two groups were compared.Results:The qualification rate, one-time retention success rate of urine samples, and the satisfaction score of experimental group were higher than those of control group. The urine specimen retention time of experimental group was shorter than that of control group. The above differences were statistically significant ( P<0.05) . Conclusions:The self-made urine specimen collector can improve the qualification rate, the success rate of one-time retention of urine specimens and patient satisfaction, shorten the retention time of urine specimens, which can be further promoted and used.

Abstract:As the human excreta, urine is often used as one of the test materials in medical research due to its composition and content directly reflecting the health status of the body. Considering that the substances in urine may show different effects on its freezing process, solidification characteristics of sessile urine droplets on a horizontal cold plate surface under natural convection were experimentally investigated by comparing with those of water droplets under same conditions. To make the conclusion analysis more reasonable, the urine of a human without any diseases, especially metabolic diseases, was treated and used. The characteristics include nucleation location, dynamic variation of droplet color, and temperatures at different heights inside the droplet, and so forth. It was found that, similar to that of a water droplet, the solidification process of a urine droplet also experiences the following four stages: supercooling, recalescence, freezing, and cooling, in chronological order. Differently, the urine droplet changes from transparent to blur white at the supercooling stage due to the precipitation of inorganic salts. For nucleation locations, 46.67% cases are at the bottom, while others are at the top and middle of urine droplets. For a 10 μL droplet on a surface of -30 °C, urine has a 0.95 s freezing duration shorter than water, and a 5.31 °C lower phase-transition temperature. Results of this study are expected to reflect the content of substances in urine and thus provide references for urinalysis of patients with metabolic diseases.

Abstract:Recycling resources excreted in human urine can help achieve a sustainable future and circular economy in the sanitation space. However, many studies researching different technologies for safely recycling urine do not use real human urine for experimentation, relying instead on recipes for making synthetic or artificial solutions that attempt to mimic the composition of real human urine. This methodological choice is the focus of this article, which points out that the real urine matrix is extremely complex, with a metabolome (>2,500 metabolites) that differs greatly from that of synthetic urine (<15 metabolites). Therefore, experimental results obtained using synthetic urine can also differ from those obtained using real urine. To exemplify this, we review published literature in terms of four aspects: i) solubility of chemicals and buffering capacity of urine, ii) dissolved organics and membrane fouling, iii) thermodynamic modelling of chemical speciation in urine, and iv) removal of pollutants from urine. We recognise that there is a place for synthetic urine in sanitation research and provide examples of studies where its use is appropriate. Lastly, based on literature from the medical sciences, we provide preliminary guidelines on protocols for preparing synthetic urine that could improve experimentation involving human urine and accelerate the water sector's transition to circularity.

Abstract:Current experiences in pilot sanitation projects indicate that the spontaneous precipitation in urine diversion (UD) systems has been one of the main challenges for the implementation of urine source separation on large-scale. As a result of microbial ureolysis, an increased pH leads to the formation of inorganic precipitates, which increases the risk of pipe blockage. Although significant advancements have been made in controlling the spontaneous precipitation in UD systems, experimentation in pilot projects is not enough to provide the feasible and reliable support for technical selection to adapt quickly to changing boundary conditions, such as population size and density. Therefore, established techniques should be constantly reassessed and improved in a broader variety of experimental settings to ensure the wide applicability, economic and environmental benefits, and social acceptance. This work also clarified the importance of establishing standardized evaluation methods, which helps to integrate the knowledge gained from reported specific case studies and provide detailed information that can support the decision makers. On the other hand, the economic assessment indicated that maximizing the value of the urine-derived fertilizers can ensure a favorable rate of return, which is important to attract investors and promote the implementation of urine source separation. Meanwhile, current legislation and government support have provided the opportunities for large-scale implementation of urine source separation. The decision makers should be prepared well to deal with such a paradigm shift.

Urination Behaviours Of Senior Citizens In Five Chinese Cities: Results Of A Cross-Sectional Survey

Abstract:Aim To investigate the urination behaviours of senior citizens in China. Methods Stratified random sampling was used to recruit senior citizens who met the inclusion criteria from five cities in China. After training by researchers, participants recorded their urination behaviours in real time by using the validated 7-day 24-hour urination behaviour record, which consisted of frequency of urination, time of urination, urinary urgency and urine colour. Results Of the 551 recruited participants, 524 (233 male and 291 female) completed the survey, yielding a completion rate of 95.1%. The median frequency of urination was 7.4 times per day. The frequency of urination was highest among participants in Guangzhou, at 8.0 times per day (chi(2) = 29.356; P < .001), and participants in the first percentile body mass index group, at 8.0 times per day (chi(2) = 10.344; P = .016). The percentage of participants who urinated >7 times during the day was 44.3%. The percentage of participants who urinated >= 1 time at night was 77.5%. The number of times participants reported feeling no urge to urinate, a strong urge to urinate and an uncomfortable urge to urinate accounted for 59.7%, 62.8% and 24.8% of all records of urinary urgency, respectively. Instances of patients having no urge to urinate, a strong urgent to urinate and an uncomfortable urge accounted for 16.1%, 13.3% and 2.9% of all instances of urination, respectively. The number of times participants whose urine was yellow and dark yellow accounted for 69.1% and 18.9% of all records of urine colour, respectively. Urine with yellow and dark yellow colour accounted for 13.0% and 1.5%, respectively. Conclusion Unhealthy urination behaviours, including urinating at night and holding back urine, were common among senior citizens. This result can provide information for the prevention and control of urinary system diseases.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To improve the understanding of acute obstructive anuria at upper urinary tract in order to cope properly with corresponding clinical problems.METHODS:The clinical problems of acute obstructive anuria at upper urinary tract in 55 patients was summarized and analysed. Anuria, lumbago, edema and progressive increase of blood creatinine and ureal nitrogen were the main bases of diagnosis. B-typed ultrasonography and plain film of abdomen (KUB) were the first choice in examinations. The treatment principles lied in prompt removal of obstruction as well as effective prevention and treatment of infection to protect renal function to maximum extent.RESULTS:Forty-three cases (78.2%) recovered normal renal function. Ten cases (18.2%) still had azotemia three months after treatment. Two cases gave up treatment.CONCLUSIONS:The reason of tumor for anuria should be paid attention to. The first choice in treatments is ureteral intubation by cystoscope. Diuretic should be used cautiously.
Study on the bladder irrigation of patients with indwelling urethral catheter

Abstract:Objective To investigate the necessity of bladder irrigation of patients with long-term indwelling urethral catheter.Methods 120 patients with long-term indwelling urethral catheter were randomly divided into four groups and given bladder irrigation in different frequency(2/d,1/d,1/w and in special circumstances)or none.Urine specimen was collected and tested on 1 d,5 d,7 d,10 d,14 d,21 d and before the catheter withdrawal.The incidence rates of catheter-associated urinary tract infection of the groups were observed.Results The infection rate of patients without bladder irrigation(13.33％)was similar to those given bladder irrigation once a week(13.33％),but was lower than those given bladder irrigation twice a day (56.67％)and once a day(36.67％).The difference was statistically significant(x2 =18.73,P ＜ 0.01).The positive rate of urine culture in patients without bladder irrigation(20.00％)was lower than those given bladder irrigation once a week or in special circumstances(30.00％),those given bladder irrigation once a day (53.33％)and twice a day(76.67％).The difference was statistically significant(x2 =23.30,P ＜ 0.01).The frequency of bladder irrigation and duration of catheter indwelling were the risk factors of urinary tract infection.Conclusions Frequent bladder irrigation has no effect on preventing urinary infection.Individual schedule of bladder irrigation should be made according to the patients' condition.

Abstract:Background: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common cause of acute illness among infants and young children. There are numerous methods for collecting urine in children who are not toilet trained. This review examined practice variation in the urine collection methods for diagnosing UTI in non-toilet-trained children. Methods: A systematic review was completed by searching MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), CENTRAL (Ovid), PsycInfo (Ovid), CINAHL (EBSCO), and JBI (Ovid) from January 1, 2000 until October 9, 2021 and updated on May 24, 2023. Studies were included if they were conducted in an acute care facility, examined pre-toilet trained children, and compared one urine collection method with another for relevant health care outcomes (such as length of stay in an ED, or re-visits or readmissions to the ED) or provider satisfaction. Two independent reviewers screened the identified articles independently, and those included in the final analysis were assessed for quality and bias using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Results: Overall, 2535 articles were reviewed and 8 studies with a total of 728 children were included in the final analysis. Seven studies investigated the primary outcome of interest, practice variation in urine collection methods to diagnose a UTI. The seven studies that investigated novel methods of urine collection concluded that there were improved health care outcomes compared to conventional methods. Novel methods include emerging methods that are not captured yet captured in clinical practice guidelines including the use of ultrasound guidance to aid existing techniques. Three studies which investigated healthcare provider satisfaction found preference to novel methods of urine collection. Conclusions: There is significant practice variation in the urine collection methods within and between countries. Further research is needed to better examine practice variation among clinicians and adherence to national organizations and societies guidelines. PROSPERO registration number CRD42021267754.
Analysis of constituents of 458 urinary stones samples

Abstract:Objective To study the constituents of urinary stones in Xi'an region, and provide methods in prevention and treatment of urinary stones. Methods Chemical analysis was carried out on 458 random urinary stones samples. The chemical constituents of the stones were compared with the clinical data. Results Urinary stones were more often found in males than in females, and the ratio was 2.1, especially in those 20 to 50 years old. The upper system stones were more frequently found than the lower system stones, and the ratio was 10.5∶1. The most common component of the urinary stones are mixed stones (71%), which are mainly composed of calcium oxalate, phosphate stones and uric-stones. Constituents of mixed stones and pure stones amount to the similar percentage. Conclusion Chemical composition analysis may provide important information to the etiology and prevention of urinary stones in future.
Effect of urination instructions in treatment of functional voiding abnormality

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of urination instructions in the treatment of functional voiding abnormality. Methods From October 2012 to June 2013 totally 170 children with functional voiding abnormality in Children's Hospital of Fudan University were chosen. They were randomly divided into the experimental group (n = 86)and control group (n = 84). The control group was given the routine treatment and health education,and the experimental group was given additional comprehensive urination instructions including voiding diary,urination guidance and biofeedback therapy. Telephone follow-up was performed 3 months and 6 months later and outpatient follow-up was completed 12 months later to assess the therapeutic effects. Results In the experimental group,72 were cured (83. 7％),9 improved (10. 5％),and 5 invalid (5. 8％). In the control group,26 were cured (31. 0％),36 improved (42. 9％),and 22 invalid (26. 2％). There were significant differences between the two groups (P < 0. 05 ). Conclusion The comprehensive urination instructions has a certain therapeutic effect in the treatment of functional voiding abnormality.

[Sample collection methods for urine culture and analysis]

Abstract:A review of the scientific evidence available on the validity of existing sample collection methods for urine culture and analysis in childhood is presented. Few studies evaluating diagnostic tests have analyzed the various available techniques with respect to valid patterns of reference. Except for clean catch midstream urine samples, there are no estimators of validity (sensitivity, specificity, probability quotients) that can be generalized to most of the techniques and that could guide decision making. Consequently, data from descriptive studies on the risk of contamination, feasibility, safety and acceptability of each technique will have to be considered in decision making. Urine collection by means of adhesive perineal bag is the most widely used method in Spain in children who do not control urine emission. Nevertheless, this technique has a high risk of contamination and a very low positive predictive value, limiting its diagnostic utility. Urethral catheterization and suprapubic bladder aspiration are considered the tests of choice; however, because these tests are invasive, their use is restricted. Therefore, when choosing the technique to be used, the patient's circumstances and our working environment will have to be considered.

Abstract:Objective To discuss the prevention of postpartum urinary retention with nursing intervention measures and its effects.Method 80 cases′ delivery of maternal health were randomly divided into observation group(nursing intervention) and the control group(conventional nursing) and contrasted the effect for each group.Results Total effective rate,postpartum catheterize rate and average first micturition time difference of the two groups of urinary retention prevent were compared with significant(P0.05).Conclusion Nursing intervention measures to prevent postpartum urinary retention can effectively reduce the catheterize rate,shorten the time of postoperative micturition.So it is worth clinical promotion use.
