Abstract:CVT performance test was taken on special powertrain bench for CVT.The governing characteristic was analysed,according to which the CVT system efficiency test method was designed.The test result shows that the efficiency is high when CVT gear ratio is above 1.5,torque ratio is between 0.4 and 0.9.

Abstract:Power split continuously variable transmission(PS-CVT)is a new type of CVT system.The advantages of CVT and gear transmission are combined in structure and the capability in power transmission is strengthened.The calculation of PS-CVT efficiency is complicated,for the efficiency of planetary gear is related to input and output components,also because there are several combinations of serial and parallel PS-CVT.A formula for efficiency calculation of PS-CVT with serial-parallel combination is deducted and an optimal structure with highest transmission efficiency is selected after calculation.The result of research has guidance significance for the design of PS-CVT mechanical structure.

Abstract:According to the requirement of research on transmission performance of gear pair in chassis of a heavy-duty vehicle, this paper develops a comprehensive testing system suitable for wide-range gear pairs, which can realize various types of performance testing of parallel and spiral bevel gears under quasi-static and dynamic conditions. Then taking a hypoid gear for example, The finite element model of hypoid gear transmission system suitable for quasi-static tooth contact analysis is established. Through the contact analysis, the simulation results of tooth surface contact area, root bending stress and transmission error are obtained, which are in good agreement with the test results.

Abstract:Transmission efficiency is one of the main limiting factors on metal belt CVT large-scale assembly car. Metal belt CVT transmission efficiency has been invested in this paper, and, test-bed has been established by L13A3 engine, MB-CVT, brake, input sensor, output sensor, coupling and half shaft. Efficiency test results show that, with the decrease of transmission ratio, CVT efficiency first increases and then decreases. The range of efficiency is nearly 45%-89% in increases part (i>1), the range of efficiency is nearly 85%-89% in decrease part (i<1), the efficiency reaches the highest when transmission ratio is 1. The conclusions are in consistent with others conclusion, whereby demonstrating that the established transmission efficiency test-bed is rational and that the experiment results are reliable.
Optimal control strategy of CVT equipped vehicle for maximum power performance

Abstract:Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) equipped vehicle improves its power performance by ensure the engine works on its peak power point under each throttle angle. This method didn't pay any attention to the CVT efficiency, which also has influences on power performance of the system. Based on the analysis of how CVT efficiency influences power performance of the system, an optimal algorithm is proposed to calculate the target CVT ratio to achieve maximum power performance with consideration of CVT efficiency. A simulation model is established to validate the optimal algorithm. Simulation results indicate that the acceleration time from 0 km to 100 km of the system veduced by 0.63 s.

Abstract:In order to develop continuously variable transmission (CVT) suited for electric vehicle (EV), a comparative analysis of the transmission used on EV is introduced in this paper. To solve the problems of traditional CVT used for EV, a newly designed electric CVT (ECVT) is proposed. The final drive ratio, speed ratio range of variator and hydraulic system of ECVT are redesigned for improving the transmission efficiency. Considering that the permanent magnet synchronization traction motor (PMSTM) of EV has an ideal driving characteristic (Constant torque at low speed, constant power at high speed) and wider high efficiency area compared with gasoline engine, the speed ratio control strategy of ECVT is studied again for improving the vehicle driving range and better meeting the requirements of driver. Finally, a simulation test system is fabricated for evaluating the battery energy consumption of an EV equipped with ECVT and single-speed transmission (SST) under constant speed and road drive cycle. The simulation results show that the ECVT proposed can extend the endurance mileage of EV at the speed of 20 to 90km/h, and improve the acceleration performance from 0 to 50km/h. The EV equipped with ECVT showed more advantages compared with SST in urban conditions.

Research on Clamping Force Control of CVT for Electric Vehicles Based on Slip Characteristics

Abstract:The low mechanical efficiency of metal belt's continuously variable transmission (CVT) limits its application in new energy vehicles. To further improve CVT efficiency and reduce the energy consumption of electric vehicles (EVs) with CVT, this paper proposes a pure electric CVT configuration and a clamping force control strategy. The slip characteristics of CVT are obtained through a bench test, the dynamic model of CVT slip is established, and a clamping force fuzzy control strategy is designed. The strategy is studied by simulation under extreme conditions and standard driving cycles. The simulation results show that the proposed clamping force control strategy has good adaptability. Under extreme conditions, this strategy can ensure that CVT does not undergo macro slip, while reducing the clamping force by 12.86-21.65%. Energy consumption per 100 km is 14.90 kWh in NEDC, which is 6.67% lower compared with the traditional strategy. CVT average efficiency and average transmission efficiency increased by 3.71% and 6.40%. The research results demonstrate that adjusting the CVT clamping force through fuzzy control based on the slip rate can improve the CVT efficiency and energy economy of EVs, which provides a certain reference for CVT clamping force control strategy development and the application of CVT on EVs.

Abstract:The continuously variable transmission (CVT) offers much freedom in controlling the engine speed and torqueCwhich can be used to improve fuel economy by operating the engine in fuel-optimal operating points. In this paper, the engine maximum power operation modes of CVT driveline will be described entirely and respectively. The rapid control prototype (RCP) of CVT was developed to validate the maximum power output operation on board. The CVT control program was developed in the Simulink and was translated into C program in Real Time Workshop, which was downloaded into the MicroAutoBox (MAB) to communicate with the low level drive module of CVT via CAN bus. The experiment results were analyzed fully to conclude that the maximum power output operation of engine can get the better acceleration performance and drivability than the common control strategy.

Abstract:The continuous speed ratio of the continuously variable transmission (CVT) changed rapidly, which made the quantity of oil intake and discharge of hydraulic system vary frequently, resulting in large energy loss and reduction in vehicle economy. In view of this issue, in this paper, taking a plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) equipped with CVT as the research object, and a CVT discretely variable speed ratio optimization method based on genetic algorithm (DVROM-GA), which could reduce the energy loss and improve the system transmission efficiency, was proposed. Firstly, five driving modes of PHEV were studied to obtain the system transmission efficiency under different modes. Subsequently, the continuously variable speed ratio of CVT was divided into discretely variable speed ratios, and a genetic algorithm, which aimed at optimizing system transmission efficiency, was adopted to simultaneously optimize the number of gears and the discretely variable speed ratio to obtain the shifting rules under different driving modes. Ultimately, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, compared with the energy consumption of continuously variable transmission, the proposed method could improve the economy of PHEV by 2.2%.

Abstract:In this paper, the regulating principle of rotate speed of Metal V-belt Type CVT and the test device of P811 CVT are introduced. The control mode of CVT is discussed according to the test. And the linear characteristic between the oil pressure of the driven gear and the transmission ratio is verified in the aspect of theory and test, when the throttle opening keeps constant. This is an evolvement in terms of control theory of CVT.

Abstract:Power split CVT is a promising concept for automotive application in the future.Theoretically,it can offer a torque limit up to 500 Nm as well as total ratio spread between 6 and 7.The limitation for torque transfer capability can be raised,as the power flow through variator decreased.The system included variator and planetary gear set,which featured a power flow as following,the imput shaft transfer the power to sun gear and driving pulley.Thus a power split formed and can realize variable possibilities.On the hydraulic concept,a double piston principle was applied for an advanced clamping system,which can provide sound privilege in fuel consumption.Control strategy was developed for the CVT structure to achieve a more comfortable drivability and smoothness.Then computer simulation was carried out to show the result of optimization.

Abstract:A wind turbine is the most typical machine used to capture energy from the wind. The system design goal of a wind turbine is to obtain as much energy as possible from the wind while transmitting as much of that energy to the grid as possible, all under the highest possible level of stability. Currently, many inherent weaknesses result in a high failure rate in common commercial wind turbines with gear drive systems. To improve the performance, in this study, a typical 1.5 MW gear transmission was redesigned into a novel hydromechanical transmission system (HMTS). Parameters related to the HMTS efficiency were analysed to ensure that the efficiency was relatively high. The variable speed ratio (VSR) and torque triple absorption (TTA) principle were thoroughly deduced. Moreover, a MATLAB/Simulink- AMESim cosimulation model was proposed, and a 30 kW proportional prototype was established. Both simulation and experimental results show that the structural design and proposed control strategies meet the design goals, including a relatively high transmission efficiency around the rated wind speed, speed control below the rated wind speed, and torque control above the rated wind speed. These achievements should guarantee the future application of the novel transmission system in wind turbines.

Abstract:The CVT equipment running on site is slightly modified to form a hybrid CVT to achieve transient overvoltage measurement, which is theoretically feasible and practical. In order to study the voltage division method based on the hybrid CVT to measure the overvoltage of the power system, that is, the low voltage capacitor C3 is connected in series between the low voltage terminal of the medium voltage capacitor C2 of the traditional CVT and the ground, and the transient overvoltage measurement is realized through C3. This article uses ATP-EMTP to establish its high-frequency transient model for simulation analysis. For further verification, a power frequency voltage test and an impulse voltage test were carried out on the 110kV hybrid CVT produced by Taikai Transformer Factory, focusing on the analysis of the partial voltage characteristics of the capacitor C3. The simulation results show that the C3 partial pressure method can achieve a relatively accurate measurement of the transient overvoltage. The test results show that the voltage across C3 is affected by uncertain factors and has an impact phenomenon. The above analysis process and results have certain practical value for designing actual products.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) design. CVT is highly beneficial for actuators with rotary output as it can improve the energy efficiency of the actuators by providing an optimum transmission ratio. This property of CVT is highly beneficial for fossil-fuel-based vehicles, electric vehicles, wind turbines, industrial robots, etc. With the exception of Spherical CVT and DH CVT, all known CVTs like push belt CVTs, toroidal CVTs, Milner CVTs, etc., require additional gear sets and clutches for direction reversal and neutral gear ratio. However, Spherical CVT and DH CVT have low torque capacity due to a single traction point constraint. Foregoing in view, a new CVT named CAD CVT has been developed. The paper presents the design conception, the operating principle, the transmission ratio, the torque capacity, frictional losses, and experimental verification of the basic functionality by manufacturing a Proof of Concept (PoC). The proposed CVT is the only CVT capable of independent direction reversal and high torque capacity as it can transmit torque through multiple traction points. The new CVT will significantly impact high-torque applications in different engineering applications, especially land transport consisting of heavy vehicles like trucks, buses, and trailers.

Study on shift schedule saving energy of automatic transmission of ground vehicles

Abstract:To improve ground vehicle efficiency, shift schedule energy saving was proposed for the ground vehicle automatic transmission by studying the function of the torque converter and transmission in the vehicular drivetrain. The shift schedule can keep the torque converter working in the high efficiency range under all the working conditions except in the low efficiency range on the left when the transmission worked at the lowest shift, and in the low efficiency range on the right when the transmission worked at the highest shift. The shift quality key factors were analysed. The automatic transmission’s bench-test adopting this shift schedule was made on the automatic transmission’s test-bed. The experimental results showed that the shift schedule was correct and that the shift quality was controllable.

Abstract:For a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) equipped with CVT (Continuously variable transmission), it's an important question in developing vehicle energy management that how to make engine, motor and CVT coordinate well to maximize the overall efficiency of the hybrid system. According to this problem, an energy optimization strategy for a CVT mild HEV is proposed which takes the maximum system efficiency as optimization objective and vehicle speed, accelerator pedal degree and battery SOC as state variables while the motor torque and CVT ratio as control variables. Based on a comprehensive consideration of the driver's actual operation, driving demand and efficiencies of key components, the strategy proposed in this paper realizes the overall efficiency's maximization and gets the optimal output torque of motor and the CVT target ratio under different driving conditions. The energy management strategy based on this optimization is tested by a self-established forward simulation model, showing that compared with the proto vehicle the equivalent 100 km fuel consumption is reduced by 26.4 % under NEDC driving cycle. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

With comprehensive consideration of driver's practical operation, drive requirements and the efficiencies of all key components, the strategy determines the optimal motor torque and CVT speed ratio under different working modes of drive condition, ensuring the highest efficiency of HEV. The energy optimization strategy proposed is verified with self-built forward simulation model. The results show that the equivalent fuel consumption per 100km with NEDC driving cycle is 26.4% lower than that of original vehicle.

Abstract:The structures of parallel and serial PS-CVT are analyzed in this paper.Calculation and simulation are carried out against different types of input-output combinations,including the analysis of gear ratio τ_ PS,requirements that ensure lost power flow cycle τ_ FR,range of gear ratio rr_ PS and ratio of power flow p_ CVT p_ PS that passes CVT.The results can act as the theoretical guidance for the chosen of proper PS-CVT.

Abstract:Based on dynamics simulation model for continuously variable transmission system and adaptive fuzzy control strategy,with the consideration of the effects of reserve power,powertrain loss and the response lag to CVT ratio change,three control schemes i.e.τ algorithm,engine torque compensation and engine speed compensation are proposed,and a simulation analysis on the power performance and fuel economy under three control schemes are conducted respectively.The results show that compared to the conventional control,the three control schemes proposed can raise fuel economy by around 2.9% to 3.5% respectively while keeping the power performance intact.
