Abstract:A novel digital soft-start circuit,used in a high-efficiency,low-power dual-mode DC-DC converter,is presented.The soft start circuit was designed on the base of frequency divider and current limit circuit.Therefore,it avoids a large soft-start capacitor which was used in the traditional design.It could be fully integrated on a chip,leading to the reduction of the board space and component cost.The chip was implemented by using CSMC 0.5 μm CMOS mixed-signal process.Chip test results indicate that the process of soft-start can be carried out in approximately 750 μs.Thus,the circuit could effectively eliminate the inrush current and avoid the overshoot of the output voltage.

Abstract:Aiming at solving the problems of magnetic bias that may exist,large current stress,poor soft switching performance and duty cycle loss of phase-shift full-bridge circuit,a novel circuit topology that combines Boost circuit,phase-shift full-bridge circuit and resonant circuit was proposed.The working principles of the circuit were described firstly,and then the key waveform diagram of the circuit was given.A detailed study focusing on the conditions to achieve soft switching on the basis of working status and mathematical models with fundamental component method was made,and the design method to realize the soft switching of the novel DC/DC converter was given.The existing problems were studied and solutions were proposed.A 1 000 W prototype was developed.The experimental results indicate that the converter has a good performance,and verifies the correctness of the analysis and calculation.
An Efficient Algorithm Strategy for Synchronous Rectification Used in Llc Resonant Converters

Abstract:In this paper, an efficient algorithm strategy for synchronous rectification (SR) used in LLC resonant converters is proposed. The output voltage and the primary resonant inductor current of LLC converter are combined together to produce suitable drive signals for SR in the below resonance mode. In the other resonance modes, the drive signals for SR are synchronous with the drive signals of corresponding primary switches. In order to validate the feasibility of the proposed algorithm strategy, a 300W prototype with 100V input voltage, 25V output voltage is implemented using field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The measured maximum efficiency is 92.1% and the overall efficiency is higher than the one with conventional drive method for SR.

Abstract:A novel soft-switching and low-conduction-loss bidirectional DC-DC converter is proposed. Designed for low-output voltage applications, the converter has a full-bridge circuit on the primary side and a current-fed push-pull circuit on the secondary side. The flow of current is controlled by phase-shift pulse-width modulation. By adding an active-clamp circuitry on the secondary side and using suitable gate drives, not only the converter can achieve zero-voltage-switching (ZVS), but also the circulating current is eliminated and the conduction loss is reduced. All switches including auxiliary switches in the converter have ZVS characteristics in both charging mode and discharging mode. The proposed converter employs a saturable inductor and simple external passive-commutation circuit, which makes ZVS possible for almost entire load range. Design considerations and experimental results are presented.

Abstract:In three-phase power factor correction converter, there exists severe switching loss. A zero voltage switching three-phase boost rectifier was researched. It used only one auxiliary switch and could realize zero voltage switching for all the switches and suppressed the diode reverse recovery current. The soft switching condition was analyzed and the design guide was proposed. The conduction loss and switching loss of the rectifier was calculated and the control strategy of the rectifier under unbalanced grid voltage condition was designed. A DSP controlled 40kW prototype was built to verify the theory.

Abstract:Uncontrolled rectification on the secondary side of the resonant CLLC circuit causes a large amount of conduction loss. Accurate synchronous rectification (SR) can reduce conduction loss by replacing rectifier diodes with mosfets' channels exactly. The accuracy of the SR signals depends on the determination of the zero-crossing points of the secondary side resonant current. In this article, an accurate time-domain model is introduced for the resonant CLLC circuit to obtain these zero-crossing points. This modeling method is more accurate than first harmonic approximation and requires less computational effort than extended harmonics approximation. Compared with previous time-domain modeling methods, the proposed time-domain model gives detailed circuit state expressions and covers the entire circuit operating states. Relying on the accurate circuit model, the SR scheme proposed in this article can adaptively generate SR signals in different frequency ranges and has the ability to switch modes smoothly. And this method can be used for the later efficiency optimization of CLLC converters that do not originally have SR function, only through the control program update. Moreover, the robustness of the proposed SR method is analyzed, and the proposed concept is verified through a 3-kW resonant CLLC prototype.

Abstract:A novel self-driven synchronous rectification topology is proposed.The proposed topology has a strong driving capability,whose driving effect is almost same as traditional self-driven.What's more,it is able to adjust the amplitude of driving vohage in a certain range,which reduces driving consumption.Meanwhile,the proposed topology is suitable for the parallel use of a plurality of power supply modules without bus short circuit.The 75 W dual-switch forward converter is used as the prototype,input 300 V,output 5 V/15 A.The experimental results verify the validity of the proposed topology and the efficiency of the prototype is 87.6％.

Abstract:A novel current driven method for center-tapped synchronous rectifier (SR) is proposed in this paper. Compared with the previous current driven synchronous rectifier (CDSR), two SRs can be driven with only one current transformer by using the proposed CDSR. The new CDSR has the advantages such as simple structure, low power loss and good performance and so on. The performance of the proposed circuit is verified on an experimental LLC prototype converter.

Abstract:Synchronous rectifier lower voltage circuit DC/DC converter uses the MOSFET which has smaller on-resistance and faster speed instead of the freewheel diode in the freewheeling circuit.The free-wheeling loss is reduced.The efficienty of DC-DC converter is improved and the problem of dead zone voltage which is caused by the Schottky barrier voltage is eliminated.A 5 kW buck circuit which is controlled by PWM using the synchronous rectification is designed.Saber is an accurate and efficient circuit simulation software.Using saber to simulate the design,the circuit's output 48 V steadily and the average value of the input current achieves 105 A is shown in the results when the value of the input voltage changes from 60 to 90 V.

Abstract:Synchronous rectification (SR) is an effective method to reduce the secondary side conduction loss of CLLC bidirectional resonant converter and improve its efficiency, but the SR driving signal in CLLC converter is hard to determine. Existing SR signal generating methods can be divided into three categories: theoretical calculation, voltage detection, and current detection. Compared with the other two methods, the current detection method has wider applicability and is insensitive to parasitic parameters, but usually requires lossy, bulky and costly current sensors, increasing the cost and size of the converter. This article proposed a SR scheme based on resonant inductor voltage. The polarity of the resonant current is obtained indirectly through the inductor voltage, thereby avoiding the use of current sensors. To handle the false pulses problem caused by parasitic oscillation, a corresponding SR control strategy is proposed. The SR driving signal is then adjusted according to the delay and transient requirements. Experimental results on a 380V/270V 3kW CLLC converter prototype were presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed SR method.

Abstract:This paper proposes a hybrid synchronous rectification (SR) scheme for CLLC resonant converters. By combining phase tracking and current-based SR advantages, the scheme achieves separate control of turn-on and turn-off timings. The turn-on timing is determined by analyzing the maximum phase shift between primary-side voltage and secondary-side resonant current across the converter’s operating range using a fundamental approximation model (FHA) and simulations. Turn-off timing relies on comparing the SR current with a predefined threshold. Experimental results from a 6.6 kW prototype validate its reliability and stability. With the adoption of this scheme, CLLC converter efficiency is improved, and a higher SR MOSFET conduction ratio is achieved, ensuring reliable and stable SR control in various modes.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the renewable energy vehicles, pursuing the power converters with high efficiency and high reliability has caught more attention recently. In order to solve those problem with low cost, this paper proposes a sensor-less synchronous rectification method for the CLLLC resonant converters. The precise conduction time of the synchronous switches is obtained based on the analysis of the working principle of CLLLC resonant converter, and the relationship between the SRs switching time and the inverter switching time can be derived as well. To achieve the wide output voltage range, the converter requires wide working frequency. And the correct turn-on and turn-off time for the synchronous switches can be obtained respectively by calculation and piecewise linear function fitting methods within full working frequency range. Compared with traditional synchronous rectification control for CLLLC, which require additional high bandwidth voltage sensors or current sensors, the method proposed in this paper is realized by only one low-cost output voltage sensor. And the proposed method is suitable for high-power applications with a wide voltage and load variation. Moreover, because of the symmetrical topology, this method is valid in bidirectional power transfer. Additionally, the exist analog synchronous rectification control chips suffer from losing accuracy with wide bus voltage variation, however, this method can overcome this shortcoming. Thus, the proposed synchronous rectification method is a low-cost and suitable for high-power, high power density, high efficiency application which benefit from its simple algorithm. Finally, the proposed sensor-less synchronous rectification method is validated by the simulation results and experimental results. The results of simulation and experimental have shown the proposed method offers significant benefits which increases the efficiency of the whole CLLLC system by about 3%, and the reliability of the converter are greatly increased, due to the cooler SRs.

Abstract:A novel charge-retention circuit, which can deal with the issue of dead time occurring in the self-driving circuit for synchronous rectifier typically adopted on the secondary side of the following topologies: dual-switch forward converter, resonant reset forward converter, RCD reset forward converter, is presented in this paper. Comparing with the existing charge-retention driving circuit, it has the merits of simplified structure, shorter common conduction time, better immunity to interference and reduced driving loss. Finally, both the validity and practicability are verified by the experimental results.

Abstract:A novel current-driven synchronous rectifier is presented in this paper. With the help of a current sensing energy recovery circuit, the proposed current-driven synchronous rectifier can operate at high switching frequency with high efficiency. Compared with those voltage-driven synchronous rectification solutions, this current-driven synchronous rectifier has several outstanding characteristics. It can be easily applied to most switching topologies like an ideal diode. Constant gate drive voltage can be obtained regardless of line and load fluctuation. This makes it desirable in high input range application. Power converters designed with this synchronous rectifier are also capable of being connected in parallel without taking the risk of reverse power sinking. Their principle of operation is given in the paper. A series of experiments verify the analysis and demonstrate the merits.

Abstract:This paper proposed a novel control scheme for soft switching flyback converter with synchronous rectification. By only adjusting the driver signal of the primary and secondary synchronous switches with the proposed control scheme, ZVS could be realized both at low and high input within 90V-265VAC at any load line. Stead-state operation waveforms and equivalent circuits has been presented in detail, and both the analysis and the experimental results show that with the proposed control scheme, The ZVS of the primary switch could be easily achieved, and consequently a high efficiency.

Abstract:This paper begins by illustrating the issue of switch stresses on synchronous rectifiers (SRs) which happens during the hot plug-in and plug-out operation - turn on and off moment of the synchronous rectification in isolated non-regulated Dc-Dc converters, such as the single stage unregulated bus converter. Next, full analysis of the working principle of this unfavorable phenomenon is presented theoretically and experimentally. For conquering this difficulty, a novel snubber with time varying capacitor is proposed and experimentally demonstrated with detailed designing considerations and experimental results. Besides, to dig deeply into the idea exhibited from this novel method, this paper also extends the application of the novel snubber and propose many other time-varving snubber cells based on the idea with even more flexible applications. Finally, experiment results are presented to verify this idea by the improvements shown on the prototype of a 1/4 brick bus converter, which generates 12V-300W output from 48V bus input voltage.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel current driving method for the synchronous rectifier (SR) in a Flyback topology. Compared to the previous proposed Current Driven Synchronous Rectifier (CDSR), the proposed CDSR features simple structure, low power loss and good performance. With the proposed SR driving method, a 16V output 64W Flyback converter with universal AC input can achieve efficiency as high as 92.5% at low input (90V ac), full load condition.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new synchronous rectification (SR) scheme for frequency-modulated bi-directional CLLC resonant converters. By introducing a small-phase-shift between the two full-bridges and utilizing the switching transient, the proposed scheme effectively avoids the magnetizing current being provided from the low voltage side. This leads to considerable reduction in the conduction losses and current stress of the switches in a high-step-down design. Furthermore, the output voltage characteristic is analyzed using a novel mathematical model, which, comparing to the fundamental harmonic approximation method, can not only acquire a more accurate result of steady-state characteristic, but also calculate an accurate set of initial values for the passive components, which is crucial to determine the proper dead-time and phase-shift. Based on the new model, the boundaries of dead-time and phase-shift are discussed in detail. Finally, a prototype is built, and experiments are conducted to verify the principles of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:For bidirectional CLLC resonant converters, synchronous rectification (SR) is a key technique that can reduce the conduction losses in rectifying side by replacing the diodes with the switches' channel. However, existing methods suffer from either complex hardware, or incomplete and imprecise control effect. Aiming at solving these problems, this article proposes a digital sensorless SR algorithm based on the time-domain model under a hybrid modulation for CLLC converters. The proposed approach can precisely enable the SR drive action within almost the whole load range and without any additional hardware, e.g., antiparallel diode, SR IC, and high bandwidth sensor. Its implementation only needs to measure dc signals (e.g., the output current), rather than any high-frequency resonant signals. Additionally, the presented algorithm can be easily implemented on a digital controller. Finally, experiments have been performed on a prototype to verify the validity and applicability of the presented SR algorithm.

Abstract:A new ramp compensation circuit with high-accuracy was designed for synchronous rectification current mode step-down DC-DC converter,in which main switch on-resistance was used as current sensing resistor.To prevent simultaneous conduction of main switch and synchronous switch,a certain amount of dead time was adopted,after which the inductor would be charged immediately.At this point,the synchronous switch also discharged its drain parasitic capacitance,which resulted in current sensing error.The novel ramp compensation circuit,which was designed to solve the problem,is easy to implement,and the slope was flexibly adjustable.
