The Construction of the Privacy Protection Mechanism in Virtual Reference Service

Abstract:The privacy of users involved in the virtual reference service includes: the private information of the registration, the dynamic information of research projects carried out by users, the leaking private information in the cooperative virtual reference service, and so on . The construction of privacy protection mechanism in the virtual reference services should be carried out from the following aspects: the library should cooperate with the manufacturer of the virtual reference software; the library should make the regulations to protect users' privacy in the virtual reference service; laws and regulations should be made to provide guarantee for the privacy of users; the library should guide and standardize the behavior of users' privacy protection; self-discipline should be strengthened to improve the trust of the library information service; the protection of technology should be paid attention to in order to build a reliable barrier for the privacy of users; users education should be carried out to enhance self-protection awareness and capacity of users; the protection of privacy should be restricted.
