Abstract:The urban water supply pipeline network is an important infrastructure for the survival and development of cities, and its leak problem has long lacked efficient detection methods. Existing leak detection methods mainly have limitations in micro-leakage detection and large-scale deployment and are susceptible to environmental interference. This work presents an urban water supply pipeline leak detection method based on flexible piezoelectric sensors. The flexibility of the thin film sensor allows it to be directly attached to curved pipe walls, enabling in-situ monitoring of local leakages. The acquired vibration leakage signals are further processed, and a support vector machine (SVM) algorithm is used to classify leakage conditions to various levels with a high accuracy of more than 95%.

Application on Ultra-Shallow 3D Seismic Exploration Technology

Abstract:In order to investigate the application effect of ultra shallow 3D seismic exploration method under the noisy environment of urban condition,an ultra shallow 3D seismic survey was carried out to testify a subway tunnel under a traffic road in Shanghai,China.The ultra shallow 3D seismic data was collected using a kind of special 3D seismic data acquisition layout with dense shots and the seismic data acquisition efficiency was increased.Then the seismic data processing software named Omega was used to process the 3D ultra shallow seismic data.The main processing methods included Band-pass filter,F-X domain Linear noise suppress,amplitude compensation,de-convolution,velocity analysis,CDP stack and so on.At last,the 3D seismic dataset was displayed and analyzed using the 3D visual software.The results show that the seismic reflection event of interface between ultra shallow stratums can be seen from stack profiles.Moreover,the distribution of the subsurface subway tunnel can be identified from ultra-shallow 3D seismic investigation.

Abstract:Using GIS, network and database technologies, Beijing underground pipeline information system is established. After detailed analysis of the actuality and specialty of the present underground pipeline database managed by Beijing Institute of Surveying and Mapping (BISM), the paper systematically presents the studying purpose, meanings and primary contents. According to the study of pipeline data features, a spatio-temporal pipeline database classified by pipeline types is built. Based on the database, the urban underground pipeline information system is designed and developed by BISM, which unifies data from planning department and other departments, realizing modernized managements of underground pipeline data input, management, analysis and output.

Abstract:As the "lifeline" of urban operation, buried pipelines play an essential role in modern society. Due to the lack of comprehensive pipeline information, pipeline damage accidents often occur in urban construction. This article proposes a ground-penetrating radar (GPR)-based mapping method, including image processing and target detection technique, which applies to underground pipeline networks. The main process of this method is to pre-process the echo data by reasonably arranging the measurement line, fit the hyperbola to extract the peak vertex, and finally fit multiple detection points to realize the pipeline distribution fitting. An innovative fitting method based on random sample consensus (RANSAC) and the -means++ algorithm was proposed for GPR testing. The buried depth was estimated and combined with the fitting results to map the underground pipeline network distribution. The effectiveness of the proposed innovative pipeline fitting method was verified through numerical simulation. Then, in situ experiments were conducted on single and multiple pipelines. The numerical and experimental results show that the proposed method can accurately locate buried pipes and effectively reconstruct the direction distribution of underground pipeline networks.

Abstract:In the process of the continuous construction of underground pipelines, underground pipe network systems have become increasingly complex, which puts forward higher requirements for normal operation and maintenance. To address different kinds of complex conditions, this experiment in the present paper takes ground penetrating radar as the research basis and uses a self-correction and screening algorithm to innovatively detect underground pipelines. The results show that urban underground pipeline detection technology based on ground penetrating radar (GPR) can obtain a highly reliable number of pipelines and track predefined pipelines when detecting different numbers of verification pipelines. When detecting underground pipelines in different sections, the vertical and horizontal errors are no more than 0.199 m and 0.248 m, respectively, which means that the detection technology of urban underground pipelines based on GPR has high detection accuracy and can be performed on high-level detection tasks under various complex conditions. This research applies bottom detection radar to urban underground pipeline detection technology under complex conditions for the first time, innovatively uses the action mechanism of bottom detection radar, integrates its high precision and high efficiency into underground pipeline detection technology, and ensures the effectiveness of the detection work.

Abstract:Maintaining and upgrading underground pipelines are major undertakings in urban operations, where accurately locating buried pipelines has long been an issue. In this article, we propose a pipeline mapping method based on integrating multipositional pipeline data, which includes the multisensor data acquisition (MDA) platform and the scalable probability-based pipeline mapping (SP-PM) model. To effectively collect pipeline data at multiple positions, several pipeline detecting and positioning sensors are equipped in the MDA platform. Different types of sensor data are synchronously collected and processed to obtain manageable pipeline data at multiple positions within the detected area, such as the radius, depth, and positioned points of underground pipelines. The SP-PM model is then proposed, where the obtained pipeline data are probabilistically described and classified into classes. Each class contains the pipeline data possibly generated by the same pipeline. The classified data are then iteratively integrated to estimate the pipeline map with the maximum probability. The SP-PM model probabilistically estimates the degree of correlation between the multipositional pipeline data and each potential pipeline, and it has no strict requirement on existing statutory records or limits on the number of detections per pipeline. Unrecorded pipelines could be identified and involved into the generated pipeline map, along with continuous adjusting of the pipelines' number. We conducted experiments on real-world environments. The experimental results verify the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method for buried pipeline mapping.

Abstract:Underground pipeline mapping is important in urban construction. There are few specific procedures and approaches to map underground pipelines using ground penetration radar (GPR) without knowing the number of buried pipelines. In this paper, an automatic pipeline mapping model, the Dirichlet Process Pipeline Mapping Model (DPPMM), is introduced with GPR and Global Position System (GPS) data as input. By combining the GPR and GPS the position, direction, depth and size of pipelines could be estimated. The number of buried pipelines in the detection site could be automatically estimated with the benefit of DPPMM, without any prior knowledge. By adopting this model, the probabilities of each survey point belonging to each pipeline are calculated, and the pipeline directions and locations are also estimated. The experimental results demonstrate that this model could obtain more accurate pipeline maps than other state-ofthe-art algorithms in various experimental settings.

Abstract:The operation of a modern city is inseparable from the underground pipelines, and mapping the buried pipelines has long been addressed as an issue. In this paper, a novel model is proposed to map the underground pipelines by taking GPR and GPS data as the input, and output the pipeline map of the detected area. Firstly, the GPR data is processed, a coordinate system of the detected area is established, and the input and output of mapping the buried pipelines are normalized. After that, the initial pipeline map with the number of buried pipelines are determined, and then the proposed mod-el calculates the probability of which nearby pipe generates the pipeline information obtained at each detected point, classifies de-tected points into different classes, and connects and fit multiple detected points in each class to obtain the pipeline map of the de-tected area. Experiments on real-world datasets are conducted, of which the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our model.

Abstract:With the rapid development of urbanization in China, the number and size of underground space development projects are increasing quickly. At the same time, more and more accidents are causing underground construction to increasingly become a focus of social attention. Therefore, this research presents a real-time safety early warning system to prevent accidents and improve safety management in underground construction, based on the “internet of things” (IoT) technology. The proposed system seamlessly integrates a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor system and a RFID (radio frequency identification)-based labor tracking system. This system has been validated and verified through a real-world application at the cross passage construction site in the Yangtze Riverbed Metro Tunnel project in Wuhan, China. The system's application results show that it can effectively promote underground construction safety management efficiency, specifically in the real time detection, monitoring and early warning of safety risks.

Abstract:The urban underground space has rapidly developed.Because of the difficult recovery and estimation,the underground space planning has received increasing attention.However,the traditional 2D planning techniques are difficult to describe the complex underground geological and environmental information.3D GIS technology provides a better method to solve this issue.Based on the analysis of urban underground space planning,the three-dimensional GIS technology and its conceivable role in the underground space planning are analyzed.A design of 3D supporting information system is put forward for the underground space planning,focusing on its architecture and subsystems integrated solutions.
Tripartite Social Roles of Urban Underground Pipeline Informatization in China

Abstract:Urban underground pipelines (UUPs) are critical infrastructure, and their safe operation has become a key concern in Chinese society. Currently, the tripartite social roles of the local people's government, pipeline management departments, and the public are crucial in the informatization of urban underground pipelines. In this study, a survey was conducted among 126 professionals and technical personnel involved in underground pipeline informatization across eight cities in different regions of China. A quantitative weighted evaluation model was established using the Project Quantitative Index (PQI) and principal component analysis (PCA) to investigate the value of the tripartite aforementioned social groups in UUP informatization. The results indicate: (1) There is a significant positive correlation between the tripartite social roles and the promotion of UUP informatization. Moreover, the indicators with the highest PQI value are "Establishment of UUP informatization management departments" and "Support the work of the UUP informatization industry association" under the role of the local people's government. (2) The informatization work of underground pipelines in different cities is affected differently by the tripartite social roles. This suggests that the local people's government and professional management departments in different cities can proactively leverage their unique advantages in UUP informatization based on their specific circumstances. (3) PCA results showed that the indicators related to the public carried significant weight, indicating that the public also played an important role in UUP informatization. The degree of UUP informatization in the eight studied cities is ranked as follows: Guangzhou > Beijing > Qingdao > Kunming > Shanghai > Chengdu > Wuhan > Sian. This paper further discusses the unique roles and contributions of the tripartite social groups in UUP informatization, aiming to provide decision support for the future construction, management, and safe operation and maintenance of urban underground pipelines in China.

Abstract:During the process of urban development, there is large‐scale laying of underground pipeline networks and coordinated operation of both new and old networks. The underground concrete drainage pipes have become a focus of operation and maintenance due to their strong concealment and serious corrosion. The current manual inspections for subterranean concrete drainage pipelines involve high workloads and risks, which makes meeting the diagnostic needs of intricate urban pipeline networks challenging. Through advanced information technology, it has reached a consensus to intelligently perceive, accurately identify, and precise prediction of the condition of urban subterranean drainage networks. The development process of detection and evaluation methods for underground concrete drainage pipe networks is the focus of this study. The study discusses common algorithms for classifying, locating, and quantifying pipeline defects by combining the principles of deep learning with typical application examples. The intelligent progression of information collection methods, image processing techniques, damage prediction models, and pipeline diagnostic systems is systematically elaborated upon. Lastly, prospects for future research of intelligent pipeline diagnosis are provided.

Abstract:There is a need to map underground pipelines due to nonavailable existing pipeline maps caused by poor management of statutory records and insufficient updating of documentation whenever pipeline construction or rerouting occurs. By fusing multisource data, a novel method to map underground pipelines is proposed in this article. Statutory records of the underground pipelines are converted into the initial pipeline map. Pipeline information obtained from manhole covers and remote sensing technologies are normalized into the pipeline dataset composed of detected points. The probabilistic pipeline mapping model (PPMM) is then proposed to map the buried pipelines from the conducted pipeline dataset, with or without statutory pipeline records. In this model, each detected point is classified into the specific pipeline that most likely generates the data of this point, and detected points generated from the same pipeline are fit to revise the pipelines' locations and directions. The above classification and fitting operations are performed iteratively, and PPMM would output the pipeline map with the highest probability. Experimental studies on real-world datasets are conducted and analyzed, and the obtained results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:In the process of urbanization and industrialization in China, the dependence and demand for underground pipelines are increasing, but a series of catastrophic accidents of underground pipeline have occurred in recent years. Therefore, it is urgent to emphasize the study on pipe-soil interaction and failure mechanism. In this paper, based on the quasi-distributed fiber Bragg grating(FBG)technology, a series of plane-strain model tests are conducted in laboratory. The fiber optic strain sensors are employed to investigate stress and deformation characteristics of buried pipes under the action of surface loading. A calculation method of earth pressures around the pipe is proposed based on fiber optic strain measurements. Meanwhile, the particle image velocimetry(PIV)technique is used to obtain the soil deformation around the pipe. Such deformation results are compared to the fiber optic monitoring results. The test results show that the FBG technology can effectively capture the distribution of earth pressure acting on the buried pipe and the evolution of soil strains. The deformation and failure patterns of soil are quite different for pipes with various burial depths. With the increase of burial depth, the soil arching effect becomes more significant. The conclusions drawn in this paper provide useful reference for evaluating underground pipeline hazards and improving monitoring and early warning levels.

Abstract:Submarine pipelines are important resource delivery devices between land and ocean. For safety reasons, pipelines are often embedded beneath the seabed at a certain depth, to reduce the risk of direct damage to the pipeline. In the past, various kinds of detection equipment have been used for pipeline inspection, to ensure the normal operation of pipelines in practical applications. Acoustic detection technology is the dominant method to monitor buried submarine pipelines. Extracting and integrating the information in acoustic images, such as the route and burial depth, can help to monitor the status of a pipeline. However, most of the existing methods are based on limited parameters, and they cannot be used to precisely detect and locate a submarine pipeline under complex conditions. In this study, a multi-sensor surveying system was used, which integrates a sub-bottom profiler (SBP) and the Shipborne Over- and Under-Water Integrated Mobile Mapping System (SiOUMMS) on the same ship. The data acquired in this system include acoustic profile images and the over- and under-water topography of the pipeline route area. We also designed a position deviation correction method to improve the accuracy of the pipeline detection positioning, i.e., pipeline positioning correction in the real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning data and pipeline horizontal route correction in the integrated data. Compared with the uncorrected pipeline detection positioning result, the reliability of the pipeline inspection result is greatly improved, and the effectiveness and merit of the proposed method are clearly demonstrated. Finally, we conducted a buried pipeline safety assessment for the installation of newly designed wharf piles at Mawan Port of Shenzhen, China, where the results showed that one of the first rows of wharf piles would collide with the sewage pipeline.

Abstract:Automatic monitoring system is one of the main means to ensure the safety of underground engineering construction. This paper summarizes the current international research and application status of the underground engineering monitoring system from three aspects of data acquisition, data transmission, and data processing and emphatically introduces the mainstream new technology of the monitoring system. Furthermore, this paper puts forward specific and implementable technical routes based on the current intelligent technology and the challenges faced by future monitoring, which can provide direction and reference for future research, including high-precision real-time acquisition and safe and reliable transmission of monitoring data, multisource data fusion, and the visual intelligent early warning platform.

Abstract:The research on the map construction of pipeline environment is of great significance for the location of pipeline network, pipeline network planning and pipeline maintenance. It is an important development direction of underground pipeline detection technology to use robot to carry detection equipment into the pipeline to complete fault detection. In this paper, we propose a method of multi-robot collaborative mapping based on decentralized exploration and centralized mapping. The robot describes the pipeline information in the manner designed in this paper. The upper master gets the pipeline map information through single robot and then describes it by using geometry topology method. The simulation results shows that the final pipeline map are consistent with the actual pipeline map.
