Abstract:PURPOSE: To investigate effective factors of soccer special fitness, characteristics of metabolism for scientific training of elite youth soccer players. METHODS: Soccer special fitness parameters, maximal velocity (Vm) and average velocity (Va) with designated exercise load, final average velocity (Vf), and total sprint numbers (N) were determined in 30-meter repeated sprints. A special fitness index (SFI) was calculated (SFI = N/Vf). Compared general aerobic capacity parameters, maximal oxygen uptake (), maximal oxygen uptake in unit weight mass (/kg), maximal exhaust (VEmax), oxygen pulse (O2pulse), anaerobic threshold (AT) and oxygen equivalent (EQO2), the relationships between SFI and general aerobic capacity were analyzed through correlation test. RESULTS: The comprehensive analysis indicates: (1) 30-meter repeated sprints is a novel method to evaluate soccer special fitness because SFI is correlated with /kg, AT and EQO2 (r = 0.566, 0.448, 0.546 and 0.594, P < 0.01) and significantly correlated with O2pulse (r = 0.863, P < 0.001); (2) SFI reflects the ATP-phosphocreatine energy supply because SFI is correlated with Vm and Va (r = 0.808 and 0.34, P < 0.001 and P < 0.05); (3) glycolysis is not an important pathway for soccer specific fitness due to without obvious correlations between SFI and hemolactate at designated load and fatigue status (r = 0.005); (4) general aerobic capacity can not substitute specific aerobic capacity because of lower correlation coefficients between and SFI (r = 0.566) than COOPER 12-mintue running and PALIER method (r = 0.90 and 0.94). CONCLUSIONS: The 30-meter repeated sprints are a novel and practical method for soccer special fitness evaluation to guide scientific selection and specific fitness training, and investigate special aerobic capacity theories in elite soccer players.
