Abstract:The paper briefly reviews the history of restoration of abandoned mining zones in China and in foreign coun- tries.By borrowing the experiences from excellent cases of art parks and scenic parks in developed countries,a tentative plan is proposed to build eco-art parks on feasible abandoned mining zones in China,which can include themes of"land art +tour in industrial and mining area+scenic park+art park".A case study is made on an abandoned mining zone in west Beijing to demonstrate visually the concept of building an eco-art park.The eco-art park mode aims to renovate the function and application of the industry establishments in the abandoned mining zones through ecological design and vision design,hereby helping mining cities gradually realize a favorable economic,social and cultural cycle in the economic type transfer process.

Abstract:Construction of urban waterscape parks based on ecological concepts and functions is becoming the tendency of modern urban parks. Unfortunately, there are no suitable evaluation systems for these parks. This study establishes a comprehensive evaluation system for a landscape and its functions via the analytic hierarchy process and the comprehensive index method. The evaluation model consisted of 3 evaluation indexes and 23 evaluation indicators relevant to the landscape characteristics of Houtan Park of the World Exposition 2010 Shanghai, China. The evaluation indicators were monitored from 2006 to 2010, and the results of the investigation led to the following conclusions: the park fulfills a range of desirable functions, and ranks high in aesthetic, economic and societal values; ecological functions were applied well within the landscape, and following ecological restoration and the construction of a functional aquatic ecosystem, the water quality of Houtan River has been continuously purified from inferior class V~ class V to class III~ class I range, while the heavy metals in the sediment were improved from inferior class V~ class V to class I; the biodiversity was improved from 0.72 into 1.49; and the results for other indicators were improved overall. In general, the comprehensive score of the evaluation increased from 1.227 to 4.341. Although minor problems remain to be solved, the results indicate that the design concept and construction methods applied in Houtan Park are well applicable to sustainable landscapes, and the evaluation system as a whole can be extended and applied in similar cases.

Abstract:The China World Expo 2010 Shanghai is the first one in World Expos'150 years history to use "city" as its theme. The Expo site of selected at both riversides of Huangpu River, edging the central urban area of Shanghai with a planned land whose control area totals 6.68 km2. The site planning and design tried to experiment the future of cities with main issues like conservation of urban cultural heritage, eco-technologies of urbanism and green buildings, as well as urban harmony in an era of globalization and World urbanization. The whole side of Shanghai Expo is planned and designed as to interpreter and develop the theme "better city, better life", while the urban challenges and trends will be discussed and demonstrated.

Abstract:The 8-thousand-year history of cities is a history of human civilization development as well as a history of urban development standing ajainst nature. If pre-industrial society and industrialized society can continue to develop in such way, since globalizing urbanization level now goes beyond 50%, such anti-nature cities have to come to an end , or this planet can not accommodate more population in these cities. Human-beings have only two choices :to stop urbanization at present state, or to find an alternative way to create 'better city' for' better life'.The 2010 Shanghai World Expo is the first one in a history of 150 -year Expos to use "city" as its theme, whose planning and design is based on the philosophy of'Harmonious City' guided by'three harmonies' - 'harmony between human-beings and nature', 'harmony between human-beings and society', 'harmony between history and future'. Being the rehearsal of 'Harmonious City', the Shanghai World Expo will exhibit the exploration of human-beings to create a future 'Harmonious City'.

Abstract:Shanghai World Expo is a stage to show modern scientific achievements,and greening technologies should also be part of it. Abstract:The goal of this thesis is research to ecological landscape design of Xi' an International Exposition Park,which emphasized on concept,culture,ecology and recreation,and construct interactive,open,flexible,rich and colorful design ways and strategies. The dissertation uses reference of documents,case study and many investigation and survey,then analyses the system of ecological landscape design of Xi' an International Exposition Park. The study of objects,ways and results of ecological landscape design of Xi' an International Exposition Park,finds this design could have capacity of connecting nature with culture,nature with entertainment,and culture with entertainment,then create a new and ecological landscape pattern of urban park. The ecological landscape design of Xi'an International Exposition Park focuses on the process of nature and ecological sustainability,the scheme,which provides inclusivity and flexibility,would bridge the gap between landscape and architecture.

Abstract:An ecological planning approach for Shanghai Expo 2010 was constructed based on "overlay-maps" model, and the ecological elements and GIS visualization in Shanghai Expo 2010 area were investigated and analyzed from the aspects of human comfort degree, life health, and sustainable utilization of resources. This approach included the determination of objectives for ecological planning, the selection and in situ investigation of ecological elements, the construction of eco-database, and the integrative analysis of GIS visualization, being indispensable for the prior period research of ecological planning of Expo area. Based on the present situation of soil pollution in the Expo area, a tentative scheme of soil restoration and utilization was brought forward, with the concerns of green space demand and soil secondary pollution avoidance. To protect the wild life habitats in Expo area, a demarcation of conservation areas for plants and original landscape was made. A conception of using landscape elements to optimize air temperature, humidity, and ventilation in the process of urban design was proposed, aimed to promote the human comfort degree under tropical monsoon conditions.

Abstract:The sustainable development of the urban environmental landscape is a process that integrates resource utilization, ecological benefit, economy, and society and involves elements of culture, society, politics, economy, and individual residents. Citizen participation is increasingly important for the urban landscape design, and therefore, urban environmental landscape studies must be evaluated objectively by the public to ensure both sustainable development and social justice. In this study, the Tao Sichuan Creative Industry Park (the former "Universe Porcelain Factory") in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, China, was taken as example, and the implemented landscape reconstruction was evaluated. The analytical hierarchy process was used to collect both expert and public opinions regarding the cultural landscape; then, the weight coefficient of the value index layer of the industrial heritage park was obtained. A comparison of the two groups (experts and the public) showed that the experts do not exactly agree with the perspective of the public: experts prefer the artistic value far more than any other factors, while the public prefers the artistic value, social value, and economic value. Each group prefers different values of the landscape, suggesting that environmental justice should not be biased toward one of these perspectives. Finally, a design optimization principle is proposed according to the results of this study. This principle strengthens the sustainable development concept in the landscape reconstruction of industrial heritage parks, and suggestions are provided for optimizing the allocation of urban public landscape resources.

Abstract:The paper first reviews the planning process of the 2010 Shanghai Expo site,including theme and site selection,conceptualization of the planning ideas, implementation of planning,detailed control plan,negotiations involved in the construction and producing of building drawings and publicized schemes,adjustment stage,modifications after the opening ceremony and three major issues-topic selection, analysis,and solutions.The paper then goes on to discuss the future impact of 2010 World Expo on the understanding and channeling of urbanization processes, on urban culture,on the experiment onpositive eco-city,and on new mode of urban development.At the end,the paper argues that planning technology will become a key area of development within the planning discipline.A key issue in planning is to solve the conflicts between cities and the earth and only a good urbanist can become a good planner.

Abstract:The World Expo 2010 will be held in Shanghai, which theme is "BETTER CITY BETTER LIFE". According to the program, large-scale underground space constructions will be built in the Expo Park. For their features that huge investments and non-disassembly, it needs more complex study and planning to satisfy various demand both during and after the Expo. This paper mainly focus on the following aspects: The logical scope of underground space constructions in Expo Park; the Expo Park's underground planning; Re-use of the underground infrastructure facilities by post expo. In conclusion it will be shown that: put the ecological infrastructure facilities underground can not only form a positive cycle of energy utilization, but also a effective way to make the Park ecology, compact and sustainable development. The World Expo underground urban complexes will be connected together to form regional public transit transferring hub and commercial center by post Expo.

Abstract:The design of the Zhongshan Garden in 2011 Chongqing Garden & Flower EXPO,carries out a thorough study of the urban culture of Zhongshan city,the spirit of Zhongshan Garden,and the characteristics of the Zhongshan Garden's location, three major themes of Zhongshan Garden are finally focused- universal fraternity, Chrysanthemum,and Lingnan.This paper elaborates the design concepts of simplicity, spirit of sites,and inheritance of the traditions and proposes the design method of geometric plane composition,dynamic exhibition space,employing enframed scenery and borrow scenery to highlight the regional culture.At last,it makes conclusions on the design of Zhongshan Garden.
