Social Network Analysis of Evolution of Industrial Network in Northwestern China

Abstract:The evolution analysis and comparison study of regional industrial network were the important bases for the industrial structure to be improved and updated continuously,which to some extent,could explain the economic development from the perspective of function determined by the structure. This paper constructed the industrial network of five provinces of northwestern China through applying the method of social network analysis( SNA),based on the input- output table in this area during the year 2002- 2007. Particularly,this paper computed the characteristic path length,the clustering coefficient,the network density,the centrality,and the core- periphery structure,and then drew the visual network structure topological graph. Furtherly,this paper analyzed and compared the industrial structure and network of five provinces of northwestern China according to above results. It demonstrated that the industrial network of this area was a small- world network,of which labor- intensive industry and resource- integrated industry had the high centrality and played an important role in the network,but the industrial structure turned to be optimization of the development as time changes. Finally,we found all the networks had an obvious core- periphery structure,and they were imbalanced.
