The Source of Agglomeration Economies——Evidence from Firm Level Data

Abstract:This paper based on the world bank in 2003 China enterprise survey report 16 city,to the textile clothing industry and electronic equipment manufacturing whether there are local economic and urban economic empirical analysis,and using the method of direct estimates production function judge two is representative of the manufacturing industry agglomeration economy source,that is the externalities of agglomeration economics come from the same industry or different ones.I analyze two representative industries:labor-intensive garment manufacturing and capital-intensive electronic equipment manufacturing.The dynamic panel estimation techniques is used to overcome the inherent endogeneity problem.The estimation results find significant intra-industry externalities in both industries.However,only in the electronic manufacturing I find firms can benefit diversified industries in the local economy.
