Abstract:Analyzing chromatic number in coloring problem is a tough topic in graph analysis. We focus on the basic theory for a particular type of chromatic number. This will give us insights on the basic topological structure guiding lots of networks in the coming trend of big data era. An adjacent vertex-distinguishing total k-coloring is a proper total k-coloring of a graph G such that for any two adjacent vertices, the set of colors appearing on the vertex and its incident edges are different. The smallest k for which such a coloring of G exists is called the adjacent vertex-distinguishing total chromatic number, and denoted by ?at(G). It has been proved that if the graph G satisfies ?(G)=3, then ?at(G)= 6. However, it is very difficult to determine whether ?at(G)= 5. In this paper, we focus on a special class of 3-regular graphs, the generalized Petersen graphs P(n, k), and show that ?at(P(n, k)) = 5, which improves the bound ?at (P(n, k))= 6.

Abstract:An acyclic $k$-coloring of a graph $G$ is a $k$-coloring of its vertices such that no cycle of $G$ is bichromatic. $G$ is called acyclically $k$-colorable if it admits an acyclic $k$-coloring. In this paper, we prove that the generalized Petersen graph $P(n,k)$ is acyclically 3-colorable except $P(4,1)$ and the classical Petersen graph $P(5,2)$.

Abstract:Let $G=(V(G),E(G))$ be a simple connected and undirected graph with vertex set $V(G)$ and edge set $E(G)$. A set $S \subseteq V(G)$ is a $dominating$ $set$ if for each $v \in V(G)$ either $v \in S$ or $v$ is adjacent to some $w \in S$. That is, $S$ is a dominating set if and only if $N[S]=V(G)$. The domination number $\gamma(G)$ is the minimum cardinalities of minimal dominating sets. In this paper, we give an improved upper bound on the domination number of generalized Petersen graphs $P(ck,k)$ for $c\geq 3$ and $k\geq 3$. We also prove that $\gamma(P(4k,k))=2k+1$ for even $k$, $\gamma(P(5k,k))=3k$ for all $k\geq 1$, and $\gamma(P(6k,k))=\lceil\frac{10k}{3}\rceil$ for $k\geq 1$ and $k\neq 2$.

Abstract:The star chromatic index of a graph $G$, denoted by $\chi^\prime_s(G)$, is the smallest integer $k$ for which $G$ admits a proper edge coloring with $k$ colors such that every path and cycle of length four is not bicolored. Let $d$ be the greatest common divisor of $n$ and $k$. Zhu~et~al. (\footnotesize{Discussiones Mathematicae: Graph Theory, 41(2): 1265, 2021}) showed that for every integers $k$ and $n> 2k$ with $d\geq 3$, generalized Petersen graph $GP(n,k)$ admits a 5-star edge coloring, with the exception of the case that $d = 3$, $k\neq d$ and $\frac{n}{3}= 1\pmod{3}$. Also, they conjectured that for every $n>2k$, $\chi^\prime_s(GP(n,k))\leq 5$, except $GP(3,1)$. In this paper, we prove that for every $GP(n,k)$ with $n\geq 2k$ and $d\geq 3$ their conjecture is true. In fact, we provide a 5-star edge coloring of $GP(n,k)$, where $n\geq 2k$ and $d\geq 3$. We also obtain some results for 5-star edge coloring of $GP(n,k)$ with $d=2$. Moreover, Dvo{ř}{á}k et al. ({\footnotesize Journal of Graph Theory, 72(3):313-326, 2013}) conjectured that the star of chromatic index of subcubic graphs is at most 6. Thus, our results also prove this conjecture for the generalized Petersen graphs, as a class of subcubic graphs.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the ( d , 1 ) -total labelling of generalized Petersen graphs P ( n , k ) for d ≥ 3 . We find that the ( d , 1 ) -total number of P ( n , k ) with d ≥ 3 is d + 3 for even n and odd k or even n and k = n 2 , and d + 4 for all other cases.

Abstract:For H subset of G, the anti-Ramsey number ar(G, H) is the maximum number of colors in an edge-coloring of G such that each subgraph isomorphic to H has at least two edges in the same color. The study of anti-Ramsey number ar(K-n,H) was introduced by Erclos et al. in 1973, and plentiful results were researched for some special graph H. Later, the problem was extended to ar(G, H) when replacing K-n by other graph G such as hypergraph, complete split graph, regular bipartite graph, triangulation and so on. In this paper, we consider a generalized Petersen graph P-n,P-k as the host graph and determine the exact anti-Ramsey numbers for cycles C-5 and C-6 in P-n,P-k, respectively. (C) 2022 Elsevier Inc. Abstract:The packing chromatic number $\chi_{\rho}(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the smallest integer $k$ such that the vertex set of $G$ can be partitioned into sets $\Pi_1,\ldots,\Pi_k$, where $\Pi_i$, $i\in [k]$, is an $i$-packing. The following conjecture is posed and studied: if $G$ is a subcubic graph, then $\chi_{\rho}(S(G))\le 5$, where $S(G)$ is the subdivision of $G$. The conjecture is proved for all generalized prisms of cycles. To get this result it is proved that if $G$ is a generalized prism of a cycle, then $G$ is $(1,1,2,2)$-colorable if and only if $G$ is not the Petersen graph. The validity of the conjecture is further proved for graphs that can be obtained from generalized prisms in such a way that one of the two $n$-cycles in the edge set of a generalized prism is replaced by a union of cycles among which at most one is a 5-cycle. The packing chromatic number of graphs obtained by subdividing each of its edges a fixed number of times is also considered.

Abstract:Let γr2(G) be the 2-rainbow domination number of a graph G. In our work, we solve an open question for 2-rainbow domination number of general Petersen graphs P(n,k). In addition, we proved that γr2(P(n,k))=n for n≤12, γr2(P(n,1))=n for n≥5, and γr2(P(2k+2,k))=2k+2 for k≥2.

Abstract:A graph $G$ is said to be distance-balanced if for any edge $uv$ of $G$, the number of vertices closer to $u$ than to $v$ is equal to the number of vertices closer to $v$ than to $u$. Let $GP(n,k)$ be a generalized Petersen graph. Jerebic, Klavžar, and Rall [Distance-balanced graphs, Ann. Comb. 12 (2008) 71–79] conjectured that: For any integer $k\geq 2$, there exists a positive integer $n_0$ such that the $GP(n,k)$ is not distance-balanced for every integer $n\geq n_0$. In this note, we give a proof of this conjecture.

Abstract:A graph is a core or unretractive if all its endomorphisms are automorphisms. Well-known examples of cores include the Petersen graph and the graph of the dodecahedron—both generalized Petersen graphs. We characterize the generalized Petersen graphs that are cores. A simple characterization of endomorphism-transitive generalized Petersen graphs follows. This extends the characterization of vertex-transitive generalized Petersen graphs due to Frucht, Graver, and Watkins and solves a problem of Fan and Xie. Moreover, we study generalized Petersen graphs that are (underlying graphs of) Cayley graphs of monoids. We show that this is the case for the Petersen graph, answering a recent mathoverflow question, for the Desargues graphs, and for the Dodecahedron—answering a question of Knauer and Knauer. Moreover, we characterize the infinite family of generalized Petersen graphs that are Cayley graphs of a monoid with generating connection set of size two. This extends Nedela and Škoviera's characterization of generalized Petersen graphs that are group Cayley graphs and complements results of Hao, Gao, and Luo.

Abstract:A total weighting of a graph $G$ is a mapping $\phi$ that assigns a weight to each vertex and each edge of $G$. The vertex-sum of $v \in V(G)$ with respect to $\phi$ is $S_{\phi}(v)=\sum_{e\in E(v)}\phi(e)+\phi(v)$. A total weighting is proper if adjacent vertices have distinct vertex-sums. A graph $G=(V,E)$ is called $(k,k')$-choosable if the following is true: If each vertex $x$ is assigned a set $L(x)$ of $k$ real numbers, and each edge $e$ is assigned a set $L(e)$ of $k'$ real numbers, then there is a proper total weighting $\phi$ with $\phi(y)\in L(y)$ for any $y \in V \cup E$. In this paper, we prove that the generalized Petersen graphs are $(1,3)$-choosable.

Abstract:For given graphs H1,...,Hk, k≥2, the k-color Ramsey number R(H1,...,Hk) is the smallest integer N such that every k-coloring of the edges of a complete graph KN contains a monochromatic copy of Hi colored in i, for some i with 1≤i≤k. Let Cℓ,K1,m and Pn denote a cycle of length ℓ, a star of order m+1 and a path of order n, respectively. In this paper, it is shown that R(C4,K1,m,Pn)≤m+n−1+⌈m+n−2⌉ for all m,n≥2 and R(C4,K1,m,Pn)≤m+n−2+⌈m+n−2⌉ if m+n=ℓ2+3 and ℓ≥1. Moreover, by discussing the local structure of the polarity graph whose vertices are points in the projective plane over Galois fields, we show that the two upper bounds can be attained for some special m and n. These results also extend some known results on R(C4,K1,m) obtained by Parsons in 1975 and by Zhang et al. recently.

In this paper, we determine the exact anti-Ramsey number in the generalized Petersen graph $P_{n,k}$ for cycles $C_d$, where $1\leq k\leq \lfloor \frac{n-1}{2} \rfloor$ and $5\le d \le 6$. We also give an algorithm to obtain the upper bound or lower bound of anti-Ramsey number.
