Abstract:Delivering drinking water from water treatment plants (WTPs) to customer taps results in significant energy consumption and water loss due to leakage. The energy consumption involved in this process includes both the energy used in the water distribution networks (WDNs) and buildings. Existing research primarily focuses on optimizing energy consumption in WDNs while ignoring the energy consumption at buildings. Building height and water supply mode are crucial factors that impact energy consumption. A building hydraulic model involving various supply modes coupled with the WDN hydraulic model is developed to calculate the energy consumption and leakage from WTPs to taps. An optimization model is then proposed to minimize expenses by placing regional pump stations (RPSs) and scheduling pumps in WTPs. The application of the proposed method to a realistic WDN resulted in a 1.17% decrease in energy consumption and a 6.98% reduction in water leakage compared to traditional methods.

Abstract:Ordinary sanitary ware causes a lot of water waste due to its high water consumption, this situation should be improved urgently. A type of vacuum water saving sanitary ware has been designed, including working principle, design of the valve and pinhole, selection of electromotor. A test has been executed to compare performances between the designed sanitary ware and an ordinary sanitary ware. The result indicates: the designed sanitary ware has almost no affinity with the dirt, and its water consumption is nearly equal to one tenth of ordinary sanitary ware's water consumption.

Abstract:In order to improve the system and coordination of urban water-saving management,the urban comprehensive water-saving management framework is proposed.The policies and planning,administrative structure,and selection of administrative means were analyzed by means of urban comprehensive water-saving management framework theory,and the existing problems related to policy formulation, management coordination mechanisms,water demand control,and non-traditional water source exploitation were revealed.Increasing the level of policy relevance and matching,enhancing the coordination between different departments,establishing an efficient water demand management system,and overall planning for various water sources are proposed.

Abstract:Through a comparative study to current water saving technology of canal seepage control, sprinkler irrigation, micro-irrigation, filtration irrigation, plastic cover irrigation, rainwater-collecting irrigation and no-full irrigation, this paper points out that the key to save water in agriculture irrigation is to reduce evapotranspiration (ET). We believe that only carrying out ET management to reduce invalid ET in agriculture water saving irrigation can we reach the purpose of real water saving and raise water use efficiency, and then realize the sustainable development of water resource step by step. On this basis, the paper does some detailed and profound discussion to the water saving techniques towards to reducing ET, and proposes a water saving technology with key points of soil moisture monitoring, micro-control technique and control programs, that is dedicated irrigation based on soil moisture. Under the premise of keeping crops growing normally, the core of this dedicated water saving measure aiming at reducing ET mainly embodies in four aspects: (1) Keeping soil moisture to carry out on-time and proper irrigation; (2) Adopting drip irrigation in order to keep soil moisture well; (3) Choosing proper time to irrigate; (4) Raising irrigating frequency along with reducing the amount of irrigating water each time.

Developing a strategic framework for adopting water-saving measures in construction projects

Abstract:The construction industry consumes substantial water resources. Thus, there is a necessity to adopt effective water-saving measures to reduce water consumption in construction projects. The aim of this paper is providing a strategic framework of water-saving measures for different phases of a construction project. To start with, the prevailing green building rating tools were investigated to explore the alternative water-saving measures. Then, a comparative analysis utilizing relative significance indexing was conducted to identify the foci of water-saving measures in various green building rating tools. Based on the derived results, ten water-saving measures, namely rainwater harvesting, usage of recycled water, NEWater, water-saving technologies, water-saving devices, water-saving efficiency, water monitoring system, monitoring of major water uses, leak detection, and continuous water monitoring, were identified. These measures were further categorized into three strategic aspects, such as water sources substitution, water consumption reduction, and water use monitoring. Based on the results, a strategic framework was developed for reducing water consumption and improving water use efficiency. The developed framework can serve as a systematic guideline for formulating water-saving schemes in different stages of construction projects.

Abstract:A water crisis has prompted the Chinese government to develop an ambitious water conservancy plan. However, the plan may not achieve water sustainability and may cause unintended environmental and socioeconomic consequences, unless it accounts for complex human-nature interactions ( 1 ). Water shortages, for example, force people to find alternatives, such as treatment facilities, whose land and energy requirements aggravate food and energy production, which need large amounts of water. Other nations face similar challenges and share real water from China along international rivers and/or virtual water through trade. Water problems are particularly challenging in China, which has the largest population, fastest-growing economy, rising water demand, relatively scarce water, dated infrastructure, and inadequate governance. We highlight China's water crisis and plan, and then offer recommendations.

Abstract:It is convenient and economical for us to use the groundwater recharge system to avoid the influence of dewater-ing. But at present, the design of recharge system still depends on experience. A design method is put forward in this paper, which has been successfully applied in the excavation of digest pool in the sewage treatment plant in Sibao, Hangzhou, with good economic and social benefits. In this practice, some conclusions are drawn, and it is hoped that this paper might serve as a reference for engineers.

Abstract:Nowadays, the demand for architecture by the public is not only a living, but also an increase in comfort and safety requirements, and more attention is paid to the design of water supply and drainage works for buildings.In recent years, the rapid development of the economy, whether it is urban or township, the degree of housing community is getting higher and higher, people's requirements for the water supply and drainage function of the building are also constantly improving, which gives the water supply and drainage project a broader development space.In this paper, the nine-story building in a certain district is taken as the research object, and the design analysis is carried out according to the relevant data of the building and the living needs of the residents to verify the feasibility.According to the four parts of water supply, drainage, fire protection and rainwater drainage, the water supply and drainage project of the building is analyzed, and the construction points are briefly given.It can effectively improve the design level and quality of the water supply and drainage system of the building, and facilitate the use of domestic water for residents.

Abstract:With the acceleration of urbanization, the demand for water supply and drainage pipe networks has increased significantly. In the planning of urban construction, it is necessary to optimize the design of the water supply and drainage system pipe network to effectively save energy while providing residents with more accessible water resources. Therefore, the municipal water supply and drainage system and the water transmission methods should be designed according to the geographical conditions of the city. In this paper, we mainly analyze the design of municipal water supply and drainage systems and the selection of water transmission methods. Besides, the optimization of the water supply and drainage network zoning process and pipe network maintenance is also discussed, so as to provide a reference for municipal water supply and drainage work.
