A Comparative Study of Polysaccharides from Tetrasporophytic and Female Gametic Thalli of Gracilaria lemaneiformis

Abstract:Polysaccharides from wild tetrasporophytic and female gametic thalli of Gracilaria lemaneiformis(denoted as TP and FGP respectively) were extracted with hot water and a comparative study was made on their chemical characteristics and structures.Their chemical compositions and molecular weights were determined.Their structures were compared by means of infrared spectrum analysis and()~(13)C-NMR spectroscopy.The results show that the sulfate content of FGP was higher than that of TP and the 3,6-anhydrogalactose content of FGP was lower than TP.The main monosaccharides of TP and FGP are galactose and 3,6-anhydrogalactose.The viscosity average molecular weights are(83?400) and 130?575,respectively.The structure analysis shows that their structures are similar.Both have the main repeating disaccharide units of(1→3)-linked β-D-galactose and(1→4)-linked 3,6-anhydro-α-L-galactose.The precursor to agarobiose is minor.
