Abstract:Ecological civilization goes far beyond a measure to address the challenges of lack of harmony and sustainability in industrial development.It is a new thinking towards elevation of the Chinese civilization,aiming at the cultural reviving of the nation.Economic development contributes only partly to the rise of the nation,and reviving of the civilization is certainly needed.Progress of civilization is both result and premise of social and economic development.The rise of the West lies in the globalization of industrial development and modern science and technology,as well as in the global influence of the western culture and civilization.Thus,it is fair to say that the rise of the West originated from the Italian Renaissance,rather than from the industrial revolution.The idea of ecological civilization finds it root in modern ecological science and in the wisdom of ecosystems.It shares many similarities to the traditional Chinese culture in spirit.Ecological civilization may serve as the elevated form of the Chinese civilization in addressing the developmental challenges facing the human beings,providing an unprecedented opportunity for cultural development of the nation and for sustainable development of the world.
