Abstract:Chen Yinke and Qian Mu,starting with mutual interpretation between poetry and history,have made great contributions to the formation of poetics.First,they give a poetic interpretation to the formation of national culture;second,they conclusively prove that romantic personality embodies the cultural idiosyncrasy in the life of a nation;third,they provide a poetic description of the beautiful spirit in Chinese culture;and fourth,they lay stress on the free spiritual experience in the history of national literature.All these provide some enlightenments to the reconstruction of contemporary poetics and axiological aesthetics.

Abstract:There is an obvious distinction between Yuewei Cottage Sketchbook(yue wei cao tang bi ji) and legendary novels.Against the amorous adventures in the theme and the excessive fabrication in the narration,Yuewei Cottage Sketchbook told the outlines of stories simply by a few words.Therefore,it was a classical work of Chinese narrative tradition.In the history of narrative literature,it could be mentioned in the same breath with Shiji,(the classical narrative work of history) and Strange Tales of Liaozhai(the classical literary work with a trend of narrative tradition).

Abstract:Focusing on the relation between the literary theory and the novels of modern Japanese writer Natsume Sōseki (1867–1916), this article argues that we need to include more ‘non-Western’ theories in the discussions of world literature. Furthermore, it concludes that a world literature contextualization of Sōseki's theory helps explain how his novels critically negotiate the influences from Western literature in Japan. By comparing Sōseki's theoretical and literary writing, this article shows continuity between his Theory of Literature and his novel Kusamakura, arguing that both question Western universality in defining literature. In other words, the comparison stresses Sōseki's continued preoccupation with understanding the transformation of literatures due to global interaction. During the modern period, such transformation was probably nowhere more conspicuous than in Meiji Japan, where not only society but also its literature was rapidly changing.

Abstract:As an outstanding representative of modern Japanese literature, Natsume Soseki has an important position in the history of modern Japanese literature. He is a world-renowned novelist who has written many excellent novels. However, it is far from enough to study Natsume Soseki's literature only from the aspects of novels. Throughout Natsume Soseki's life, he studied Chinese studies since childhood, has great enthusiasm and interest in Chinese literature, and has a high accomplishment in Chinese literature. However, his outstanding ability in Chinese poetry was covered up by his writing ability in novels, which did not get the attention of the academic circle. Natsume Soseki's Chinese poems are in the same vein as Chinese poems, and he draws on and learns from ancient Chinese poems in the aspects of creation techniques and theme emotions. From the perspective of cultural studies, this paper makes an in-depth study of the relationship between Natsume Soseki's Chinese poetry and ancient Chinese poetry by means of comparative study. On the basis of previous studies, this paper expounds Natsume Soseki's Chinese poetry creation and its sinology origin, analyzes and summarizes the Chinese elements in his Chinese poetry works, in order to explore Natsume Soseki's contribution to the cross-communication field of Chinese poetry between China and Japan.

Abstract:Supernatural writing, anchored in a long literary tradition, is a common narrative technique in ancient Chinese novels. Taking the novels of gifted scholars and beautiful ladies by Tianhuacang Zhuren as an example, the supernatural writing phenomena can be categorized into three types: dreams, extraordinary encounters, and visions. Supernatural writing plays a crucial role in plot construction, narrative progression, character development, and spatial expansion in novels. It not only reflects the religious cultural concepts of karma and fate shaped by Buddhism and Taoism but also expresses the strong belief in destiny and a sense of superiority among the literati in traditional Chinese society. Moreover, it mirrors the authors creative psychology.

Abstract:Camel Xiangzi has rich connotations as far as its text is concerned.Its aesthetics in narrative is different from traditional novels.The work concentrated on the three times of ups and downs of Qiangzi's rickshaw purchase and pursuit of love.That is to say,Xiangzi underwent three times of ups and downs in physical and mental world,which was how his tragic life came to be.It was the incarnation of Lao She's pessimistic consciousness and fatalism.Hence,we can see that Lao She had penetrated into the deep sense of human nature in terms of reflections of nationalism,in which he made explorations of life from ontological viewpoint.The superorganic aesthetics of his works implies Lao She's innovation in novel creation and his exquisite knowledge of Western and Chinese cultures,on which the new narrative guidelines of literature narration was formed,i.e.,"the mental literature" of "mutual use of humans and things".

Abstract:Wen Xin Diao Long(The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons)is not a work on literary history in the modern sense;however,it has an apparent historical characteristic,with particular reference to the sections entitled 'Bian Sao'(Meta-criticism of variety of articles)and 'Quan Fu'(Interpretation on Descriptive Prose Interspersed with Verse).LIU Xie did not intend to write a work on literary history;he is in fact exploring the natures of various literary styles and the writing norms,which has naturally led to the division of literary history into alternative subfields,and hence delineated the historical lines of each subfield in the historical advances arising from the contact between literary stylistics and creative theories.This strategy differs from the modern narrative ones and fuses literary theory,literary criticism,and literary history into an organic whole,which is inspiring and worth following.

Abstract:The poetic characteristics of novels refer to the literary stylistic characteristics and the aesthetic characteristics manifested in the novels' narration that constitutes the totality of spiritual characteristics in the whole narration. This article outlined the poetic meanings of natural scenery description in both Chinese classical and modern novels. From the mixed poem language to the fusion of poetic narration, the poetic meaning of novels constituted complexities, which is accompanied by the literary stylistic changes and the spiritual vicissitudes of narrators. In classical novels, the fusion of natural scenery description displayed literary style evolution of novels. In modern novels, natural scenery description has improved so much as to be the specimen in the narrative modernization of the subject's consciousness after the May Fourth Movement.

Abstract:In 1930, Japanese Sinologist Xibei Xiantang constructed the cultural image of Suzhou from the three levels of material, history and symbol in his book The Journey of Jiangnan Poetry.On the material level, the “Jiangnan narrative” of Xibei Xiangtang is the urban state of Suzhou under the atmosphere and aesthetic experience,and the water town travel with blurred light and shadow.At the historical level, the fine shell sweet pond shows the “historical” Suzhou through the “historical” description of the landscape.At the symbolic level, the poetic nature of Jiangnan is reflected in the pictorial, ruins and poetic nature, constructing a Suzhou with symbolic significance.However, Xibei xiangtang often reveals dissatisfaction with the social reality of China, and reveals irony to China’s modern exploration and the so-called cultural inferiority.Fine shell fragrant pond “Chinese interest” on the one hand, immersed in the reality of Suzhou landscape experience, and the historical “jiangnan” landscape reveals appreciation, but on the other hand reveals the contempt for “decadent China”, is a kind of mixed “view” of China, fine shell fragrant pond narrative also reflects the characteristics of “orientalism”.

Abstract:As the beginning of Chinese narrative literature,Zuozhuan has greatinfluence on the formation of Chinese narrative structure,posing the question of how to look upon the relationship between "mixed literature and history"and the Chinese narrative tradition.Based on the three Chinese narrative perspectives,namely omniscient narration,limited narration and impersonal narration,we analyzed the formation of Zuozhuan′s narrative structure and tried to find the bas-ic characteristics of Chinese narration.This thesis holds that Zuozhuan′s narration is not for the purpose of "literariness"but of "history"function.During the realization of its "literariness",it not only describes the occurring of the "history"but also extends the explanation;Meanwhile,its narration abandons the traditional single history -telling method and words -keeping method,however,it adopts "history mixed with words",realizing the transfer from Chinese traditional running account of history -telling to historical narration of characters,pushing the historiography onto a new stage. Hereby,we find the basic essence of Chinese narration,mixture of "literariness"and "history".
