Analysis and discussion on the use of ultrasonic microscope technique to remove rare foreign bodies from the root canal

Abstract:Objective To study the clinical process for removal of rare foreign bodies from the root canal in 4 cases(2 cases with needles and nails;the other 2 with dental burs). Methods ET40 as an ultrasonic instrument was used under the root canal microscope to loosen the dentin of the root canal wall beside the foreign body,and remove the foreign body through vibration. Results Foreign bodies were completely removed,the root canal treatment was improved,and the involved teeth were preserved. Conclusion Due to the complexity in foreign body removal,clinicians should be able to correctly identify foreign bodies in the root canal and to preserve the involved teeth through accurate positioning and appropriate methods,and should pay particular attention to the handling process in order to avoid any excessive damage to the dental tissue.
