The Relationship Between Adolescent Social Adaptive Behavior and the "Big-Five" Personality

Abstract:556 students from 2 middle schools in Guangzhou were investigated in terms of the relationship between social adaptive behavior and "big-five" personality with the Scale of Adolescents'Social Adaptive Behavior and NEO Five-Factor Inventory(NEO-FFI).The results showed that:(1) Social well-adaptive behaviors were positively associated with conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, openness, and negatively related to neuroticism. (2)2-4 personalities accounted for 5.1%-40.5% of the variance in self-reported social well-adaptive behaviors, conscientiousness being the strongest and steadiest predictor.(3)2-3 personalities explained 9.3%-16.1% of the variance in self-reported social maladaptive behaviors. Conscientiousness and agreeableness were the strongest and steadiest predictors.
