Post-breeding Movements, Home Range, and Microhabitat Use of Plateau Brown Frogs Rana Kukunoris in Zoige Alpine Wetland

Abstract:Radio telemetry was used to study the ranging behaviour of plateau brown frogs Rana kuknoris during the post-breeding period. The movements of frogs were apparently random and limited in extent (the average distance travelled by both sexes was 7.1 metres during the study period). 95% and 50% kernel homeranges (Mean ±SD) averaged 796.2 m2±704.0 m2 and 119.9 m2±94.6 m2, respectively. Use of minimum convex polygon measurements yielded a home range area of 157.9 m2+119.5 m2. Habitat use differed between the sexes; males tended to use mammal burrows, while female frogs sheltered in grass clumps. However, measurements of air temperature, relative humidity and vegetation heights at sites used were very similar for both sexes.
