Abstract:Cathepsin K is a member of the papain family of cysteine proteases and is highly expressed in osteoclasts that mediate bone resorption. In this review, some of the known features of cathepsin K such as structure, function in bone resorption, gene regulation and its roles in physiological or pathophysiological processes are highlighted.
