Abstract:Objective:To explore the impairment status of whole brain white matter fiber and its relationship with cognitive function in patients with depression.Method:24 depressive patients and 30 healthy controls were evaluated clinically, measured by magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)and diffusion tensor imaging(DTI)and examined by neuropsychological test. Results:Compared to control group, patients in depression group had significant lower fractional anisotropy(FA)in the following gyrus such as left middle frontal, left superior frontal, right medial frontal, left precuneus, left superior temporal and right cingulated(P<0.001).The number of categories and the total errors of Wiscosin card sorting test(WCST)in patients of depression group were obviously higher than that in control group(P<0.01 or P<0.05).There was no significant difference in continuous performance test(CPT)between depression group and control group. The results of CPT were negatively correlated to some results of WCST in depression group(P all >0.05).Conclusion:Patients with depression may have abnormity in white matter verified mutually between DTI and WCST.Diffusion tensor imaging can help to detect the brain tiny abnormity in structure and function in patients with recognition changes.
