Abstract:The paper proposes a new theory for natural language processing-probabilistic valency pattern theory(PVP),which not only extends the traditional valency theory,but also makes the theory combined with a probabilistic element.This proposed theory is useful to probabilistically explain the processes of language understanding and generation.It is also helpful to search the better syntactic and semantic parsing algorithms based on statistical methods.
