Abstract:This paper investigates the application of chaotic detection theory to brain-computer interfaces (BCI) technology. We present a chaotic oscillator array (COA)-based method using the steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) paradigm. The presented chaotic oscillator array model is used for electroencephalogram (EEG) signal feature extraction, which works based on the phase transition characteristics of the chaotic oscillator. The dynamic characteristics of Duffing system and the corresponding bifurcation process are discussed in detail. We define a quantitative measure to characterize the response in dynamic behaviors of COA considering the trajectory divergence degree in phase space. The learning vector quantization networks (LVQ) is viewed as classification model in our method. Different response patterns of COA can be clustered and mapped with predefined BCI commands through a well-trained LVQ model. The experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed method.
