Abstract:Land remediation in the metropolitan fringe can be a combination of agriculture and urban tourism. Evaluating land remediation effort and benefits to the local residents is the foundation to land remediation projects. Using the comprehensive land management project of Heqing town in Shanghai as an example, we quantitatively analyze residents’attitudes towards developing urban tourism agriculture through land remediation. We found that 95% of residents have a positive attitude toward land remediation located in urban sightseeing agriculture. As to the economic-social perception and environment perception caused by sightseeing land remediation, residents show a positive perception to both. From the analysis of questionnaires we found that metropolitan suburbanites are different from agricultural residents: they prefer enriching leisure time, improving local awareness to the economic benefits which caused by land remediation. Conclusions are that the tourism resident perception evaluation method is suitable for urban sightseeing land remediation projects; it not only meets the project orientation of being an urban-agritourism region but also understands the local population’s perception and attitudes toward the remediation project. The related department should fully integrate the demands of improving the rural living environment, reconstruction of living roads, and increasing garbage disposal sites when planning the remediation project. We conclude by discussing land remediation project social evaluation indexes.
