The Post-Olympics Usage of the National Stadium

Abstract:The article begins with introducing the design concept of Beijing' National Stadium, the selection of the client and the design institute, the evolution of the design tasks, the preoccupancy trial period, identifies the eventual "changing" of the owner and other related background information, and the post-usage preservation plan for the national stadium after the 2008 Olympic Games. Next, the article lists post-Olympic operational facilities and spatial renovations, including activity facilities and spaces, tourism facilities and spaces, operational spaces and facilities, and office expansion. Lastly, it concludes that given the context of Chinese society and the special meaning and importance of the Beijing's National stadium, the design of the stadium provides valuable experiences and lessons. These include post-Olympics operation strategies, the comprehensive reutilization of the venue, luxury box design, transportation and resources, the reuse of sports facilities, and the overall adaptive reuse design concept and integrating into the greater context of the area.
