Abstract:Carbon concentrations of different organs and intra-species from 17 tree species (Cunninghamia lanceolata, Pinus massoniana,Pinus elliottii,Cupressus funebris,Michelia chapensis,Manglietia insigni,Cinnamomum camphora,Phoebe zhennan, Castanopsis eyre,Cyclobalanopsis glauca, Schima superba,Elaeocarpus decipiens,Symplocos caudate,Liquidambar formosana, Alniphyllum fortune,Populus, and Phyllostachys heterocycla) were studied in the existing forest vegetation in Hunan Province, China. The results show that there was no significant difference among carbon concentration of different organs from the same species, the sequences of carbon concentration in different organs for different species were not exactly the same, and there were obvious differences among mean arithmetical values of carbon concentrations of the same organ from different species or that of intra-species in different organs; Carbon concentrations of organs varied from 0.491 g ·g-1 to 0.566 g·g-1 for coniferous trees, from 0.421 g·g-1 to 0.549 g·g-1 for evergreen broad-leaved tree species, from 0.449 g·g-1 to 0.550 g·g-1 for deciduous broadleaf tree species and 0.470 g·g-1 to 0.496 g·g-1 forP. heterocycla, the arithmetic average carbon concentrations of organs from the same tree species varied from 0.486 g·g-1 to 0.551 g·g-1, of the 17 species,Cupressus funebrishad the highest carbon concentration, andEucalyptus globules had the lowest concentration, the carbon concentrations of coniferous trees were higher than those of broad-leaved tree species, that ofP. heterocyclawas the lowest; Carbon concentrations of trunks were generally higher than those of other organs, the average carbon content of trunk across 17 species varied from 0.493 to 0.556 g·g-1, carbon concentration of aboveground was higher than that of the subterranean from the corresponding species; The arithmetic average of carbon concentrations of organs from 17 tree species was 0.504g·g-1.
