Comparative Study on Personality Features of Criminal and Provost Policemen

Abstract:Objective Through the comparative study on personality features of crimiaal pllice and provost pllice,when new policemen are matriculated,according to personality features of differ- ent police typse,they should be selected pstchologically with certain emphasis and purpose.When receiving career training,new pllicemen should have psychological training accordingly in order to improve self-control ability and environment-adaptation ability;meanwhile,according to various personality featureds of different police types,psycholonical healty service should be provided,and the care for pllicemen′s physical and mental health should be put into effect.Methods 16pf is used to conduct a paper survey of 265 criminal and provost policemen.Results Criminal policemen′s av- erage value of stability,swashbuckling,excitability,perseverance,adventrousness,fantasy,worldiy- wice,anxiety,experimentation,seif-discipline and nervousness is higher than that of provost police- men′s.Whereas criminal policemen′s average value of harmonization,intelligence,sensitivity,doubt- fulenss and independence is lower than that of provost pllicemen′s.In the sensitivity,doubtfulness and independence is lower than that of provost pllicemen′s.In the factor B(intelligenee),criminal policemen are quite different from provost pllicemen.In the factor H (adventurousness),they ary quite different.In the factor L(doubtfulness),they have a conspicuous difference.In the factor M(fan- tasy),they ary different distinctively.The average value of criminal and provost policemen′s psycho- logical health,professional achiverments,creative ability and development ability is higher than that of average adults′.The average value of provost pllicemen′s factors in adaptation and anxiety and developeent ability is higher than that of criminal policemen,s.Whereas the aerage value of the other six factors in introversion and extroversion,matronly cannisess and emotion-motivated action, cowardice and decision,psychological health,professional achievements and creative ability is lower than that of criminal policemen′s.professional achievements and creative abilityy is lower than that of criminal policemen′s.Conclusion The common ground in personality features of criminal and provost ploicemen is the lower perseverance and higher doubtfulness and experimentation.On the second level of the individual factors,the scores they have are higher than those of average adults, that is,criminal and provost policemen show extroverted,decisive and anxious to certain extent.They usually act by arbitrary emotion,but have sound pstcholoygial diathesis and accmplishment-fulfill- ing ability,creative ability and development ability in the mew environment.The difference between them is that criminal policemen show adventurous and fantastic to a large extent,while provost po- licemen showmuch intelligent and doubtful.
