Abstract:In order to provide a scientific basis for conservation and cultivation of the plant, the effects of soil drought stress on antioxidant system and lipid peroxidation in leaves were investigated by using 1-year-old pot-cultured seed- lings. Seven different levels of drought stress were designed(no stress, mild drought, moderate drought, severe drought, saturation, mild waterlogging and moderate waterlogging). The pretreatment of the peroxidase(POD) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) activities rose, proline (Pro) and soluble sugar increased with the time extension and the deepening of the stress. The plasma membrane did not synchronous increase apparently, the content of malondialdehyde(MDA) and hydroxyl free radical( · OH) had a downward trend. The contentof chlorophyll and leaf chlorophyll fluorescence parameter were increased with the waterlogging at the prior disposal. The rate of superoxide anion production was accelerated at the post-processing, the pretreatment of the peroxidase(POD) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) activities began to decline, the increase of reactive oxygen species the scavenging exceeded the capacity of cells, leading to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species. So the plasma membrane, the content of malondialdehyde(MDA) and hydroxyl free radical( ~ OH) were increased. The content of chlorophyll and leaf chlorophyll fluorescence parameter were dropped dramatically. The relational grade of water-in-soil with physiological indexes indicated that chlorophyll b was the mostsensitive, and thenand ETR. From the results of the present experiment, it was concludedthat Ulmus elongata were adapt to waterlogging. Followed by saturation, no stress, mild waterlogging, moderate waterlogging, mild drought, moderate drought and severe drought.
