Abstract:British female novelist Doris Lessing was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2007, which has given us lots of illuminations. First of all, her writing is full of idealist tendency, and then, she was involved in the feminist movement and is especially good at describing the subject matters about coloniality. Plus her Diaspora identity, Lessing has always been observed and even critically studied by both writers as well as literary scholars and critics. To the the present author, Lessing's prize winning has proved the authority and justice of literary Nobel Prize. But to Chinese literature, Nobel Prize should not be regarded as the only criterion to judge its literary quality. That Chinese writers have failed to be awarded this prize has several reasons. At the beginning of the new century, literature is challenged by consumer culture, which has caused literary creation to be in-crisis. Although Chinese literature of the new century can no longer create any sensational effect, as a unique means of aesthetic expression, literature will never die. The day is to come when some of the excellent Chinese writers of great potential will be awarded the Nobel. Prize for Literature.
