Abstract:In this paper, a random sequence generator based on chaotic circuits is presented. Fundamental principle and experimental circuit have been carried out in case of Chua’s circuit. The statistical results are in good agreement with probability characteristics of random sequence.

Abstract:It is widely accepted that the core of any truly random number generator (TRNG) must be an intrinsically random physical process. However, theory of nonlinear systems and their chaotic behavior have provided an alternative way. This article chooses the piecewise-linear chaotic expression to design the RNG, analyses the influence of the expression's parameters to the iterative sequence and give the optimal scope for choosing the parameters. The TRNG is realized by analog circuit. It is composed of eight sub circuits whose structure is identical to each other and an anti-saturation circuit. Every sub circuit is composed of an operational circuit and a sample/hold circuit. Their working process is analysed. At the same time, the article also talks about how to eliminate the charge injection in the switched capacitor circuit. The chip of TRNG is taped out in TSMC with the 0.25 μm, mixed signal process. Total die area is 2.34 mm2.

Abstract:A chaotic random number generator (CRNG) is developed. It is realized by analog circuit, but could be fabricated in a standard digital CMOS process. Thus the CRNG could be used as the intelligent property for the design of an SOC. All capacitors are realized using MOS devices operated in the depletion region, and MOSCAPS are linearized by a series compensation technique. The CRNG has been tapped out in TSMC with a conventional 0.25 μm digital n-well CMOS process. Testing of the CRNG chip has also been completed. The test results show that the numbers generated by the CRNG are in fact random.

Abstract:A deterministic chaotic discrete time dynamical system can be used for random number generator (RNG). Initial condition sensitivity is the key characteristic of deterministic chaos. As initial condition is an analog value in the circuit, it will never be approached or reached in the digital measuring system. Small difference of initial value between symbol sequences generated by the measuring system will develop into great difference between later items of symbol sequences as to lead two sequences separate fully. Therefore, the symbol trajectory will never be predicted or reproduced. After analyzing the basic characteristic of a Piecewise Linearity Mapping, a design of analog circuits including switched capacitors is presented. To verify the expected distribution of the random number generated by the circuit, the dominating CMOS noise was studied with two noise models (thermal and flicker). To speed up the circuit simulation, a fast simulation method is proposed. Finally, the experimental result of the RNG in accordance with NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) standard was provided.

Abstract:Based upon the analysis of random number generators (RNGs) which amplify noise directly, the paper proposes a new design theory to generate random number by combining noise source and chaotic transformation in analog circuit. According to the design guideline, the paper analyzes some characteristics of chaotic map, and proves the key character of smoothing. The paper also introduces how to choose parameters when employing these chaotic transformation maps and the test results of chips designed according to this method is given. Also, the proposed design can intrinsically protect the unpredictability of generated random numbers against some attacks on noise sources

Abstract:Based on the research of oscillator circuits,the architecture of oscillator-based random source was designed.A new type of oscillator was introduced in the architecture which takes use of combinational logic circuits with complex feedback network.It is easy to be implemented and hard to be influenced by environment as the traditional oscillator.Meanwhile,it could speed up the generation of random bit and improve the random property.To realize fast simulation,a circuit model for the new random source was established by MATLAB/Simulink.The main noise in CMOS circuit was analyzed and the noise model was introduced to improve the simulation veracity.The simulation test of the system is carried out finally,and the result indicates that the output sequence of the model has good randomness.

Abstract:In this paper, a chaotic circuit suitable for truly random number generation is proposed. The chaotic dynamical system used in the circuit is implemented based on the charge redistribution of capacitors. This method is better at area and power consumption than most of present methods. The prototype circuit has been fabricated in a standard 0.8 μm CMOS technology. The core size is less than 4200 μm2 and power consumption is less than 1 mW.

Abstract:A chaotic circuit for truly random number generation is proposed. The chaotic system used in the circuit is implemented with the charge redistribution of capacitors. Abstract:Considering the problem of information exchanging security,the feasibility of chaotic circuits is searched.Based on the original Chua circuit,this paper puts forward a modified Chua circuit with stimulated inductor and RC parallel structure and applies it in stimulated communication circuit.The results have not only successfully demonstrated chaotic secure communication,but also made it clear that the modified circuit is more robust as to set a very important foundation for chaotic synchronization communication.

Abstract:This paper studies the chaotic behaviours of the fractional-order unified chaotic system. Based on the approxima- tion method in frequency domain, it proposes an electronic circuit model of tree shape to realize the fractional-order operator. According to the tree shape model, an electronic circuit is designed to realize the 2.7-order unified chaotic system. Numerical simulations and circuit experiments have verified the existence of chaos in the fraction-order unified system.

Abstract:In this paper, applying frequency domain techniques based on Bode diagram, fractional-order Liu chaotic system is studied. An electronic circuit unit of tree shape is designed to realize the fractional-order chaotic Liu system. Circuit experiment of 2.7-order Liu system, as well as simulation results of fractional-order Liu chaotic system with α=0.8—0.1 in step size of 0.1， verify the circuit unit's effectiveness, and prove that chaos actually exists in the fractional-order Liu chaotic system with order as low as 0.3. A simple, but effective linear feedback controller is designed to realize the chaotic control of fractional-order Liu chaotic system.
A Novel Random Number Generator Based on Continuous-Time Chaos

Abstract:In this paper, a novel random number generator using continuous-time chaos is described. Lorenz attractor is used to generate the combined fast sequence. The required symbol sequence is obtained from the original sequence which can easily be realized. The final random bit sequence is generated from the flip sample model using symbol sequence. Security analysis shows that the new arithmetic perfectly resists chosen plaintext attack and low precision with perturbation. The scheme is demonstrated to be secure and efficient against the commonly known attacks. The level of the randomness of the obtained bit sequence is tested by NIST-800-22. And the 0-1 sequence is proved to be high complexity and good cipher quality. The results of the test confirmed that the generated bit sequences do not show any nonrandom behavior.

Abstract:We present a universal algorithm for transforming chaotic sequences of either chaotic map systems or chaotic differential dynamic systems into uniform pseudo-random sequences. Theoretically，the algorithm is based on bit-operations represented by floating-point algorithm，not aiming at any definite physical chaotic systems. It has been proved that，any real random variable generally has a type of natural tendency of homogenization which exponentially increases bitwise with random variable. As a result，any real chaotic sequence can be completely transformed into the pseudo-random sequence having uniform identical independent distribution. Adopting logistic map，Hénon map and Lorenz system as examples to test the universal validity of the algorithm，respectively，the experiments demonstrate that the algorithm is correct. We can reasonably expect that the universally valid algorithm should become the technological basis of standardized modular design of chaotic pseudo-random sequence generator in hardware implementation.

Abstract:Simple-form chaotic systems with complex behaviors have always attracted the attention of researchers. This article introduces a novel 4D chaotic system that has only a quadratic nonlinear term as compared with the existing no-equilibrium continuous chaotic ones with two quadratic or higher nonlinearity. Despite the simplicity of its model, this new system exhibits complicated chaotic behaviors. Many interesting phenomena including the coexistence of different hidden attractors, offset boosting and antimonotonicity have been discovered by various numerical analysis such as bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponent spectra, and phase portraits. The further circuit simulation of this new system verifies its feasibility and practicality. Moreover, the new system is applied to construct Pseudo-Random Number Generators (PRNG), following a thorough assessment of its complexity and randomness by sample entropy. The generated numbers are subsequently assessed using 15 statistical tests. The results confirm that the new system can produce unpredictable numbers with high randomness, making it ideal for information encryption.

FPGA Implementation of a Chaotic Pseudo-Random Sequence Generator

Abstract:With the development of chaos theory based pseudo-random number generator(PRNG),in this paper,a FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) based implementations of a chaotic pseudo-random sequence generator(CPRSG) is presented.It is a bit serial implementation of a pseudo-random number generator based on TD-ERCS which is appropriately improved and the key space of CPRSG is reduced to 2160 in order to facilitate the realization of hardware and reduce hardware resources occupied.An effort of synthesizing the improved algorithm into a Cyclone EP1C20F400 FPGA is also reported.The design is with double-precision floating-point operations and the system hardware circuit occupies 17,716 logical elements,accounting for 88% chip resources.Elementary hardware simulation results show that the throughput of the CPRSG chip reaches up to 10 Mbps under a running condition of 50 MHz clock frequency.

Abstract:Abstract Pseudo‐random number generators (PRNGs) are the cornerstone of various fields including computer science, cryptography, and scientific simulation. To generate high‐quality and unpredictable pseudo‐random sequences, many works draw attention to the use of chaos theory and dynamical systems. However, most of them focus on continuous or low‐dimensional chaotic systems with strong temporal correlations or insufficient nonlinear dynamics. Thus, in this study, a new PRNG based on a four‐dimensional discrete system is proposed to solve the aforementioned flaws. The PRNG has been implemented on Xilinx Artix‐7 xc7a100tfgg484‐2, which can generate pseudo‐random sequences at a high speed of 12811.53 Mb/s without additional post‐processing. All these sequences have successfully passed the NIST SP800.22 standard test. Both throughput and randomness quality of the proposed PRNG outperform the state‐of‐the‐art.

Abstract:This paper presents a low power high entropy design of a truly random number generator based on a simple chaotic map of the Bernoulli shift, which is extended to keep robustness in practical implementation. The map is accurately realized by switched-current techniques, and a pipelined architecture post-processed by simple XOR circuits is used to improve the throughput and the entropy. The whole design is implemented in UMC 0.18 mum CMOS mixed signal process, and the statistical properties are investigated by simulations. The power consumption is 3.024 mW and the truly random output bit rate is 20 Mbit/s

Abstract:Dynamic and non-linear systems are emerging as potential candidates for random bit generation. In this context, chaotic systems, which are both dynamic and stochastic, are particularly suitable. This paper introduces a new continuous chaotic system along with its corresponding implementation, which targets field-programmable gate array (FPGA). This chaotic system has five dimensions, which exhibit complex chaotic dynamics, thus enabling the utilization of chaotic signals in cryptography. A mathematical analysis is presented to demonstrate the dynamic characteristics of the proposed hyperchaotic system. A novel digital implementation of the proposed system is presented. Moreover, a data scrambling circuit is implemented to eliminate the bias effect and increase the randomness of the bitstream generated from the chaotic signals. We show that the proposed random bit generator has high randomness. The generated bits successfully pass well-known statistical randomness test-suites, i.e., NIST SP800-22, Diehard, and TestU01. The ready-to-use random bit generator is deployed on a Xilinx Zynq-7000 SoC ZC702 Evaluation Kit. Experimental results show that the proposed random bit generator can achieve a maximum throughput of 6.78 Gbps, which is over 3.6 times greater than state-of-the-art designs while requiring under 4% of the resources available on the targeted FPGA.

Abstract:Chaotic systems with non-linear dynamic behaviors enable them to be potential candidates for pseudo-random number generators (PRNGs). Most PRNGs are capable of throughputs in the Gbps range. Here, we propose a discrete hyper-chaotic system with an embedded cross-coupled topological structure, which has two large positive Lyapunov exponents (LEs) exhibit a high level of complexity of chaotic dynamics. The chaotic sequences generated by ours show better randomness quality than the ones generated by the tent and 2D logistic maps when evaluated via Sample Entropy (SE) and Permutation Entropy (PE). Last but not the least, PRNG based on our system reveals good hardware resources utilization on field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The bits throughput of which is up to 10.04 Gbps, and over 3.62 Gbps larger than the highest level of designs by far. And all the generated bits have successfully passed the famous NIST SP800.22 and TestU01 without extra post-processing.

Abstract:Pseudo-Random Number Generators (PRNGs) yielding numbers with high rates and good randomness quality are crucial for security as networks expand in an ever-connected way. In this work, firstly, we construct a new 2D discrete hyper-chaotic map with linear cross-coupled topological structure combined with the Tent and Logistic map. The proposed map with the aforementioned structure enables it to outperform other enhanced chaotic maps developed recently. Secondly, an efficient PRNG based on the proposed one is implemented on the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) Xilinx xc7k325tffg900-2. Compared with those typical PRNGs, the sequences generated by ours own a high level of randomness and passed the well-known TestU01, Dieharder, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) SP800-22 test suite successfully without post-processing. Experimental results show that the proposed PRNG occupies merely 1.4 percent of the resources available on the targeted FPGA despite it yielding numbers with a large bit depth. In addition, the timing report shows the system can operate effectively at a clock of 158 MHz with a maximum throughput of 9.26 Gbps which outperforms the state-of-the-art.
