Abstract:We propose a scheme to control quantum interference pattern in a system of a superconducting qubit coupled to its own data bus by applying a controllable time-dependent electromagnetic field. It is shown that the quantum interference induced by the initial phase difference is closely related to the quantum correlations between two superconducting qubits which are coupled to their own data bus and the geometric discord can also be increased by applying the controllable electromagnetic field.

Abstract:We present an experimentally feasible scheme to implement holonomic quantum computation in the ultrastrong-coupling regime of light-matter interaction. The large anharmonicity and the Z(2) symmetry of the quantum Rabi model allow us to build an effective three-level Lambda-structured artificial atom for quantum computation. The proposed physical implementation includes two gradiometric flux qubits and two microwave resonators where single-qubit gates are realized by a two-tone driving on one physical qubit, and a two-qubit gate is achieved with a time-dependent coupling between the field quadratures of both resonators. Our work paves the way for scalable holonomic quantum computation in ultrastrongly coupled systems.

Abstract:We study controllable exchange coupling between two singlet-triplet qubits. We start from the original second quantized Hamiltonian of a quadruple quantum dot system and obtain the effective spin-spin interaction between the two qubits using the projection operator method. Under a strong uniform external magnetic field and an inhomogeneous local micromagnetic field, the effective interqubit coupling is of the Ising type, and the coupling strength can be expressed in terms of quantum dot parameters. Finally, we discuss how to generate various two-qubit operations using this controllable coupling, such as entanglement generation, and a controlled-NOT gate.

Abstract:The universal quantum computation is obtained when there exists asymmetric anisotropic exchange between electron spins in coupled semiconductor quantum dots. The asymmetric Heisenberg model can be transformed into the isotropic model through the control of two local unitary rotations for the realization of essential quantum gates. The rotations on each qubit are symmetrical and depend on the strength and orientation of asymmetric exchange. The implementation of the axially symmetric local magnetic fields can assist the construction of quantum logic gates in anisotropic coupled quantum dots. This proposal can efficiently use each physical electron spin as a logical qubit in the universal quantum computation.

Abstract:Two of the major obstacles to achieve quantum computing (QC) are (i) scalability to many qubits and (ii) controlled connectivity between any selected qubits. Using Josephson charge qubits, here we propose an experimentally realizable method to efficiently solve these two central problems. Since any two charge qubits can be effectively coupled by an experimentally accessible inductance, the proposed QC architecture is scalable. In addition, we formulate an efficient and realizable QC scheme that requires only one (instead of two or more) two-bit operation to implement conditional gates.

Abstract:We present an experimentally implementable method to couple Josephson charge qubits and to generate and detect macroscopic entangled states. A large-junction superconducting quantum interference device is used in the qubit circuit for both coupling qubits and implementing the readout. Also, we explicitly show how to achieve a microwave-assisted macroscopic entanglement in the coupled-qubit system.

Abstract:A two-component fermion model with conventional two-body interactions was recently shown to have anyonic excitations. We here propose a scheme to physically implement this model by transforming each chain of two two-component fermions to the two capacitively coupled chains of superconducting devices. In particular, we elaborate how to achieve the wanted operations to create and manipulate the topological quantum states, providing an experimentally feasible scenario to access the topological memory and to build the anyonic interferometry.

Abstract:Quantum computation in molecular magnets is studied by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation numerically. Following Leuenberger and Loss (Nature (London) 410, 789(2001)), an external oscillating magnetic field is applied to populate and manipulate the spin coherent states in molecular magnet Mn_12. The conditions to realize parallel recording and reading data bases of Grover algorithsm in molecular magnets are discussed in details. It is found that an accurate duration time of magnetic pulse as well as the amplitudes are required to design the device of quantum computing.

Abstract:We introduce a solid-state qubit in which exchange interactions among confined electrons provide both the static longitudinal field and the oscillatory transverse field, allowing rapid and full qubit control via rf gate-voltage pulses. We demonstrate two-axis control at a detuning sweet spot, where leakage due to hyperfine coupling is suppressed by the large exchange gap. A π/2-gate time of 2.5 ns and a coherence time of 19 μs, using multipulse echo, are also demonstrated. Model calculations that include effects of hyperfine noise are in excellent quantitative agreement with experiment.

Abstract:It has been widely assumed that one-qubit gates in spin-based quantum computers suffer from severe technical difficulties. We show that one-qubit gates can in fact be generated using only modest and presently feasible technological requirements. Our solution uses only global magnetic fields and controllable Heisenberg exchange interactions, thus circumventing the need for single-spin addressing.

Abstract:Superexchange is one of the vital resources to realize long-range interaction between distant spins for large-scale quantum computing. Recent experiments have demonstrated coherent oscillations between logical states defined by remote spins whose coupling is given by the superexchange interaction mediated by central spins. Excavating the potential of superexchange requires a full understanding of the interaction in terms of control parameters, which is still lacking in literature. Here, using full configuration interaction calculations, we study a two-electron system in a linear triple-quantum-dot device in which the left and right dots are occupied by a single electron each, whose spin states are defined as qubits. The numerical nature of the full configuration interaction calculations allows access to the microscopic details of the quantum-dot confining potential and electronic wavefunctions, some of which are overlooked in the celebrated Hubbard model but turn out to be critical for the behavior of superexchange. We focus on the detuning regime where the charge ground state yields an empty middle dot. We have found that, when the detunings at the left and right dots are leveled, the superexchange can exhibit a non-monotonic behavior which ranges from positive to negative values as a function of the middle-dot detuning. We further show that a larger relative detuning between the left and right dots causes the magnitude of the superexchange to increase (decrease) for an originally positive (negative) superexchange. We then proceed to show the results for a much larger left-right dot detuning. Our results suggest that even a simple configuration of delocalized two-electron states in a linear triple-quantum-dot device exhibits superexchange energy with non-trivial behaviors, which could have important applications in spin-based quantum computing.

Abstract:Electron spins confined in semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) are one of potential candidates for physical implementation of scalable quantum information processing technologies. Tunnel coupling based inter exchange interaction between QDs is crucial in achieving single-qubit manipulation, two-qubit gate, quantum communication and quantum simulation. This review first provides a theoretical perspective that surveys a general framework, including the Helter−London approach, the Hund−Mulliken approach, and the Hubbard model, to describe the inter exchange interactions between semiconductor quantum dots. An electrical method to control the inter exchange interaction in a realistic device is proposed as well. Then the significant achievements of inter exchange interaction in manipulating single qubits, achieving two-qubit gates, performing quantum communication and quantum simulation are reviewed. The last part is a summary of this review.

In this scheme, the spins (electronic or nuclear) of distantly spaced trapped neutral atoms serve as the qubit arrays for quantum information processing and storage, and the controlled interaction between two spins, as required for universal quantum computing, is implemented in a three step process that involves state swapping with a movable auxiliary spin.

Abstract:Experimental realization of a universal set of quantum logic gates with high fidelity is critical to quantum-information processing, which is always challenging due to the inevitable interaction between the quantum system and environment. Geometric quantum computation is noise immune, and thus, offers a robust way to enhance control fidelity. Here, we experimentally implement the recently proposed extensible nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation with solid spins in diamond at room temperature, which maintains both flexibility and resilience against decoherence and system-control errors. Compared with the previous geometric method, the fidelities of a universal set of holonomic single-qubit and two-qubit quantum logic gates are improved in experiments. Therefore, this work makes a step towards high-fidelity quantum-information processing based on extensible nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation in realistic systems.

Abstract:We demonstrate, numerically, the possibility of manipulating the spin states of molecular nanomagnets with shaped microwave pulses designed with quantum optimal control theory techniques. The state-to-state or full gate transformations can be performed in this way in shorter times than using simple monochromatic resonant pulses. This enhancement in the operation rates can therefore mitigate the effect of decoherence. The optimization protocols and their potential for practical implementations are illustrated by simulations performed for a simple molecular cluster hosting a single Gd$^{3+}$ ion. Its eight accessible levels (corresponding to a total spin $S=7/2$) allow encoding an $8$-level qudit or a system of three coupled qubits. All necessary gates required for universal operation can be obtained with optimal pulses using the intrinsic couplings present in this system. The application of optimal control techniques can facilitate the implementation of quantum technologies based on molecular spin qudits.

Abstract:Based on a magnetic field controlled electron spin quantum system, utilizing the mechanism of realizing the unitary evolution of the quantum state through the quantum gate, an optimal control strategy to prepare an arbitrary quantum state is proposed. The procedure is as follows: after the modeling of the electron quantum bit system and the control field, applying the Lie-algebra, the control output is calculated by analogy with the classical optimal control method to achieve the target. The theoretical analysis and the simulation results showed the superiority of the proposed strategy.

Abstract:With some reviews on the investigations on the schemes for quantum state transfer based on spin systems, we discuss the quantum dynamics of magnetically-controlled networks for Bloch electrons. The networks are constructed by connecting several tight-binding chains with uniform nearest-neighbor hopping integrals. The external magnetic field and the connecting hopping integrals can be used to control the intrinsic properties of the networks. For several typical networks, rigorous results are shown for some specific values of external magnetic field and the connecting hopping integrals: a complicated network can be reduced into a virtual network, which is a direct sum of some independent chains with uniform nearest-neighbor hopping integrals. These reductions are due to the fermionic statistics and the Aharonov-Bohm effects. In application, we study the quantum dynamics of wave packet motion of Bloch electrons in such networks. For various geometrical configurations, these networks can function as some optical devices, such as beam splitters, switches and interferometers. When the Bloch electrons as Gaussian wave packets input these devices, various quantum coherence phenomena can be observed, e.g., the perfect quantum state transfer without reflection in a Y-shaped beam, the multi-mode entanglers of electron wave by star-shaped network, magnetically controlled switches, and Bloch electron interferometer with the lattice Aharonov-Bohm effects. With these quantum coherent features, the networks are expected to be used as quantum information processors for the fermion system based on the possible engineered solid state systems, such as the array of quantum dots that can be implemented experimentally.
Exchange enhanced switching by alternating fields in quantum antiferromagnets

Abstract:Information can be stored magnetically in antiferromagnets ultrafast since their characteristic times are on the picosecond scale. Various spin torques have proven to be important for efficient and high-speed magnetic memories. So far, this has been understood on the classical level by solving the equations of motion for macrospins describing the collective motion of the sublattice magnetizations. Since spins and hence magnetizations are deeply rooted in quantum mechanics, we show that the exchange enhanced manipulation of sublattice magnetizations extends to quantum antiferromagnets as well. To this end, we solve the time-dependent mean-field equations for Schwinger boson theory under external alternating magnetic fields. Exchange enhancement persists on the quantum level which includes dephasing effects. Significantly lower fields are sufficient to control the sublattice magnetization than for uniform fields which holds great promises for the realization of ultrafast magnetic storage devices.

Abstract:Hybrids consisting of macroscopic superconducting circuits and microscopic components, such as atoms and spins, have the potential of transmitting an arbitrary state between different quantum species, leading to the prospective of high-speed operation and long-time storage of quantum information. Here we propose a novel hybrid structure, where a neutral-atom qubit directly interfaces with a superconducting charge qubit, to implement the qubit-state transmission. The highly-excited Rydberg atom located inside the gate capacitor strongly affects the behavior of Cooper pairs in the box while the atom in the ground state hardly interferes with the superconducting device. In addition, the DC Stark shift of the atomic states significantly depends on the charge-qubit states. By means of the standard spectroscopic techniques and sweeping the gate voltage bias, we show how to transfer an arbitrary quantum state from the superconducting device to the atom and vice versa.
