Effects of starvation stress on behavior in Litopenaeus vannamei

Abstract:A 12-day trial with video-based movement analysis system was conducted to investigate the effect of starvation on behaviors of Litopenaeus vannamei. The results showed that: during Day 1 to Day 4, the movement frequencies in daytime and swimming-walking speeds of fasted shrimps had no significant difference from fed shrimps,during Day 5 to Day 8, the movement frequencies in daytime were significantly higher in fasted shrimps than in fed shrimps,and during Day 9 to Day 12, the diurnal movement frequencies and swimming-walking speeds of fasted shrimps were significantly lower than those of fed shrimps. Under the starved condition, shrimps decreased activity levels for energy saving.
