Comparison of the Sperm Quality Analyzer with the Conventional Manual Method in Chinese Fertility and Infertility Men

Abstract:Objective:The accuracy of manual sperm assessment is affected by a variety of factors.Automated systems may be a potential alternative to conduct an accurate semen analysis.The aim of our study was to evaluate the SQA-V device as an automated tool for the assessment of sperm quality.Methods:Semen quality analysis of 15 fresh semen samples of fertility volunteers and 53 samples from infertility patients were detected using SQA V and manual method.Commercially available latex bead controls(two levels of known concentrations) were run in parallel.Both semen and beads were run in duplicate to establish the coefficients of variation(%CV's).The sperm characteristics were compared between SQA V and manual method.Results:There were significant correlations of sperm concentration(rc=0.870,P0.01) between the two methods.Conclusion:Compared with the conventional manual method,SQA V is an more accurate method,simple and easy to use in the management of male infertility.
