Abstract:This paper introduces a Video on Demand system based on both CATV broadcasting channels and IP interactive network. CATV broadcasting channels are used for content transmission and IP network is used for control information transmission between Set Top Box and Headend Server. The control mechanism of whole system is designed and implemented according to DSM-CC protocol stacks. The paper narrates the end-to-end system diagram and VoD application software of Set Top Box. The system can be used in CATV network and provide VoD services for CATV subscribers.

Abstract:Digital video is one of the typical internet applications.HDV(High Definition Digital Video) plays an important role in next generation internet applications,due to its high quality.The fact that HDV requires more bandwidth makes HDV system different from common video applications.An IPv6-based HDV system is designed and implemented,and runs on IPv6 backbone.Also,a measure subsystem is designed to analyze the system performance and the relation between HDV system and network.According to the experimental data,some conclusions could be drawn: The quality of HDV depends on the network performance,but when the bandwidth is close to saturation,the degradation of the HDV quality is not sensitive to the change of the network performance.The statistic curve of HDV system packet loss rate positively correlates to the curve of network layer,but the correlation coefficient is only about 0.83.

Abstract:Multi-channel display system is more suitable for collaboration applications than common desktop PC. In tradition, such multi-channel displays are used by a group of collocated users. In this paper, we propose one remote interaction system to allow a group of users to simultaneously access the multi-channel display on common PCs. Our system can achieve real time performance under mainstream network environment, which is difficult for the previous work even under the network testbed of high bandwidth. In the system, the multi-channel video generated on the server side is captured by synchronizing a group of capturing processes. For achieving real time performance, one hierarchical subtile-based approach is designed to represent and compress the multi-channel video using MPEG2. The system selectively streams the bitstream containing the region of visible pixels to the corresponding client. For controlling the multichannel application on client side, we refactor the architecture of VNC software, and integrate the enhanced version into our system. Experimental results show that our system achieves real time performance when simultaneously serving group users.

Abstract:Theadvent of Free Viewpoint Video (FVV) marks a significant evolution in internet video services, moving from traditional formats to more interactive and immersive experiences. Current free viewpoint video transmission systems face several challenges, including insufficient scalability in high-concurrency scenarios and additional response delays during interaction. To address these issues, we propose an innovative distributed viewpoint system solution that effectively resolves problems related to delay and scalability. At the transmission stage, we employ the QUIC protocol as the foundational transport protocol and introduce background streams as a strategy for viewpoint switching. By implementing a priority-sensitive scheduler, our system is able to maintain a high Quality of Experience (QoE) even in environments with weak network conditions. Through a series of simulation experiments, we have validated the efficiency and practicality of our system: our system is able to maintain an improvement of $3.49 \%-13.84 \%$ in PSNR. Overall, this research provides an effective solution for multi-stream parallel transmission applications such as free viewpoint video and 360 -degree video

Abstract:As the next generation video display technique after 2D display based on DTV/HDTV, three-dimensional (3D) multi-view stereoscopic display has been one of the most popular research issues in the world. This paper provides an overview about the key technologies for building a multi-view stereoscopic display system, which includes: Light field representation model and light field capturing system, high efficiency multi-view coding and transmission method compatible with current video standard, high efficiency rendering method for arbitrary position view at the decoder, 3D display technologies and multi-view autostereoscopic display. Focusing on the key technologies above, the latest international development trends and existing problems is analyzed. Meanwhile a solution for implementing a 3D video processing system based on interactive auto-stereoscopic display is proposed.

Abstract:Multiview video has gained significant interest in recent years. Generally speaking, Multiview video has more than one views from slightly different angles of the same scene. The huge amount of video data and the heterogeneous network condition pose great challenge for the transport of multiview video through internet or broadcast networks. In order to support variety of 3D application scenarios, selective transport of multi view video has to be deployed. This paper proposes a priority based selective transport framework of multiview video over MPEG-2 Transport Stream. The proposed framework achieves selective transport by extracting the related view components from MVC video as well as discarding lowest priority view components without obstructing the decoding process at the receiver client when the transport bandwidth is insufficient. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first to investigate a priority-based selective transport framework for delivery MVC video over MPEG-2 transport stream.

Abstract:This paper presents a client-driven selective streaming system for multi-view video transmission. For minimizing the total video distortion of all clients, an optimal rate allocation algorithm is proposed in which the views are delivered based on client selections as well as network conditions. In order to achieve a compromise between compression efficiency and view random access, KS-IPP encoding structure is employed where inter-view prediction are only performed for anchor frames. Also, a view and frame streaming priority calculation method is proposed, by which both the frames and views can be dropped according to their streaming priority when the bandwidth is insufficient. Finally, the performance of the proposed scheme is verified by the simulation results.

Abstract:With IT and video technologies evolving rapidly, video services with user interaction emerge, and bring about attracting experiences. The growing bandwidth and latency demands call for advanced transmission techniques which utilize wired, wireless, and 5G cellular network, and cooperate unicast, multicast, and broadcast. Free-viewpoint video, as one of the interactive video applications, can provide users with immersion of real world scenes, and shows potential to be an essential application in future digital life. However, such an application is different from other video services in aspects of computation and communication features, and existing researches are not up to the low frame latency, smooth playback, and high service scalability challenges. In this paper, we target on the above problems, and achieve ultra-low latency and stable video transmission for free-viewpoint video services by improving the performance of multiple system components accordingly. Firstly, the key performance indicator is formulated for such services, and an edge computing based video transmission schema is proposed to achieve ultra-low frame latency. Secondly, a pair of stabilization algorithms at both server and client sides based on application features are introduced to ensure stable encoded video streams before transmission, and smooth playback after that. Thirdly, a cloud-edge-client hybrid free-viewpoint service architecture is proposed, which can provide hierarchical experiences and enlarge the service scale with restricted resources. Experimental results prove the effectiveness of the proposed transmission schema and scheduling algorithms, and feasibility of the proposed service architecture is revealed by qualitative analyses.

Abstract:Free viewpoint video (FVV), as a new type of multimedia, is a very challenging research area. In order to achieve free viewpoint navigation in realistic scenes, many image based rendering (IBR) technologies are introduced into FVV systems. Tow most important IBR technologies are light field rendering (LFR) and depth image based rendering (DIBR). This paper will show a new LFR based FVV streaming system over broadband IP networks. Our system uses jump frame method to support scalable quality of service (QoS) to users. An I frame retransmission method in application layer collaborates with RTP/RTCP technology in video streaming ensures different level of QoS.

Abstract:This paper presents a new scheme for efficient MPEG4 video transmission over the Internet that provides differentiated services (diff-serv). The scheme has three new elements: (1) smart packetization scheme which distinguishes different types of MPEG4 data streams; (2) object-based bit rate control and adaptation corresponding to users' interactions and selections; (3) selective dropping of packets that takes advantage of differentiated classes in diff-serv. Experiment was conducted on the Microsoft's IPv6 platform where an adaptive MPEG4 video streaming system was developed to verify our proposed approach. Experimental results show that our proposed scheme provides must improved QoS and capability for object-based user interactivity.

Abstract:Multiview video is essential for various mobile three-dimensional (3D) and immersive applications that can capture scenes from multiple angles for better user experience. However, robust transmission of multiview video is very challenging in wireless networks due to high bandwidth requirement and time-varying channel quality. Though the up-to-date 802.11 system enables spatial multiplexing MIMO to enhance transmission capacity, it is still agnostic to 3D source coding structure in the transmission. In this paper, we study the optimal resource allocation problem in MIMO systems that deliver 3D content with multiview video coding. The basic idea is to exploit the channel diversity of multiple antennas and the source coding characteristics so as to achieve unequal error protection against channel errors. To achieve this goal, we develop a nonlinear mixed integer programming framework to perform antenna selection and power allocation, and propose low-complexity algorithms to assign these resources. We implement a proof-of-concept system, namely MuVi, on the software-defined-radio platform, WARP, to evaluate the proposed algorithms. MuVi is the practical system to tackle 3D multiview streaming in the latest Wi-Fi networks such as IEEE 802.11ac under realistic channel conditions. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the peak signal-to-noise-ratio of MuVi significantly outperforms that of the conventional power allocation scheme in a variety of indoor environments.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a network-aware multicast scheme to supply instantaneous VOD (video-on-demand) services. Being different from traditional VOD systems, this system is implemented based on peer-to-peer grid. By taking advantage of the large storage and the powerful processing capability in client-side devices, the user host serves as both a client and a non-dedicated video server. The system capability is enhanced due to the contribution of user hosts. Peer groups are formed as a collection of peers that share similar interest, and workload may be fairly apportioned among autonomous groups. In this VOD system, the adaptive video delivery mainly employs a new dynamic buffering algorithm and an improved video multicast strategy to achieve an optimal utilization of system resources, and the network-aware adaptation makes the system more robust. In cooperating with each other, the relevant servers can supply instantaneous video services for local users.

Abstract:Multiview video is well known to involve interactions with audience and offer better view experience than conventional single-view video. The interactive nature of multiview video has made the service very delay-sensitive and thus imposes great challenges for providing multiview streaming service in Internet. Currently, almost none of existing works have addressed the delay issue in multiview streaming. To ensure the quality of service and offer preferable view experience for users, we propose a novel streaming framework to provide delay-guaranteed service for interactive multiview video. The basic tradeoff between consumed server bandwidth and the required delay is carefully studied. We leverage the features of MVC to keep the server bandwidth costs low while guarantee the delay constraint. In addition, we introduce a neighbor-assisted view switching scheme: peer's neighbors are involved in its switching process and their upload bandwidth resources are effectively utilized to reduce the bandwidth costs on server. Simulation results show that our proposed framework meet the delay-guaranteed requirement with restrained server bandwidth costs while maintaining scalability and resilience to users dynamics.

Abstract:As IPv4 address pool has been completely depleted and the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 has become a trend, P2P video streaming through IPv4/v6 hybrid network is now needed, for equipments with different types of IP addresses widely exist on the Internet. Traditionally, large-scale commercial P2P-IPTV systems have been deployed in IPv4 networks. However, these systems do not support equipments with IPv6 addresses and cannot work in IPv4/v6 hybrid networks. To overcome this problem, we propose a novel dual-stack-based architecture to distribute contents to different networks. The core element of the system is the dual-stack tracker which makes all equipments with IP address interconnect with each other and form a hybrid network. Meanwhile, equipments with IPv4/v6 addresses act as bridges, which distribute contents to IPv4 and IPv6 networks. The paper focuses on how to make all equipments with different types of IP addresses work in one system, analyzing the architecture and performance results related to the use of IPv6 bandwidth. This system has been deployed and broadcasted the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa with 755 kbps video stream, and our results demonstrate the feasibility of video over IPv4/v6 hybrid network for a representative application.

SOLUTION: A plurality of video cameras are assigned to capture an event from various related positions and directions. A captured video is compressed in a control PC at real time and sent to a server. By transcoding the compressed video using an off-line compression technique, data volume is further reduced. Abstract:In this paper we study the key issues of the real-time video transfer system when applying multicast technology.First we introduce an application-level high-performance multicast transport protocol RTMTP to offer guarantees of real-time and stable video transmission.Second,we improve the management of flow control by adding the component Video Repeater,avoiding the traditional way in which centralized and inflexible methods are applied.Third,packet forwarding is achieved through hierarchical service control of Repeaters.Finally,the implementation of a solution is issued and the performance of a sample system based on it is tested.
