Abstract:This paper attempts to sort out the accumulated studies on adoptions and uses of innovation conducted by Chinese scholars over the last decade with an aim to examine the incorporation of Western theories into Chinese contexts. To serve the purpose, the investigations are executed along three angles,i.e.,the choices and modification of theories, the definitions and measurement of concepts, and the major research findings. It is found that the diffusion of innovation perspective,as well as its multiple variations,is actually well established and consistent, across societies, cultures and different innovation types, which reflects the universal validity of this group of theories. On the other hand, there do exist some minor adjustments in the applications of those Western-rooted theoretical frameworks into the Chinese settings to embrace the uniqueness of specific societies or innovations.
