Abstract:For p>1 and φp(s):=|s|p-2s, we are concerned with the boundedness of solutions for the equation(φp(x′))′+αφp(x+)-βφp(x-)=f(t,x),where x+=max(x,0),x-=max(-x,0) and f(t,x) is 2π-periodic in t. When πpα1/p+πpβ1/p=2πn(the “resonant” situation) and f has limits f±(t) as x→±∞, there is a function Z(θ) plays a central role for the boundedness of solutions. More precisely, if Z(θ) is of constant sign, then all solutions are bounded. Moreover, such condition also guarantees the boundedness when (α,β) near a Fučik curve.

Abstract:We consider the problem of boundedness of solutions for the oscillator x " + f (x)x' + n(2)x + phi (x) = p(t). Since the system in general is non-Hamiltonian, we have to introduce reversibility assumptions to apply suitable twist theorems, for reversible maps with small twist. We then obtain a sharp result concerning the boundedness of solutions.

Abstract:We obtain existence an multiplicity of harmonic and subharmonic solutions to the periodically forced nonlinear Duffing′s equation x″ + g(x) = p(t) in the semi-linear case: 0 < A ≤ g(x)/x ≤ B < + ∞, for |x| large. We introduce new conditions of nonresonance with respect to the spectrum of the associated linear differential operator x↦ −x″ and show, by some nonlinear counterexamples, that the results are sharp.

Abstract:The boundedness of all solutions is shown for Duffing-type equations d^2 x/dt^2 + x^2n + 1 + ∑_j = 0^2nx^j p_j (t) = 0, n ⩾ 1, where p 1 , p 2 ,..., p 2n are of period 1 and of Lipschitzian continuity and p n+1 ,..., p 2n are of Zygmundian continuity. This conclusion implies that the boundedness phenomenon for the Duffing-type equations does not require the smoothness in the time-variable, thus answering the question posed by Dieckerhoff and Zehnder.

Abstract:In this paper the Duffing-type equation (d2x/dt2)+x2n+1+p2n(t)x2n+…+p1(t)x+p0(t)=0 is studied where the pj's are 1-periodic. It is shown that all solutions of this equation are bounded, provided that the pj(t) (0⩽j⩽n) are of bounded variation in [0, 1] and that the derivatives of pj(t) (n⩽j⩽2n) are Lipschitzian. It is also shown that there exist pj's being discontinuous everywhere such that all solutions of the equation are bounded. This implies that the continuity of pj's is not necessary for the boundedness of solutions of the equation.
