Abstract:The male sterile lines used in this study were Jinfu1 A,2 A,5 A,and the restoring lines were Mianhui 725,Feihui 6,Yihui 1577,Shuhui 881,Minhui 86,Hui 15,Guanghui 128,and Shuhui 3551.These materials constituted an incomplete dialled cross of 3×8.The heritability and combining ability of 12 agronomic characters for 24 hybrids were estimated.The main results were as follows: 1)Most characteristics of Hybrid rice F1 were affected by the general combining abilities of sterile lines and restoring lines and specific combining abilities.The general combining abilities of restoring lines played a more important role as compared with the general combining abilities of sterile lines.2)There was a great difference in the effects of specific combining abilities.Among the 12 agronomic characters in the parental grouping,specific combining abilities played a more important role.3)In the hybrid rice,however,every characteristic was influenced by three combining abilities: the general combining abilities of sterile lines and restoring lines as well as the specific combining abilities of combination.The total combining abilities was defined,which based on the heterosis was calculated.4)The heritability of all the characteristics of hybrid rice such as the heritabilities of days from sowing to initial heading,weight of 1 000 grains,panicle length and plant height were higher,but the heritability of seed setting rate was lower in this experiment.
