Abstract:In this paper a distributed clustering algorithms is proposed to cluster time series in a distributed environment. Based on fuzzy clustering, the proposed algorithm is performed in multiple sites without transferring all data to a single site. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is effective, efficient and scalable and provides the same clustering quality as the single centralized data set.

Abstract:In this study, we consider the type of interval data summarizing the original samples (individuals) with classical point data. This type of interval data are termed interval symbolic data in a new research domain called, symbolic data analysis. Most of the existing research, such as the (centre, radius) and [lower boundary, upper boundary] representations, represent an interval using only the boundaries of the interval. However, these representations hold true only under the assumption that the individuals contained in the interval follow a uniform distribution. In practice, such representations may result in not only inconsistency with the facts, since the individuals are usually not uniformly distributed in many application aspects, but also information loss for not considering the point data within the intervals during the calculation. In this study, we propose a new representation of the interval symbolic data considering the point data contained in the intervals. Then we apply the city-block distance metric to the new representation and propose a dynamic clustering approach for interval symbolic data. A simulation experiment is conducted to evaluate the performance of our method. The results show that, when the individuals contained in the interval do not follow a uniform distribution, the proposed method significantly outperforms the Hausdorff and city-block distance based on traditional representation in the context of dynamic clustering. Finally, we give an application example on the automobile data set.

Abstract:We investigate the fuzzy clustering of interval time series using wavelet variances and covariances; in particular, we use a fuzzy c-medoids clustering algorithm. Traditional hierarchical and non-hierarchical clustering methods lead to the identification of mutually exclusive clusters whereas fuzzy clustering methods enable the identification of overlapping clusters, implying that one or more series could belong to more than one cluster simultaneously. An interval time series (ITS) which arises when interval-valued observations are recorded over time is able to capture the variability of values within each interval at each time point. This is in contrast to single-point information available in a classical time series. Our main contribution is that by combining wavelet analysis, interval data analysis and fuzzy clustering, we are able to capture information which would otherwise have not been contemplated by the use of traditional crisp clustering methods on classical time series for which just a single value is recorded at each time point. Through simulation studies, we show that under some circumstances fuzzy c-medoids clustering performs better when applied to ITS than when it is applied to the corresponding traditional time series. Applications to exchange rates ITS and sea-level ITS show that the fuzzy clustering method reveals different and more meaningful results than when applied to associated single-point time series.

Abstract:Clustering, as a powerful data mining technique for discovering interesting data distributions and patterns in the underlying database, is used in many fields, such as statistical data analysis, pattern recognition, image processing, and other business applications. Density-based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) (Esteret al., 1996) is a good performance clustering method for dealing with spatial data although it leaves many problems to be solved. For example, DBSCAN requires a necessary user-specified threshold while its computation is extremely time-consuming by current method such as OPTICS, etc. (Ankerstet al., 1999), and the performance of DBSCAN under different norms has yet to be examined. In this paper, we first developed a method based on statistical information of distance space in database to determine the necessary threshold. Then our examination of the DBSCAN performance under different norms showed that there was determinable relation between them. Finally, we used two artificial databases to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed methods.

Abstract: In this chapter, the grey dynamic clustering algorithm of an interval grey number is proposed by the joint application of the basic idea of fuzzy equivalent clustering and the method of the grey system theory. Firstly, the similarity coefficient formula of the interval grey number is discussed, and then the clustering of the interval grey number is realized by making use of the transitive closure method. This algorithm combines the grey system theory and the fuzzy set theory, which expands the range of classical equivalent clustering algorithms from the legible number to the interval grey number. Therefore, it’s more versatile, and its effectiveness is testified by an example.

Abstract:Clustering is a data analysis method for extracting knowledge by discovering groups of data called clusters. Among these methods, state-of-the-art density-based clustering methods have proven to be effective for arbitrary-shaped clusters. Despite their encouraging results, they suffer to find low-density clusters, near clusters with similar densities, and high-dimensional data. Our proposals are a new characterization of clusters and a new clustering algorithm based on spatial density and probabilistic approach. First of all, sub-clusters are built using spatial density represented as probability density function ($p.d.f$) of pairwise distances between points. A method is then proposed to agglomerate similar sub-clusters by using both their density ($p.d.f$) and their spatial distance. The key idea we propose is to use the Wasserstein metric, a powerful tool to measure the distance between $p.d.f$ of sub-clusters. We show that our approach outperforms other state-of-the-art density-based clustering methods on a wide variety of datasets.

Abstract:In this paper, two fuzzy clustering methods for spatial interval-valued data are proposed, i.e. the fuzzy C -Medoids clustering of spatial interval-valued data with and without entropy regularization. Both methods are based on the Partitioning Around Medoids (PAM) algorithm, inheriting the great advantage of obtaining non-fictitious representative units for each cluster. In both methods, the units are endowed with a relation of contiguity, represented by a symmetric binary matrix. This can be intended both as contiguity in a physical space and as a more abstract notion of contiguity. The performances of the methods are proved by simulation, testing the methods with different contiguity matrices associated to natural clusters of units. In order to show the effectiveness of the methods in empirical studies, three applications are presented: the clustering of municipalities based on interval-valued pollutants levels, the clustering of European fact-checkers based on interval-valued data on the average number of impressions received by their tweets and the clustering of the residential zones of the city of Rome based on the interval of price values.

Abstract:This paper proposes a fuzzy C -medoids-based clustering method with entropy regularization to solve the issue of grouping complex data as interval-valued time series. The dual nature of the data, that are both time-varying and interval-valued, needs to be considered and embedded into clustering techniques. In this work, a new dissimilarity measure, based on Dynamic Time Warping, is proposed. The performance of the new clustering procedure is evaluated through a simulation study and an application to financial time series.

Based on Squeezer cluster algorithm, ID-Squeezer, a new algorithm, is proposed, which scores clustering results by interval data and adjusts the upper and lower limits dynamically according to new data within threshold. The algorithm effectively reduces the storage space and retains information of cluster result. The experiment demonstrates the effectiveness of the algorithm we proposed.

Abstract:This article focuses on employing the dynamic programming algorithm to solve the large-scale group decision-making problems, where the preference information takes the form of linguistic variables. Specifically, considering the linguistic variables cannot be directly computed, the interval type-2 fuzzy sets are employed to encode them. Then, new distance model and similarity model are respectively developed to measure the relationships between the interval type-2 fuzzy sets. After that, a dynamic programming algorithm-based clustering model is proposed to cluster the decision-makers from the overall perspective. Moreover, by taking both the cluster center and the group size into consideration, a new model is introduced to determine the weights of clusters and decision-makers, respectively. Finally, a centroid-based ranking method is developed to compare and rank the alternatives, and two illustrative experiments are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Comparisons and discussions are also conducted to verify its superiority.

Abstract:Generally the spatial fuzzy clustering algorithm has not differentiated between the various attributes imbalance and the multi-dimensional data description complexity and that isn’t favor to the complex spatial data relation correct description. In response to this problem, this paper uses a spatially weighted fuzzy dynamic clustering algorithm and realizes the dynamic process visualization of the algorithm. The research combines the weight of AHP with spatial fuzzy clustering and then uses statistical probability F-distribution to determine the optimal threshold in order to enhance the intelligence of spatial fuzzy clustering algorithm. The use of Star coordinate can achieve the spatial fuzzy clustering algorithm visualization. Tests show that compared with based on fuzzy equivalent relation transitive closure method, the clustering is higher than the not weighted fuzzy clustering algorithm.

Abstract:An Improved Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm (IU-IFCM) is proposed in this study in accordance with the characteristics of Interval Uncertain data. First, the interval data is transformed into real data composed of 2p dimension feature, which is mapped from that of p dimension feature. Second, a method for calculating sample distance, which realizes the interval sample clustering by fuzzy c-mean algorithm, is designed while considering the relationship between interval median value and interval size. Theoretical analysis and comparison experiments show that the presented algorithm surpaes the compared algorithms by more than 10% on average in terms of the Partition Coefficient (PC) and Correct Rank(CR) value. These results indicate that the algorithm presents in this study has better clustering accuracy and provides a new solution for the classification of uncertain data in current big data environments.

Abstract:Most existing approaches of similarity search in time series databases focus on the efficiency of algorithms but seldom provide a means to handle imprecise data.The imprecise data are normally presented in the interval.By identifying the important interval values from the time series of intervals,the dimensionality of the time series of intervals can be greatly reduced.This paper proposes an indexing approach of time series of intervals,based on clustering the time series of intervals in low resolution.As demonstrated by the experiments,the proposed approach speeds up the time series of intervals query process while it also guarantees no false dismissals.

The principle and steps of the fuzzy c-means algorithm are studied, meanwhile it is improved for clustering interval data by defining the distance and operation between interval data.
