Abstract:I consider where sensory representations are transformed into reward based representations in the brain; how associations are learned and reversed between stimuli (that thereby become secondary reinforcers) and primary reinforcers such as taste and touch; how these processes lead to representations of reward magnitude, expected reward value, and reward prediction error; how cognition and attention specifically modulate these processes; and then how decisions that involve a choice are made between different rewards.
