Abstract:Using the steady-state method, the solubilities of terephthalic acid(1) in binary acetic acid(2)+water(3) solvent mixtures in a specially contrived vessel have been measured as a function of temperature in the temperature range 423.15–513.15K and solvent composition range from x2=1.000 to 0.3103 (molar fraction). The experimental solubilities are correlated with the Apelblat equation. The calculated results show good agreement with the experimental solubilities.

Abstract:The solubilities of benzoic acid and phthalic acid in acetic acid + water solvent mixtures are determined by a static method. The experimental temperature ranges from (298.3 to 367.9) K, and the mass fraction of acetic acid in the solvent mixtures ranges from 0.8 to 1.0. The experimental results show that, within the temperature range of the measurements, the solubility of benzoic acid and phthalic acid in all the mixtures shows an increasing trend as the temperature increases. The solubility of benzoic acid decreases with increasing mass fraction of water. For the solubility of phthalic acid in acetic acid + water within the solvent composition range of the measurements, below 325.2 K, the higher the mass fraction of water, the less the solubility. However, above 325.2 K the higher the mass fraction of water, the greater the solubility. A simple explanation was given for this "maximum-solubility effect". The experimental data was correlated by the Non-Random Two Liquids (NRTL) activity coefficient model, and the model parameters were regressed.

Abstract:The solubilities of (+)-biotin intermediate lactone in methanol, toluene, tetrahydrofuran, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and N,N-dimethylformamide were determined at the investigated temperatures 287.15-323.75 K under pressure (p = 0.1 MPa) by a laser monitoring system. The solubilities of (+)-biotin intermediate lactone in pure solvents increase with increasing temperature and in the following order: methanol < toluene < ethyl acetate < tetrahydrofuran < dichloromethane < N,N-dimethylformamide. The solubilities were correlated by the equation for ideal solution model, modified Apelblat equation, lambda h equation, Wilson model, and NRTL equation. The calculated values are in good agreement with the measured experimental data. The modified Apelblat equation was found to provide further accurate representation of the experimental data in six organic solvents.

Abstract:The solubilities of desmosterol in methanol, ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, and acetonitrile were measured. The solubilities of desmosterol in these solvents increased with temperature and varied greatly with the solvent from a minimum of 0.1151 mol.L-1 in acetonitrile at 300.8 K to a maximum of 1.102 mol.L-1 in ethyl acetate at 332.8 K. The solubility values were correlated with the modified Apelblat equation. The calculated solubilities for all solvents showed good agreement with the experimental data in the temperature range studied.

Abstract:The solubilities of biotin in water, methanol, ethanol, acetic acid, dimethylformamide (DMF), and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) were measured at temperatures ranging from 298.15 K to 333.85 K (p = 0.1 MPa) by the synthetic method with a laser monitoring dynamic technique. The mole fraction solubilities of biotin were observed to be highest in DMSO, and be lowest in water. The experimental data were well-correlated with the modified Apelblat equation, vant Hoff equation, and lambda h equation, in which the correlation coefficients (R-2) were noted in the range of 0.997 to 1.000 and the root-mean-square deviations (rmsd) were less than 2.82 %. Thermodynamic studies showed that dissolution of biotin was an endothermic and spontaneous process in all selected solvents.

Abstract:The solubility of beta-arbutin (ARB) in 12 different monosolvents (methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, butyl alcohol, isobutanol, ethyleneglycol, acetone, 2-butanone, acetonitrile, methyl acetate, and ethyl acetate) from 283.15 to 323.15 K at atmospheric pressure was measured by gravimetric method. The solubility data show an increasing trend with increasing temperature. The solubility is related to many factors like polarity, H-bond, cohesive energy density, etc. The solubility of ARB was correlated by the Apelblat model, lambda h model, Van't Hoff equation, and nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model. Also, the Apelblat model shows a better fitting result compared with other three models through calculating the value of ARD. Besides, the dissolution thermodynamic properties (the dissolution Gibbs energy, enthalpy, and entropy) were evaluated, which revealed that the dissolution of ARB was a spontaneous and exothermic process.

Abstract:The solubilities of asiaticoside in water, methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, n-butanol, and a methanol + water mixture were determined over the temperature range from (278.15 to 343.15) K by a static analytical method. The concentrations of asiaticoside in the saturated solutions were analyzed by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. An "N"-type curve was found for the solubilities of asiaticoside in the methanol + water mixture. Two empirical equations were proposed to correlate the experimental data, which fit the data well.

Abstract:The solubilities of cholesterol in methanol, anisole, acetic acid, ethyl acetate, heptane, methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), and mixed solvent (ethanol-MIBK) are determined in the temperature range of 283.2 to 318.2 K. The experimental solubilities of cholesterol in pure solvents and binary mixed solvents are found to increase with increasing temperature. In the binary mixed solvent (ethanol-MIBK), the cholesterol solubilities with increasing mass fraction of ethanol first increase and then decrease. The maximum cholesterol solubility can be obtained when the mass fraction of ethanol is approximately 10%. The solubilities of cholesterol in MIBK, ethyl acetate, and anisole are larger than those in methanol, heptane, and acetic acid. The experimental solubilities are correlated with the van ' t Hoff, modified Apelblat, Yaws, van't Hoff-Jouyban-Acree, and modified UNIQUAC models. The modified UNIQUAC model shows a better fitting result. The modified UNIQUAC model shows an average relative error (ARD) of less than 9%. The ARD values for the other models are all less than 12%.

Abstract:This research reports the solubility and thermodynamic characterization of orotic acid (OA) when it reaches solid–liquid equilibrium in twelve pure solvents and four binary solvents. Solubility determinations were determined by HPLC in the temperature range of T = 278.15–323.15 K (DMSO at 293.15–323.15 K). The results exhibit that in pure solvents, the solubility order of OA is DMSO > DMF > THF > methanol > water > n-propanol > isopropanol > n-butanol > ethanol > acetone > methyl acetate > ethyl acetate. The solubility order in four binary solvents is DMF + ethyl acetate > THF + ethyl acetate > methanol + ethyl acetate > n-propanol + ethyl acetate. According to the solubility data, it can be found that the solubility of OA in the selected pure solvents is positively correlated with temperature. As the temperature gradually rises to 323.15 K, the mole fraction solubility of OA also reaches the maximum. In binary solvents, in addition to the influence of temperature, the increase in the mole fraction of DMF, THF, methanol and n-propanol also promote the dissolution of OA. The properties of the solute and the solvent were combined, the KAT-LSER model was used to investigate the solvation effect of OA in the dissolution process. According to the results, the solubility of OA mainly depends on the ability to accept the hydrogen bond of investigated solvents, and the proportion of the total solvent effect of it is 21.99%. Through the fitting analysis of five thermodynamic models (λh model, modified Apelblat model, CNIBS/R-K model, Jouyban-Acree model and SUN model), the maximum RAD and RMSD are 0.3082 and 0.2272, respectively, indicating that the experimental data is highly correlated with five models.

Abstract:With the purpose of qualitative characterization of the electrostatic properties of the acidity and basicity of ursolic acid (UA) and oleanolic acid (OA), quantitative analyses of the molecular surface were employed in this contribution. The −OH and −COOH groups on the molecules of OA and UA took precedence over establishing hydrogen bonds with the solvents acetone/methanol/water. In addition, the intermolecular interactions of OA and UA with acetone/methanol/water were investigated using an independent gradient model based on the Hirshfeld partition of molecular density. In solutions of OA/UA dissolved in methanol/acetone/water, attractive interactions, including the hydrogen-bond force and van der Waals (vdW) force, occur. The shake-flask technique was applied to evaluate the equilibrium solubility of UA and OA in acetone + water and methanol + water at 101.2 kPa and elevated temperatures covering from 278.15 to 323.15 K. Solvent–solvent interactions accounted by the solubility parameter of solutions had a significant domination in the variability of solubility magnitudes. The van’t Hoff–Jouyban–Acree, Apelblat, and Jouyban–Acree models revealed a good correlation for the measured solubility, with a relative mean deviation of no more than 7.73%. The Kirkwood–Buff integral approach was utilized to determine the preferred solvation of UA and OA by solvent species. In both the rich- and intermediate-composition regions of methanol/acetone, UA or OA is preferentially solvated with positive preferential solvation parameters by methanol/acetone.
