Abstract:Objective:To investigate the acoustical responses of the polylactone microbubble in dog's left ventricle chamber and to achieve satisfactory left ventricle opacification(LVO) via intravenous injection. Methods:Six dogs were studied to evaluate the acoustic effect of the polymer echo contrast agent.Acoustic measurements of acoustic density(AD)or LVO intensity were taken in fundamental and hamonic imaging mode. The frequencies(2.25~4.25 MHz) and powers(MI=0.1~1.3) employed span the range used in most echocardiographic examinations. Results:Injections in animals provided a homogenous,dose-dependent opacification of the left ventricle, whereas harmonic imaging increased left ventricle gray intensity by more than five times(P0.01) compared with fundamental imaging. And left ventricle gray intensity had a linear relation with MI.The optimal MI ranged from 0.5 to 1.3.The lower MI(0.5)combined with the higher dose(0.5 ml) and the higher MI(1.0~1.3) combined with the lower dose(0.2 ml) achieved satisfactory LVO.An intermediate or strong opacification was obtained in 88.6% of all the injections. Conclusion:Under the frequency range used in most echocardiographic examinations the polylactone microcapsular contrast agent has high harmonic effect and under higher MI imaging modes,it can be used to perform left ventricle opacification.
