Abstract:Since its accession into the WTO in 2001,China has seen its foreign trade achieve a high growth ratea nd fast transition.With its integration into the international production system and value chains,p articularly in East Asia,China has become the global manufacturing and trade center,and the countryw ith the largest export and trade surplus in 2009.During the past decade,China has largely maintainedt rade liberalization and opening-up through honoring its commitments of non-discrimination andm arket access upon joining the WTO and made headway in regional trade cooperation.China's traded evelopment and policy transition have had significant impacts on,and brought shocks to,thec ountry's economic growth,industry upgrading,regional integration,labor markets,energy ande nvironment,and international competitiveness.What is worth noticing is that the global financialc risis has made China rethink its traditional economic and trade development mode and become awareo f the necessity of building a new trade development strategy so that it can lay a solid foundation for itss hift to a path of a more stable,balanced and sustainable foreign trade development.
