Abstract:Based on advanced Microprocessors MPC8260 and real-time operating system VxWorks, a high-performance embedded computing control platfonn is proposed to meet the increased requirements of complexity and real time in intelligent control systems. DSP array and FPGA is also designed for high-speed parallel signal processing. Abstract:Taking advantages of the modular nature of Linux, a set of Linux modules were improved to make Linux run on various SoC. The module improvement was including: developing a target-specific bootloader, designing a memory management module for the MMU-less processor, real-time improvement in scheduling module and organizing a small footprint file system for the flash memory. These modules can be reassembled on demands, catering for different boards and applications. Moreover, methods for developing embedded Linux are concluded, including tool chains and debug techniques. Case studies on two hardware platforms, based on ARM720T and M68K respectively, shown that the work satisfies application requirements.

Abstract:Embedded Software Platform for digital instrument device plays important role in developing of digital instrument device which is based on Embedded Technology.The design and implementation of Embedded Graphic Widget Library,which is one of the components of the software platform,was introduced in this paper.The system architecture was illustrated at first,and then descriptions of device context,windows management and message processing were also discussed.In addition,some core algorithms were analyzed,including focused window determination and message queue processing.Finally,some applications of the library were provided.

Abstract:A platform for embedded multimedia applications is presented.Its design and implementation are described in detail.The proposed platform is an MIPS-based scalar RISC with Harvard micro-architecture,5-stage integer pipeline and enhanced multimedia processing capacity.It features a data path including non-aligned data access mechanism, two-dimensional DMA function and separated embedded instruction and data memories.This special architecture greatly promotes execution efficiency of boundary-crossed and block data access operations often found in multimedia processing.The prototype has been fabricated using UMC's 0.18-μm standard CMOS technology.

Abstract:The touchscreen device and embedded desktop system based on graphic library have been widely used on embedded developing platform based on 32-bit CPU as the interface between people and machine.The process of designing and developing the embedded Linux desktop system on the Total5200 developing platform based on PowerPC architecture is introduced,including developing the Linux touchscreen device driver program and porting the Qtopia desktop system.The common problems in the process are analyzed.Means of realizing the embedded desktop system on JFFS2 file system are given.

Abstract:Aiming at asynchronous control requirement of outdoor LED screen,the design and implementation of embedded soft-ware was put forward,which could be used on the i.MX6 processor based asynchronous LED display control system.An event queue method based on multithreading in the announced embedded software was adopted,accompanied with the utilization of the GStreamer based streaming media player system.Using the characteristics of portable library in embedded Linux environment, the data from the upper computer were processed dynamically and asynchronous control of multimedia programs in multiple for-mats was realized.Considering the functionality of the system,boot time and playing strategy were optimized for the perfor-mance.Results of several tests show that the proposed methods have better user experiences and satisfying results.

Abstract:For the problems that MPlayer encountered when decoding high definition video on the embedded platform of Intel's CE3100, a novel dual-core player is designed according to the features of CE3100. The dual-core player includes one soft core player based on software decoder and one hard core player based on hardware decoder. Then, a main control center is introduced in the front of the player. The control center is responsible for analyzing and getting attributes of various types of media files, and determining to start soft core player or hard core player according to these attributes, which includes codec, bit rate, resolution and so on. At the same time, the implementation of the player is introduced in details. Eventually, it shows the performance and advantage of the player through comparative experiment. ©2010 IEEE.

Abstract:This paper presents the design and implementation of a portable cross-platform digital media player.The player employs modularised design and uses C/C++ as its implementation language.The method used in the design can be extensively applied to diverse platforms including IBM-PC.The paper explains in detail the partition of modules of cross-platform player,their corresponding functions,platform pertinency,and inter-communication.Actual implementation of the player,which is based on this design architecture,on Microsoft Windows32 and Ubuntu Linux platforms is given at the end of the paper.Experiments show that using this cross-platform design approach can significantly improve the development efficiency of multi-media playing software on different platforms.

Abstract:This paper developed a network video server based on Freescale video processing chip IMX27 running on the Linux operating environment,and short connection was used to complete the interaction between the server and clients,which effectively saved system resources and reduced the CPU utilization of the sever.Moreover,in order to obtain high quality video images,the server adopted an adaptive de-interlacing algorithm based on the use of splicing and interpolation of static and moving picture respectively to realize de-interlacing of the video image,therefore the integrity of the video data was guaranteed and the video clarity was improved.In the end,an application case of the server was given,which achieved the desired designed goal.

Abstract:Based on an ARM and DSP dual-processor embedded platform, we design a digital video recorder (DVR) which uses PCI bus interface. This paper realizes the development of BSP from scratch, the main achievements are the building of the development environment, the development of Bootloader and OAL, and ultimately compiled the eboot.nb0 and nk.nb0 running on the development board. The design of device driver and application program is introduced. This recorder can encode video streams and transfer them to the host in real time and store to local hard-disk. Thus it is convenient to complete the functions of remote monitoring system.

Abstract:This paper presents an embedded architecture for real-time video acquisition module which is a vital part of a smart camera system. The Xilinx ML-507 platform has been used to develop the proposed embedded architecture. Apart from the required necessary peripherals, the platform contains a Virtex-5 FX FPGA device having PowerPC 440 processor embedded in the FPGA fabric itself. In order to develop the required hardware and software in an integrated fashion, Xilinx Embedded Development Kit (EDK) design tool has been used. A number of Xilinx provided IPs are customized to realize the hardware modules in the FPGA fabric. To implement the real-time video capture and display functionality for the smart camera system, a Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera and a VGA monitor have been interfaced with the platform. This interfacing uses on-board VGA input video codec and DVI transmitter chips. The control registers of these chips are configured using the embedded PowerPC 440 processor with Inter-Integrated Circuit (IIC) bus controller's low-level device driver functions. The application software, written in C language, runs on top of a standalone software platform and uses the application programmer interface (API) provided by the software platform. The device utilization summary shows that, with the proposed embedded architecture based video acquisition module, the remaining FPGA resources are sufficient for implementing any reasonably complex real-time video processing application.

Abstract:With the huge increase in popularity of high definition applications, the traditional media player can not meet the demand for high-definition media broadcasting nowadays. This paper is focused on the system design of a next-generation progressive high definition media player based on Sigma Designs EM8623L, which adopted an embedded platform architecture and hardware decoding technology that support playback of multiple video and audio file formats. The paper details the implementation of system hardware and software. The practice results have shown that this product has low-cost, low power, portable appearance and powerful advanced high definition playback performance, and confirmed to be satisfactory by the development team and market consumers.
