Abstract:Molecular nuclear medicine including PET and SPECT is one of the most important parts of the molecular imaging.The combinations of molecular unclear medicine with CT,MRI,ultrasound or optical imaging and synthesis of multimodality radiopharmaceuticals are the major trends of the development of nuclear medicine.Molecular nuclear medicine has more and more important value on the monitoring of response to biology involved gene therapy or stem cell therapy and the developments of new drug.

Abstract:Nuclear medicine plays an irreplaceable role in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors. Radiopharmaceuticals are important components of nuclear medicine. Among the radiopharmaceuticals approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), radio-tracers targeting prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) and somatostatin receptor (SSTR) have held essential positions in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancers and neuroendocrine neoplasms, respectively. In recent years, FDA-approved serials of immune-therapy and targeted therapy drugs targeting programmed death 1 (PD-1)/programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), and nectin cell adhesion molecule 4 (Nectin 4). How to screen patients suitable for these treatments and monitor the therapy? Nuclear medicine with specific radiopharmaceuticals can visualize the expression level of those targets in systemic lesions and evaluate the efficacy of treatment. In addition to radiopharmaceuticals, imaging equipment is also a key step for nuclear medicine. Advanced equipment including total-body positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) has been developed, which contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of tumors, as well as the development of new radiopharmaceuticals. Here, we conclude most recently advances of radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine, and they substantially increase the "arsenal" of clinicians for tumor therapy.

Abstract:The development of nuclear medicine relies on the advancement of precise probes at the cellular and molecular levels.Nanoparticle as a new molecular probe,is mainly consists of the targeting groups,imaging groups,the superb biocompatible "shells" and the modify groups.These nanoparticles have the better image contrast by targeting positioning in the target tissues and cells.At the same time,because of the diversity of the materials and the uniqueness of the structures,the nanoparticles can realize multimodal imaging at molecular level,which complement each other's advantages of different imaging modals.If the treatment groups are joined into the nanoparticles,a new nanoparticles are formed-the theranosis nanoparticles,which have realized the diagnosis and therapy at the molecular level synchronously.In addition,the application of intelligent nanoprobes can achieve the smart control of drug release and reduce the side effects of cancer treatment.Anyhow,the development of this new drug delivery system about nanoparticles has brought about a new breakthrough on the nuclear medicine.

Abstract:Radiopharmaceuticals play a critical role in nuclear medicine, providing novel tools for specifically delivering radioisotopes for the diagnosis and treatment of cancers. As the starting point for developing radiopharmaceuticals, cancer-specific biomarkers are important and receive worldwide attention. This field in China is currently experiencing a rapid expansion, with multiple radiotracers targeting novel targets being developed and translated into clinical studies. This review provides a brief overview of the exploration of novel imaging targets, preclinical evaluation of their targeting ligands, and translational research in China from 2020 to 2023, for detecting cancer, guiding targeted therapy, and visualizing the immune microenvironment. We believe that China will play an even more important role in the development of nuclear medicine in the world in the future.

Abstract:The major progresses of nuclear medicine since 1970s are briefly reviewed. This mini-review is mainly focused on the development of [18F]2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ([18F]FDG), which is the most widely applied PET tracer in clinic diagnosis. The investigation of [18F]FDG dated back to 1920s and was finally applied to the clinic after almost half century. [18F]FDG has been of great importance in the diagnosis of tumor, neurodegenerative diseases and cardiovascular diseases ever since. Except from [18F]FDG, the state-of-art development in peptide and protein nuclear medicines is also introduced. Along with the course of the development of nuclear medicine, several scientists who have made a great contribution to nuclear medicine are also introduced and paid at the same time with our sincere respect. With these introductions above, the authors intend to demonstrate the unique characteristic of nuclear medicine based on basic research and oriented to clinic problems. At last, the authors sincerely hope that the readers could be inspired on their own scientific researches after getting an insight into the history of classic nuclear medicines.

Abstract:Recent advancements on interventional molecular imaging aimed to further complement the advantages of two imaging fields, namely, interventional radiology and molecular imaging. Interventional molecular imaging significantly improved the early diag-nosis of cancer, local treatment, and monitoring of tumor treatments. Interventional radiology has continuously extended the capabili-ties of the currently available molecular imaging techniques to (i) obtain deep-seated targets;(ii) thoroughly examine small targets;(iii) precisely guide the delivery of non-targeted imaging tracers or therapeutics;and (iv) selectively enhance the effectiveness of targeted imaging and treatment with high accuracy. Molecular imaging has been used to guide interventional therapies and assess the thera-peutic efficacies of medical interventions. The continuous efforts on interventional molecular imaging extend molecular imaging from benches or small animal laboratories to large animal suites and ultimately to certain clinical applications in humans and enhance the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Abstract:Cancer-targeted radionuclide therapy is a promising approach for the treatment of a wide variety of malignancies, especially those resistant to conventional therapies. However, to improve the use of targeted radionuclide therapy for the management of cancer patients, the in vivo behaviors, dosimetry, and efficacy of radiotherapeutic agents need to be well characterized and monitored. Molecular imaging, which is a powerful tool for the noninvasive characterization and quantification of biological processes in living subjects at the cellular and molecular levels, plays an important role in the guidance of cancer radionuclide therapy. In this review, we introduce the radiotherapeutics for cancer-targeted therapy and summarize the most recent evidence supporting the use of molecular imaging to guide cancer radionuclide therapy.

Abstract:An integrated PET/CT system consists of a positron emission tomography(PET)and a computed tomography(CT)scanner assembled together in the same gantry.It is an imaging modality that combines structure and metabolism.To be cost-effective,PET/CT must be diagnostically accurate and effective in improving management without increasing treatment cost.The acquisition time of PET/CT is shorter than needed for PET along.Moreover,a shorter acquisition time allows a better compliance of the patient,improving patient comfort and reducing possible errors due to movements.The main uses of PET/CT in clinical practice are in oncology, cardiology and neuropsychiatry.With the optimization of the staging procedures and more rapid therapeutic intervention in oncology,PET/CT plays an important rule in the cost-effectiveness.
