Abstract:Dragon-tiger grouper, a grouper hybrid from Epinephelus fuscoguttatus(♀) × Epinephelus lanceolatus(♂) has wide prospects in artificial marine fish aquaculture. The effects of temperature and salinity on the survival rate and food intake of dragon-tiger groupers were investigated. The results showed that dragon-tiger groupers can survive and consume food at 16 – 35 ℃ with the optimum range at25 – 35 ℃. Under sudden temperature changes, dragon-tiger groupers all died at 10 – 15 ℃ in 24 hours. However, at 20 – 35 ℃ the survival rate was 100%. When temperature gradually declines, food intake reduced at 24 ℃ and stopped at 13 ℃. Finally, death occurred at 11 ℃. Dragon-tiger groupers can survive and feed in salinity 1- 55 and the suitable salinity in 4- 45. Under sudden salinity change from 30 to 5, 10,15, 20, 25, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, the survival rate of dragon-tiger groupers was 100%. Under gradual salinity decrease conditions, dragon-tiger groupers significantly reduced its activity and food intake when salinity dropped to 1, and the dragon-tiger groupers began to die in 36 h and all of them died out within 48 h when salinity dropped to 0.
