Abstract:Three 30-m-long transects were selected in Da'an County of Jilin Province to discuss the evolvement of sodic alkaline soil in west of Songnen Plain. Results showed that vegetation in Songnen Plain played a critical importance in soil salinization occurrence and evolvement.Once the vegetation was destroyed, the soil physical structure and chemical properties and the chemical properties of shallow groundwater would have an obvious change, even though within 3~5m distance which the relative altitude was pretty low(2-18cm).When the grass was destroyed, clay in surface layer would transport downward and deposit in sub-layer,which resulted into the deterioration of soil physical structure. At the same time,a large amount of salinity accumulated in surface layer, which would result to the soil evolveing from the saline meadow soil with low salinity content and weak ESP towards the shallow columnar alkaline soil or white crust sodic alkaline soil with comparative high of ESP,and finally evolve into large area of white sodic alkaline soil in the end. This may cause the salinization degree to aggravate gradually in whole region. The irrational development was an important reason for the rapid saline soil evolvement in recent years.Protection of existed vegetation in present day and reconstructing the destroyed vegetation would be important significance for limitation of development of soil salinization in this region.
